Request for account closure

Hello, please close my account!

That, what I was allowed to witness live here lately, leaves many exclamation marks. It is a shame how existing corruption in some communities, e.g. in the German one, in order to get rid of other opinions is not sanctioned by the WMF. It is just as bad when CheckUser tools are misused to accuse disagreeable users of supposed mistakes. According to the motto, once we have branded the disagreeable author, it is even easier to get rid of him globally. Such a shameful thing definitely does not deserve my support as an author anymore! Bye bye, Von Savigny (talk) 12:56, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Account "closures" (locks) can only be performed by stewards, but that is usually not done by user request. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)
13:00, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
see [1] and [2][3], we believe these accounts are connected to User:Von Savigny [4]. -- Johannnes89 (talk) 13:03, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Side note: The last (living) edits of this user, excluding this one at enwiki, was in November 2020 when the user was blocked from dewiki for personal attacking, sockpuppetry, edit warring, violating NPOV and some other thing related to discussion. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 14:33, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Failed attempt to get unblocked by German ArbCom: de:Wikipedia:Schiedsgericht/Anfragen/Überprüfung Sperre Benutzer Von Savigny Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 16:26, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
The block at that time was against the rules, and was a reason why Der-Wir-Ing was removed as admin in the German Wikipedia. See here 1. Therefore, you NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh should not blindly believe the logbook entries, but know the context and read thoroughly. Kritiksocke (talk) 21:16, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
I didn't say anything about whether I believe something or not: all I said were facts, or at least something clearly and immediately visible to a non-German speaker like me, that can easily be verified by looking at the logs. Also, that ping didn't work. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 02:01, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
That is precisely not the case. Neither are facts. Thus, I come to the conclusion that you either work very superficially and don't bother to look closely, or perhaps you don't want to do it. In any case, the last "living" edit of Von Savigny was 1. That's where your mistake starts. I had discovered NPOV in the article Vormundschaft at that time, and tried to amend. I have always been a strong supporter of rules and NPOV. And was also active in mediation among users 3 These inaccurate fairy tales about alleged sock puppetry etc. have been deliberately put that way to get rid of me. So when you work so superficially, they reinforce these false fairy tales. So you better stay out of this case. Please don't take it personally. This is about clear abuse of power in the German community, which can even be read in German literature by now, and is not a matter for people who do not want to or cannot look closely. Nevertheless: it does not seem to matter. The WMF has been informed in detail, and does not seem to be particularly interested. Therefore, I will abstain from further cooperation. Responsibility and credibility look different. Have a good day, Kritiksocke (talk) 08:44, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
PS: People are dying unnecessarily in Europe right now. Helping there is more important than continuing to run against "windmills" here, because no one really wants to help the issue. Business as usual, what else...Kritiksocke (talk) 08:44, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
If you don't mind, can you please specify why are you "protecting" Von Savigny, and even talking about yourself discover[ing] NPOV, and that [those] inaccurate fairy tales about alleged sock puppetry etc. have been deliberately put that way to get rid of... you? It can be true that I overlooked an edit, but this sounds like a sign of sockpuppetry, which an user who are requesting for a lock shouldn't be doing in any case. I suspect that there are more sleepers that worth a check. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 08:57, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
What sleepers do you mean? Maybe I will have more time later to answer your questions. I was also very active in fighting vandalism in the German Wikipedia. Such practices go against my principles, but I see that people who are continuously arbitrarily treated can themselves be in danger of violating the existing rules in their resistance. This is a major dilemma. Am in the office now. Kritiksocke (talk) 09:03, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
These are other examples of the German Wikipedia's selective way of excluding disagreeable authors. 1; [2. Maybe they want to express themselves @User:Machwerker, @User:Ghormon. In the first case, this time one has locked without a concrete violation, assuming an alleged personal attack, which otherwise plays no role in the admin practice. In the other case, one has converted a user's subsequent surrender into an infinite ban, so that the user is now marked as a rule-breaker. Such questionable things are no longer questioned at some point, because only certain users know the true circumstances and strangers regularly attach more credibility to the logbook entries. So In this way, the true background can be masked and accounts can be stigmatized for life. Kritiksocke (talk) 12:54, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Machwerker is a sockpuppet of Reiner Stoppok who is obliged by German ArbCom to strictly follow de:WP:Wikiquette and de:WP:Keine Persönliche Angriffe [5]. His sockpuppets repeatedly fail to do so, thus they are getting blocked as well.
You're claiming „selective way of excluding disagreeable authors“ while in reality it's just enforcement of community given rules. -- Johannnes89 (talk) 13:26, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello Johannnes89, thank you for your contribution. I guess that one can also see differently for good reasons. In my opinion, the facts of the personal attack was not yet sufficiently fulfilled. Moreover, once again the designation as" lock evasion" = dt. Sperrumgehung was sufficient to enforce an infinite lock. I see that very critically. What do we really punish? Real rule violations or only the appearance that someone has once fallen "through the system". Greetings Kritiksocke (talk) 13:38, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Just a couple of weeks ago you requested the removal of all articles written by sockpuppets of Reiner Stoppok from the article namespace [6] and now you're suddenly claiming he is not violating deWP-rules? I recommend reading Do not disrupt projects to make a point. -- Johannnes89 (talk) 13:51, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
At that time I still had confidence in the system of the German Wikipedia and had not been blocked infinit clearly against the rules. That opened my eyes, and yes, now I think that the blocking of Rainer Stoppok was too hasty. Kritiksocke (talk) 21:38, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
User:Kritiksocke is a sock of Savigny and many others. See de:Wikipedia:Checkuser/Anfragen/Jaguarwald#Entscheid_und_Ergebnisse. Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 12:56, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Which many? The vast majority of accounts have been voluntarily abandoned, and have been subsequently marked to alleged socks to claim an alleged sock game. This could be called falsification of evidence, I call it the systematic stigmatization of former Wikipedians who have fallen out of favor with a group of users and admins who unfortunately too often behave arbitrarily. Kritiksocke (talk) 13:06, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@DerHexer:Can you please help me out, and close the last two accounts globally? I am tired about this project and do not want to discuss further. Thank you very much. Kritiksocke (talk) 21:45, 3 March 2022 (UTC) PS: I have completely deleted the access data to Von Savigny.

A discussion that gets out of proportion is of no use to anyone. Therefore I close my request again. On Meta at least, it does not matter whether the account is there or not. Kritiksocke (talk) 14:01, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Not done Local administrators cannot close accounts, so this request is at the wrong page whichever the global request may be, whether it is within stewards scope or not. Sorry for interruption, if permitted, I'd like to make a request here for inspecting whether the link above is a misuse of talkpage. In his talk page, he attacked WMF T&S group violently, providing some evidence that cannot be confirmed.

Is this a kind of misuse? If yes, could sysop help us to delete them?Pavlov2 03:05, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Help about QD of a userpage

Hello, i´m wanted to nominate to speedy deletion of the userpage Nat Salazar for spam (G8) but i got this error

Warning: At Meta it is not usual for a user to edit someone else's user page. A user's main user page would generally only be edited by the user. Please consult with the user on their talk page for edits you are suggesting. If this is your user page, then you may need to login to edit. If this user page is an alternate or a shared account, then you will need to log in to the respective user account to edit. (Noting that many Wikipedias do not allow editing from shared or organisational accounts.) If you have received this message in error, or you have a serious concern about the content of a user page, please let us know.

If the page in question is spam, or similarly problematic, please use the corresponding talk page and mark with either (edit protected template) or (delete template), and your comment. Thank you.

The page is clearly spam, but i cannot save edit because this reason, how is the correct process to nominate to speedy deletion userpages? thank you --Emolga826 (talk) 14:59, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

Page protect for landing page

Hi, Celebrate Women will be the Gender Gap's initiative landing page in a CN banner campaign this month: could we get semi-protection for the page, also from the experience of last year? Thanks! Ciell (talk) 07:44, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

@Ciell Done. Semi-ed for 1 month, hope this helps. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:07, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Ciell (talk) 08:08, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: I disabled the CN banner for anons yesterday because of the massive amount of toxic comments it drew: it seems even worse than what we've experienced with last years IWD campaign. I have been made aware of the disruptive edits in different translated versions of the landing page. Would it be possible to set the semi-protection level to cascade or in some other way include these translated pages? Ciell (talk) 07:47, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Cascading can be an issue, depending on the text in the pages and any templates. So Ciell you may wish to look to see what may be the consequences prior to this being undertaken.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:56, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
We could look to do some abusefilter preventions, and we can still be a little clever and do it based on language if needed.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:04, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Yes, I am absolutely aware of the heavy option that cascading the protection would be, and am very open to other options. I (we) would really like to attract the attention of new editors for the Gender Gap, but not to the expense of... all this. Ciell (talk) 10:09, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
If you are looking for specific language to filter, we may have unintentionally collected some examples here (page history) for you while the banner for anonymous users was live. Ciell (talk) 10:11, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the help on the talkpage @Billinghurst. Would abuse filters be an option you think? I would love to turn the banner on tomorrow or Tuesday, but would together with the Meta admins like to keep the amount of attacks that come from this manageable and would appreciate your thoughts in this. markAdmins gadget - switching to json file

I hope this isn't controversial, but figured I should post first just in case. Any objections to replacing MediaWiki:Gadget-markAdmins-data.js with a JSON file for the data? We probably want to be able to keep the comments, so I'll add some kind of hack for that (like ignoring any keys that start with `:`). Bot task request

Hi, I believe that a particular task on Meta can be better done by bots. Because I lack the knowledge of building bots myself, I need to request it somewhere else. But where exactly? I can't find a way. (It already took me 20 minutes to navigate my way to here, after failing to find what I was searching for orginally. IMHO, meta is very much disorganised compared to en/bn/hi/sa-wikipedias. And some serious efforts to resolve it will be very appreciated.) Import a page to test a bug

Dear admins,

In order to try to reproduce T303668 bug, I need help from a user with Import right to import a random page (e.g. Wikipedia:Test Wikipedia which is small). The page can be imported to a subpage of my user page, to avoid any noise.

I know Meta-Wiki is not a testing space, but this bug seems too particular to be tested on a test-wiki. -- Pols12 (talk) 22:44, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

@Base Could you look into this (if possible, sorry if you aren't available) as you commented in phab. I think can be done here but is there a chance that we can do on other testing wikis? Thanks. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:25, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Page rename request across multiple projects

Hi, I wished to request to rename the items at d:Q5883902 (Wikimedia:Nospam) to a more descriptive title "Cascade protected title blacklist". Nospam only appears to be a shortcut to "No spamming policy" as in en WP. Username142857

Username142857 (talk · contribs)

Could someone look at the editing of this account please? It's obvious from their contributions that they lack the maturity and competence to edit here productively at this time. Their editing here shows a repeat of the exact same issues that lead to a block on the English Wikipedia. To summarise, a lot of time is being spent by editors cleaning up after and responding to this editor, who clearly does not understand what meta or the WMF are for or how to have a productive conversation. They have tried to get involved in proposing new projects, and are currently W:WP:BLUDGEONing discussions with irrelevant comments that do not address the issues people are bringing up.

See for example WikiPoetry. They resurrected a proposal that had been rejected 9 months ago then proceeded to spam the discussion with 6 "strong support" votes [7], some placed out of order (e.g. putting their vote at the top of the list and in the header after the rejection). Their votes do not demonstrate any understanding of why people opposed the proposal and do not address any of the concerns raised, they are disruptive. An admin reverted their edits as inappropriate messing around with a rejected proposal [8] which they in turn reinstated [9].

For another example of bludgeoning look at Talk:WikiStories, where they have !voted "strong support" 5 times, and called another editor "dyslexic" for opposing a proposal they created.

Over at WikiStories this user demonstrates that they don't understand what the scope or purpose of meta is, stating that their project proposal should result in the WMF should changing it's entire charitable purpose so that their proposed fanfiction hosting service would fit in [10].

In some cases they do not actually seem to even be reading the proposals that they are voting to support. Here [11] they vote to support Wikihavior, a proposed project about tracking the behaviour of things over time, with a vote claiming it would help people with "behavioral disabilities", despite that having 0 relevance to what was proposed.

Here [12] they "Strongly oppose" a proposal with a comment that is completely incomprehensible nonsense.

Here [13] they revert an edit to reinsert a piece of vandalism for unexplained reasons.

Here [14] they make an utterly ridiculous suggestion that we create one enormous sandbox page where each user would get a section that they can keep stuff in forever. This obviously isn't possible or a good idea for numerous reasons (ending up with the history for multiple pages mixed together, the 2MB hard cap on page size, the fact the page would need thousands of sections and would be impossible to navigate) but they went ahead and created Permanent Sandbox anyway. This was userfied to make it into a user sandbox, which they then requested deletion of because it "Wasn't fair that no-one else got one"???? [15]

Here [16] They re-order a talk page to put their nonsense comment on top for some reason, even though this was discussed and the page deleted two weeks ago.

Here [17] they decide to edit an archived, withdrawn project proposal to leave a completely useless comment that doesn't add anything to the discussion. Here [18] they add another stupid comment in an inappropriate place to an ancient discussion.

Hopefully this is enough to show the recurring problem. This is an account who's edit seem to be mostly focused on screwing around and making messes, and their approach to editing here is best described as "bull in a china shop". The incessant pestering of people who disagree with them, nonsensical and useless comments and their need to always have the newest reply and top vote suggest to me that they fundamentally lack the maturity to edit here productively at this time. 192.76.8.70 23:41, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Deletion reason box

This is probably not exactly the right place to post this, but it concerns sysops: Here on Meta, when deleting a page, the box for the reason is always empty, not prefilled with "content was ..." like on other wikis. Some other wikis have a gadget you can switch on to get this functionality, but how can I switch it off? I also wonder if it makes sense to have it this way for all admins - isn't it better to have the prefilled reason, which you can adjust or change if necessary? I don't always want to use the super-generic dropdown reasons when it's sufficient to show e.g. that "content was: {{delete|created by mistake}}". --MF-W 01:11, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

@MF-Warburg: This is probably due to MediaWiki:Excontent and MediaWiki:Excontentauthor being (nearly) blanked which force MediaWiki to automatically omit the delete reason. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 02:40, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I see, thanks. I would think it's beneficial to restore these to their default content, then. --MF-W 17:37, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
The author is now inactive and edit comment (“not redundant”) looks unclear. Deleting these messages seems good. -- Pols12 (talk) 15:47, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Actually, in our {{delete}} template, there is a link in the bottommost line delete this page, that link will prefill the delete reason given in the CSD template onto the delete interface. @MF-Warburg.
@Pols12 I will think the blanking works as at times prefilling will not be good as for some attack pages etc, we need to manually remove the prefill which will take time and should we not remember, then we have to do RD on the deletion logs. A lesser worry is copyvios on the deletion logs. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:13, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Report concerning User:Victor Trevor

Hello dear meta administrators, I'm a sysop on tr:wiki. User:Victor Trevor was banned in Turkish Wikipedia because the CU confirmed that he is the meetpuppet of User:II. Niveles. He sends lots of spam messages to the tr:wiki administrators by using Meta talk pages. I think that this is inappropriate.

Examples:

I request you to do what is needed. Thanks in advance. 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿 15:24, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

  • These are about my block on the Turkish Wikipedia - If necessary, I can translate them. Specifically, the second example is about my thoughts on an administrator who have rage-quit at the Turkish Wikipedia temporarily. Apparently, the same request is current discussing at the Turkish Wikipedia, and they claimed that I "harassed" that editor because of I made a comment, with sabotage, on Vikipolimer's global rights requests (1, 2). --Victor Trevor (talk) 16:47, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
  • According to this policy Victor Trevor needs to be banned. Kind regards.--Kadı Message 17:20, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
That is a policy of enwiki and therefore doesn't apply here on Meta. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 17:38, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh, I know but he is spamming and trolling users here as Vikipolimer stated. Kadı Message 17:43, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
My 2 cents: Thus far the diffs have shown they approached 3 different sysops on meta for their trwp blocks. While meta isn't an appeal court, we typically allow user to query one other sysop other than the blocking one here on meta. So this is 1 too many. However, I did not see any clear warnings to stop doing this, so is really hard for us to block in this area. This is borderline and I will defer but let me warn @Victor Trevor that meta isn't a place for appealing and please please keep local issues local. The only rare circumstances that meta can be of help is a large range, extensive systemic abuse of admin rights which cannot be dealt with locally, and that you need to start a RFC but thus far I don't see your issue meeting this. As they seems to not like it, I will recommend to stop doing these as it will go no where. As of the issues of global rights requests, I see it still acceptable. Anyway do remember SRGP isn't vote, so a mere oppose won't hurt and trust the stewards. @Vikipolimer. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:20, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the statement, @Camouflaged Mirage. I've get the point. A little correction: not 3, 2. --Victor Trevor (talk) 09:20, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
  • Butting in here to ask if those unhappy with Victor Trevor's pings could not turn off notifications? As an ENWIKI admin, I know how annoying it can be to feel harassed via Meta. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 11:21, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out, @Deepfriedokra. Victor is a user who systematically follows and harasses certain users. In addition, he avoids detection by resorting to various language games. Examples: [22] [23](He comes and comments on the TRWikivoyage project, which he hasn't been in for months, when I'm an administrator candidate. His comment is in a way that puts the other person in trouble. He talks about the 6-month block which is given in another project, the main purpose is to provoke. Victor Trevor's behavior is against the policy and he should be banned. Our main goal is to create an online encyclopedia, not provoke people. Best regards, Kadı Message 15:11, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
@Kadı I think this is the wrong forum for all these. Meta sysops can only block an user who is misbehaving on meta-wiki (this wiki). We cannot ban anyone. Only WMF can under Office Actions as well as community, where you will need to file an RFC to show they meet the Global Ban criterion (specifically the community part). The RFC will then be closed by a steward if there is a consensus to ban them after 1 month or so. All the diffs you had given is on various wikis but not meta wiki, hence, I don't see anything can be done here on a meta sysop level. Best, Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:33, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Patroller right

I would like to volunteer as a patroller here on Meta, since I have recently become and intend to be active on Meta. I also revert vandalism and look out at RecentChanges frequently to quickly remove vandal edits. Further, I am a patroller and rollbacker on English Wiktionary, with quite some experience in that field; my rollbacks can be seen there here. For these reasons, it would certainly be helpful for me to be able to quickly rollback bad edits and mark the good ones as patrolled. --Svartava (talk) 15:20, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, i am Shakil, COMMUNICATION MANAGER, Wiki Loves Women South Asia 2021. I have needed MMS rights for sending some messages to our organizar and Competitors. Thanks --MdsShakil (talk) 14:05, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

Please delete some revision, user name, log, title and edit summary

[24],[25](+edit summary),[26],[27],[28](+edit summary),[29],[30](+edit summary),[31](+User name), [32](+User name),[33](first log user name,edit title and summary),PA and DE.--MCC214#ex umbra in solem 08:25, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@MCC214: these all seem to be rather "routine" vandalism entries, with blocks and protections already applied; for the most part revdels - especially log redaction is only needed for grossly improper content, and is not permitted for ordinary matters. With that in mind, are you still seeing anything that is so offending that removal is still warranted? — xaosflux Talk 14:11, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Big work for a stewards

Hello. I'm sorry to bother you, but the question is very important. I am writing to you as one of the administrators of the Belarusian section. This month, the second person in Belarus was charged under criminal articles because of his activity on Wikipedia (articles about Belarusian politics and Russia's invasion of Ukraine). Now the editors are afraid that they have been put on the waiting list by our "law enforcement officers". I wanted to consult with you, is it possible to hide the edit history of a large number of articles at once (for example, all inclusions in a certain category)? or the entire contribution of some author?

When wiki editors were detained in our country in August 2020, the Wikimedia Foundation said that we would help if the detentions were not for political activity, but directly for editing Wikipedia. This moment has come and the administrators of our section feel responsible for our editors. Is it possible to help somehow?--Хомелка (talk) 11:39, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

@Хомелка: I would normally say this page is not the correct venue to discuss this, but here's a short answer from my personal perspective and knowledge: Technically yes, but practically no, due to our licensing policy, which require attribution, and some other problems. You may also contact WMF Legal Team at legal@wikimedia.org. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 11:47, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Note that legal matters are out of scope for stewards. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 11:49, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
This is certainly not something the meta admins can do much about, are you referring only to edits on a project (e.g. bewiki) or all edits to all projects sources from people in certain countries? — xaosflux Talk 13:40, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
We are talking about edits from Belarus. People who are already abroad are usually safe unless their name is Roman Protasevich or Sofya Sapieha, and if they don't like flying, of course.@ Хомелка (talk) 16:42, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Looking at the title, maybe this should be moved to SN. ~~~~

Template:Votings-global

Can an admin replace this template's content with {{#invoke:Votings-global|main}}? Hopefully it will resolve the need of manually editing {{Votings-global}} once and for all. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 20:27, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Not done @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh it doesn't seem to be working correctly; notably it is "counting" requests that are not active, when only active requests are needed to be shown. — xaosflux Talk 22:47, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
