Talk to me!
[edit]Need some info about global user page
[edit]I am a new Wikipedia user, active on the English, Italian, and Spanish language projects. I am writing to you as a CheckUser, with the hope that you can help me with a technical issue I've encountered. I tried to create my global user page, but the action was blocked with the following message:
This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Global "ntsamr"-pattern spambot filter
I have been unable to find any information explaining the cause of this block. Not sure if this is due to a lack of necessary user rights for global account creation, an error in my formatting or template usage, or another issue entirely. I would be grateful if you could provide with help or direct me to the appropriate resources for resolving the issue.
Thank you in advance and happy holidays Bit-Pasta (talk) 22:35, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Bit-Pasta try again. This was mostly related to some phrases you used, which are similar to some phrases that an automated spam program is using. — xaosflux Talk 23:23, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- I see. I used some help to improve the text, will try to make it more personal. Thank you. Bit-Pasta (talk) 08:13, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Unblock/excemption
[edit]Hello!
My IP has been blocked globally due to "Open proxy". I filed an Appeal and got the response that some Proxy services are reported on my IP, but I didn't used any VPN or Proxy to make my edits. There must be some kind of the mistake but could You unblock my IP or at least give an excemption, please?
Thanks in advance! ThunderGit (talk) 16:49, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- The network address you are connecting to appears to be carrying disruptive traffic for a VPN and 2 proxy services. Contact your network administrator for assistance on how to remedy this. You may also ask the administrators on your home project to locally exempt you if they would like to. — xaosflux Talk 17:29, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the answer about my request to be unblocked from IP address 88.213.217.133. Should I understand that there is no any chance to be unblocked, I mean, I am editor in Wikipedia, 10 from which from 88.213.217.133 and I really do not understand what happened that this IP was blocked. Станислав Николаев (talk) 06:38, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
- That you are able to edit my user talk page here shows that you are not blocked. Regarding 88.213.217.133, that address has multiple proxy services running on it disruptively. Contact your network administrator for them to assist in securing their network. See No open proxies for more on this topic. — xaosflux Talk 10:03, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

[edit]why did you block me from wikipedia? what did i do wrong Alexiluki (talk) 07:26, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Your account is not blocked. If you have a block message, please read it carefully - it may have information about how to stop being blocked, or where to contact support. — xaosflux Talk 09:44, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
Hi. This IP possesses an impressive harvest of local blocks:
- enwiki: 2 years
- simplewiki: 3 years
- svwiki: 3 years
- ruwiki: 5 years
- ukwiki: 6 months
- elwiki: 6 months in 2024
Very strange to find out the only one 3-month global block in 2023. Block it for several years, please. (I'm unable to write on SRG due to a semi-protection.) — 2A00:1370:8186:2EDD:A863:1F0A:6F9D:22C3 23:23, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- You can file an edit request if you really want. But also, unless there is current disruption, we likely won't add any more blocks. — xaosflux Talk 00:34, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

A Question
[edit]Hi xaosflux, I noticed that you mentioned "repeated requests can be considered as disruption and be met with a block" when declining my request for global IPBE.
I would like to apologize for the repeated requests and will spend time editing on enwiki to gain experience, but my question still lies: When would I be considered "sufficiently established"? as this flag can bring a lot of convenience to me.
regards, Least Action (talk) 14:19, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- There is not a brightline rule, in general someone making ~500 constructive contributions over a few months on their home content project are considered. Note also, exceptions also require a showing of actual need. — xaosflux Talk 14:41, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- It seems that the VPN I'm using is also affected by local blocks on Meta. Maybe I need a Meta IPBE flag. Least Action (talk) 14:29, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- I suggest you go work on your content project. — xaosflux Talk 14:55, 20 March 2025 (UTC)

Mandailing project technical assistance
[edit]hello i need help with adding categories to btm.wikipedia.org and btm.wiktionary.org projects
The system of adding categories by simply clicking the "+" symbol is no longer active since these two projects hatched from the incubator please help.
We have also checked the hotcat 'Beta' settings and we also didn't find it.IHLubis (talk) 04:19, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- The standard way to add a category to a a page is:
- Edit the page
- Put the wikimarkup for a category in to the page text, e.g. add
[[Kategori:Provinsi i Indonesia]]
- Publish the revision
- Using the visual editor is it:
- Edit the page
- Click the 3-lines button
- Click Categories
- Use the popup
- Is that not working? If you having problems with external scripts or tools, you will want to ask the tool or script author. — xaosflux Talk 08:43, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux Sorry for interrupting, he's simply wants to enable Hotcat gadget in both btm.wikipedia.org and btm.wiktionary.org projects, can you tell him the procedure to activate it? Thanks. Veracious (talk) 23:22, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Here are the directions for installing hotcat on a project: commons:Help:Gadget-HotCat#Installing HotCat on another wiki. Notably, someone will first need to spend the time to localize/translate the parameters. After all this has been localized, advertise/discuss with your community, then you may ask a global sysop to copy to the interface at Global sysops/Requests. — xaosflux Talk 23:45, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
