Agenda

[edit]

The meetup will be an informal gathering with no formal agenda, but please feel free to add any topics that you'd like to raise for discussion, e.g.:

  • EduWiki Conference in Scotland
  • Datafest Scotland 2014?
  • Other potential future events in Scotland
  • Reaching out beyond Edinburgh/Glasgow
  • Making contact with Scottish GLAM organisations/ GLAM-Wiki collaborations in Scotland

Wiki Loves Monuments UK

[edit]

Since the Wiki Loves Monuments competition is open until 30 September, we have the opportunity for those who are interested to combine our meetup with a Wiki Loves Monuments photo expedition. Bring a camera and take some pictures of buildings and monuments around the venue on the afternoon of the 28th, and upload them before midnight on 30th September using the Wiki Loves Monuments UK upload guidelines. If you're interested, just bring along a camera and we can discuss the very simple rules during the meetup! Our meetup venue, Brew Lab, is close to the Bridges, the University of Edinburgh Old College, the Royal Mile, the Grassmarket, and other historical locations like Drummond Street, Chambers Street, and Infirmary Street, so this will be a perfect opportunity to learn more about the guidelines and rules, and to photograph some of the city's historic sites!

We will have the addresses of some 200 Listed Buildings in the area, along with their official listed numbers and a map of their (approximate) location, in case you aren't sure what you would like to photograph. Bring a friend or two, as well!

Note: if you only wish to join us for the photography expedition, meet in front of Brew Lab at 16:00.

About the meetup

[edit]

This is intended to include any interested Wikimedians who find themselves in Edinburgh or can make their way to Edinburgh on the day. Anyone who has attended previous meetups in Glasgow or Edinburgh encouraged to return to meet new faces! It will be a social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts, where we...

  • Drink coffee and eat lunch.
  • Chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy.

Mainly a casual social event. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians, however this is also an open invitation to anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Feel free to come along and raise these discussions over a coffee.

Location

[edit]

The Brew Lab is a coffee shop just off the South Bridge near the University of Edinburgh's Old College that features free WiFi, coffee, and a selection of food, fresh from a variety of local Edinburgh estabishments. The cafe is about a 15 minute walk from Waverley station or is easily accessible via several Lothian buses departing from Princes St (3, 14, 25, 30, 31, 33, etc). A map is available on the website here.

Spotting us

[edit]

We will most likely be buried in laptops, tablets, smartphones, and any other portable internet-accessible devices there might be. We will also have a ScotWiki tabletop banner so we should be pretty noticeable!
