Art+Feminism: Feb 15 online edit-a-thon campaign launch and upcoming conversations
[edit]We have some exciting events coming up that we’d love to share with you!
At Art+Feminism, we believe that as feminist editors, our strength is in collective action. When we edit together, we share resources, knowledge, and skills; in doing so, we form a defense against harassment within the Wikiverse and beyond. Alongside our initiatives to close diversity gaps and create a safer Wikipedia, Art+Feminism remains committed to doing our part. This year that includes creating more virtual spaces for us to connect with one another, share knowledge, and edit together.
To start, join Art+Feminism and Wiki Editoras Lx on 15 February to discuss and practice strategies for collective editing. This event kicks off our series of virtual editing tables for our Year 11 campaign. You can see our full schedule here and register today.
We’ll also be hosting two special conversations: Online & On the Ground: Abortion Activism in Maryland and Collective Imagination + Radical Futures: Kansas City Organizers on Making Art & Building Power. These online events are open to all and we hope to see you there!
If you’d like to join the campaign by hosting your own A+F event but haven’t yet, it’s not too late! You can view our campaign resources here and send us an email to let us know you’re joining.

Please be aware that there is a word limit of 1000 words for all your answers in total. You used so far 1111 words according to my counting tool in Libre Office Writer.
The word limit exists to limit the effort for our translators who will translate your text into several languages so that people who do not understant English can vote for you. Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 10:28, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Der-Wir-Ing. I've trimmed 136 words, so it should be okay now. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:48, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
Optional question for Board Election candidacy
[edit]A mistake in the candidate application was brought to the attention of the Election Committee, accidentally duplicating an optional question and omitting an additional optional question. The Election Committee decided that candidates may still answer the additional question, and will waive the word count limit in the case of answering this additional question. You may fill out your answer on your candidacy page. The deadline to answer the optional question is 23:59 UTC on 2 June. Please let me know if you have any questions. Lady Baltimore
[edit]Sad to report, an article you helped me with a long time ago has had a sad ending. Lady Baltimore (eagle). She was euthanized last February, and her death is just now being reported. Incidentally, a photo I took of here roughly 9 years ago and placed in her Wikipedia article has been used, with photo credit, on the article regarding her deathMichaelh2001 (talk) 05:35, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Sunday June 23 Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting (WMF BoT statement on Movement Charter ratification)
[edit]Hello everyone!
The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a developing forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas about current developments in the Wikimedia Movement. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for further Wikimedia 2030 strategy process work.
At this meeting we will focus on the recent statement by the WMF Board of Trustees liaisons statement on the Movement Charter in which the liaisons stated that they will be recommending the Board of Trustees not to ratify the final draft of the Movement Charter. The community and affiliate votes on the ratification are supposed to start on Tuesday, 25 June. This meeting offers a venue to discuss the situation and formulate the "next steps".
This month, we are meeting on Sunday, June 23, and you are all invited to RSVP here.

Table of Saami women
[edit]Heya! I've created a table here on Meta of Saami women for the August meetup. Looks like there's lots of articles that could also be translated as part of the translation meetup. If you don't mind letting people on WiR know it exists, I'd appreciate it.
I'll also try to get around to cleaning up my red list over on enwp at some point in time, but I'll move it into various tables here on Meta since I won't be editing enwp for the foreseeable future. I'll drop you a line when I eventually get the rest done. - Yupik (talk) 17:58, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Yupik, done! See en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Ideas#Aug 2024. Miss you on enwp. Drop me a link anytime; always happy to hear from you. Will you be at Wikimania this year? --Rosiestep (talk) 21:26, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! I think it will be a long time before I do anything on enwp again, unfortunately. I'm tired of having to deal with the erasure of indigenous peoples there such as [1][2][3]. They're not allowed to even be indigenous in death, since adding it to recent deaths gets it wiped off the page in seconds. It sounds harsh, but imo these actions are just another form of this, just in digital format this time. I'm still undecided about Wikimania, but it would be great to see you again! Can't believe it's been so long! - Yupik (talk) 23:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

Saami women, pt. 2
[edit]Tiõrv! As promised, here's the second table of Saami women for the August meet-up.
OT: I won't be making Wikimania this year, since I couldn't fit it in my schedule in August. But hopefully next year August will be less packed! :) - Yupik (talk) 11:23, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- There's also this small one for this year's Skábmagovat, the Saami film festival. Most of the articles that could be created on enwp don't even exist yet on Wikidata. And I've been collecting the tables into its own category Category:Women_in_Red here on Meta. - Yupik (talk) 11:27, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Yupik:, okay, I think I have added all of them here: en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/314. Please let me know if some redlist is missing. BTW, I was unaware of that Women in Red category on Meta; nice! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:57, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Wonderful, thank you! I've also added the category to Wikidata item for Women in Red, so it should be easier to discover now :) - Yupik (talk) 17:10, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to coordination call for advisors - WikiWomen Task Force
[edit]Hello! I'm reaching out following your interest in serving as an advisor for the WikiWomen Task Force Collective. I'd like to set up time to bring all of the advisors together to discuss next steps. Please send me an email at mmulaudzi[at]wikimedia.org (if we haven't been in touch by email already), and I will email you regarding times to meet. MMulaudzi-WMF (talk) 11:15, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
English Wikisource concerns
[edit]Dear Rosie, I'm contacting you as one of the WMF's community trustees in the hopes that you might be able to help resolve concerns the English Wikisource community have about technical issues that would be caused by the planned deployment of the Vector 2022 skin there next week. This is one of the last Wikis not using the new skin, because of unfixed bugs that were raised months ago and are still not addressed.
I've posted the details to the Wikimedia Foundation Board noticeboard, and understand that the WMF's web team are likely to have many other priorities at the moment, but hope that there's a way to ensure that the Wikisource community's voice is not ignored, and ideally some guarantees that the web team can be given the resources they need to be able to fix the technical issues the community has raised, before Vector 2022 is deployed.
Sorry if this is not the right way to go about this, and any help or advice you and the other community trustees can give would be much appreciated! Many thanks! --YodinT 23:37, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Yodin. As you're addressing an operational issue and Trustees deal with strategic issues, I'm not sure who the right person would be to address this. That said, you may want to reach out to Laurentius, the chair of the WMF Board's Product & Tech Committee, as he may have some awareness (or thoughts) on the subject. Wishing you (and English Wikisource) well! --Rosiestep (talk) 23:49, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! --YodinT 23:53, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
