Wikimédiens du Burkina User Group (Wikimedians of Burkina User Group) is a local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. Its mission is to promote the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia projects in Burkina Faso, and it aims to encourage people to gather, organise, and share knowledge about Burkina Faso’s culture and history, in a way that informs and educates and that keeps the knowledge free.

Objectives

  • To promote the Wikimedia Foundation in Burkina Faso
  • To raise awareness on the need to share knowledge
  • To teach young people how to create local content
  • To raise awareness among the Burkinabe community on opportunities provided by the Wikimedia Movement such as trainings, projects and conferences
  • Set up a team of contributors-developers to develop gadgets and solutions around Wikimedia projects
  • To make Wikipedia and its brother projects known and taught in Burkinabé schools and universities.
  • Organize events where volunteers will add content such as, WikiGap, Art+Feminism, WikiLoves Women, WikiLoveEarth, PhotoWalks, etc.
  • Collaborate with museums, libraries, and other public or private institutions to promote Burkina Faso's rich cultural and historical heritage on Wikimedia projects

Goals

  • To build a willing and vibrant community that gathers and shares free knowledge through Wikimedia projects
  • To build a willing and vibrant community that shares local images on Wikimedia Commons
  • To promote Wikimedia projects and free content in general, and to encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in (primary, secondary and higher) education
  • To organise conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops and other events
