Wikimedia CEE Meeting in Belgrade

[edit]
Basics
  • in a nutshell: Wikimedia Österreich works closely together with communities in the Central and Eastern European region, the annual regional conference is an important platform to intensify this collaboration. This year we provided input around Wikidata, technical tools, diversity and inclusion in affiliates as well as the Movement Strategy process to the program. We also forged new alliances and projects such as a joint WikiGap Event with the Slovak community in 2020. As every year, joint projects such as CEE Spring, which are supported by WMAT as a fiscal sponsor, were evaluated and refined for the next edition. WMAT also sponsored a very active Wikimedian from the CEE region who is visually impaired and does a lot of work to reduce barriers on the projects for people like them. Due to his presence this important equity topic was also part of the the conference and discussions.
  • what we contributed to this activity: Sending a staff member and supporting three volunteers (two from Austria and one from the CEE region without direct access to movement resources) with travel grants.
