[edit]Article about the well-known Romanian region of Transylvania. Detailed with a lot of history.
- Guys, guys, guys...I'm a bit worried that this massive article, already translated in 26 languages, got to be nominated as translation of the week - haven't we strayed a little from its original ideals? (ps nothing against the article itself) User:Pippu d'Angelo
- The cause of this problem, is the long time of this article as candidate (took 10 1/2 months its election); in January 14 when was proposed, only had 13 languages (see here [1]).--Taichi - (あ!) 08:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

Puzzlet Chung 04:18, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC) - A must-have.- Wait. Is that identical to Ctenolepisma longicaudata, which is also called "silverfish"? If the species is too obscure to have an exclusive common name, we must have scientific name as the page name, to avoid ambiguity amongst similar spieces which will cause interwiki jam. And scientific name won't be my favor. --Puzzlet Chung 16:02, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- No, they are different animals. Common name means nothing in biology, the only way to avoid confusion is scientific name. In german wikipedia this subject has this title. I proposed the subject, not the title. You can insert the translation in your wikipedia with the title you prefer (or the name your wiki community chose). Ares.it 15:47, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Then I will suspend my vote because the subject is too obscure as the title is going be. --Puzzlet Chung 14:00, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

- There seems to be a stark contrast between this article and the Easter Island article on the age of the statues (compare 1000 years ago with 4-300 years ago - also view the talk page). IMO it would be better to have that issue resolved or the different theories better explained before everyone starts translating it. But the photos are extremely nice :-) --213.220.103.23 20:16, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

- I think it should be part of the article en:Danube, in the german (for example) you´ll find it at de:Donau#Biosphärenreservat_Donaudelta. -- Necrophorus 14:51, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- There's always been this issue going on about whether we want less articles but which cover more information, or whether we want to have smaller, more specific articles. Personally, I favour smaller more specific articles which are linked from a "main" article such as Danube. Therefore, especially judging its importance, I think there should be a separate article on Danube Delta. They do the same things with countries - there are separate articles for Economy of xx, Demographics of xx, etc. Ronline 12:35, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I agree with you that there should be an article of its own if the space of the specific topic will arrive a critical length, so it should be an article of de:Biosphärenreservat_Donaudelta but not in that short form this article is now. It´s common sense in the german Wikipedia that only part will be separated if they will burst the article, the Danube Delta doesn´t until now. -- Necrophorus 07:30, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

- Ausir 14:10, 21 May 2005 (UTC) Some Wikipedias don't even have a Danube article.
- What sort of a reason is that? If they don't have a Danube article, then let them make one. The Romanian Wikipedia has an article on Etoumbi but not on the Republic of Congo. So what? Does that mean we shouldn't have the article on Etoumbi? Ronline 02:59, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
- Once the article is created, some wikipedias could decide that it would be better moved or merged into Danube river article. --Puzzlet Chung 01:55, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Article about the "Father of Esperanto poetry" Mr. Grabowski, a man of an interesting and somewhat tragical fate, who was also the first man to conversate in Esperanto with Zamenhof after publishing the first manual on the language. Present language versions are: cs:Antoni Grabowski, de:Antoni Grabowski, eo:Antoni GRABOWSKI, fr:Antoni Grabowski, ru:Грабовский, Антоний (the French and Russian versions seem to be the best for today). Links to some realities of the Esperanto-speaking community and to the WWI, Poland, Germany, Warsaw, etc. - Slavik IVANOV 11:47, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Meanwhile also a German article about Antoni Grabowski has been added: "...war ein ... früher Esperanto-Aktivist, der vor allem durch seine Übersetzungen einen bedeutsamen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung des Esperantos zur Literatursprache nahm." Mo 11:02, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- --pippudoz 03:47, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC) - is there a father (or mother) of Klingon poetry? Elvish perhaps?
- Your comment is not a real opposition, but just a comment. ;) Elvish and Klingon poetry is ridiculously small, while Esperanto literature is large enough to have its explorers and to publish multivolume collections. Your ignorance is a "pro" to translate this article: for evidently people know little about Esperanto and its use. - Чидэр дын
- It is true - I am ignorant. But just when you had nearly convinced me to change my mind, I rechecked and decided that it was too long. I am a fan of short pithy articles that I can wrap my little brain around - as soon as I have to scroll off the screen - you've lost me! - No, his 'ignorance' is an opposition. I am voting against this article for a few reasons. Number one, the votes seem to be stacked - so far only eo.wikipedians have voted for it. Not that there is a specific rule against this, but it irritates me and I do not like it - this is supposed to be international and interwiki, not pseudo-international (that is, Eastern Europe, South America, and China.) Second of all, I agree that it is too long. Third of all, I am all the more suspicious and despise this all the more due to the belittling comments made to the opposition of Pippu. An opposing vote is an opposing vote. When you twist it like you have here, it makes me very sick. --Node ue 20:49, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I haven't seen something more international than the Esperanto-wikipedia. I don't see, why you oppose the fact that eo-wikipedicians voted here: most of those people are active editors at their native wikipedias: e. g. me at the Russian and Ossetic ones, Gangleri at the Romanian, etc. As for the length of the article: where have you read that Translation of the Week is for dirty stubs only?! - Slavik IVANOV
- That's actually not true - I think en: and fr: are both more international in the eo.wikipedia consists mostly of Eastern Europeans, native speakers of English, Chinese people, and South Americans. I don't oppose the fact that eo.wikipedians voted here. I oppose the fact that the only people who voted here besides Pippu and myself are eo.wikipedians. You also entered this as a candidate near the end of the week, to give people very little time to vote, and it's my guess that you made a post about it to the eo.wikipedia village pump. This is called "rigging" or "unfair advantage". As for the length of the article: Stubs are not good. But neither are long articles. Something in the middle is best.--Node ue 04:55, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- 1. Am I right to understand that you voted not against the article but against the manner of its putting to vote? Do you think it's logical? You'd better propose new rules that'd be all justice from your POV. 2. I do insist that eo.wiki is more international that en.wiki: eo does not have a prevailing majority or "native speakers", while en.wiki has both. 3. You are absolutely not right about "people who voted here besides Pippu and myself are eo.wikipedians" — most of them are really E-speakers (and thus they know something about Grabowski), but most of them are more active in their native languages (ajvol in ru.wiki, ZmiLa in by.wiki, etc.) and are just using Esperanto from time to time in eo.wiki. 4. Again, do not accuse, but propose newer rules, if you don't like the use of the actual ones. — Respectfully yours, Slavik IVANOV.

- I was just reading this discussion. Amasing. Regarding the "Translation of the week" I want to let you know about some improuvments in "communication channels".
- lots of Village pumps have been linked now
- please help "keeping the channels open" by updating "meta:Wikimedia projects"; for all the languages there a shortcut with the language code is available; example: "meta:Wikimedia projects#nn" for nn: etc.; please update informations if required
- de:Benutzer:Aka has created a great tool to identify articles (or their redirects) which "maight" be linked if the content matchs to the content from articles with the same name in other languages (using latin alphabet); examples: GlobalWPSearch Antoni Grabowski; normaly I use examples as GlobalWPSearch Albert_Einstein, GlobalWPSearch Mahatma_Gandhi, GlobalWPSearch Alfred_Nobel
Comments

- --Dmitry Gerasimov - estimations for the number of speakers are rather disputable and apparently contradict the data I get from modern academic literature and consultations from linguists who worked in the region. We'd better choose a more reliable article.
- If you are talking about the Ethnologue, the figure they use is based on number of people who use it on a daily basis and is from ca. 1990 (time is a guess). Number of fluent people is much higher, and linguists you consulted were probably in Sakhalin as Russian fieldwork in Ainu in Hokkaido is relatively rare. --Node ue 23:33, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit]The Bolsena lake, situated in central Italy, is the largest lake in Europe with a volcanic origin and is also noted for a peculiar oval shape, unlike most volcanic lakes, as its origin is related to a couple of craters' collapse happened about 300,000 years ago. The article links to many geographic terms, apart from Lake: River, Vulcan, Island. Links also to some historical and artistical personages, as it:Amalasunta and Vignola. - I don't speak any Spanish, but I think it was somethink like "goo-ee-mar". I think the people there pronounced it on the last syllable, but it wolud better for you to ask a Spanish-speaking person. --Steffen Löwe Gera 16:40, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I do speak Spanish a bit. It's /"gwimar/; two syllables, with the stress on the first. (In most languages the trema indicates a separate syllable, but in Spanish it indicates that u is to be pronounced where it otherwise wouldn't). —Muke Tever 17:43, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

- Aliter 04:40, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC) Likely to be looked up in any W. Rewrite the parti-coloured bear and Genma Saotome paragraphs, though.

- Ronline 03:28, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC) - just a question - should we use Kasimov or Qasim, the Tatar name? Although I am a supporter of Tatarstan independence, as far as the English WP article states, Kasimov only has a small Tatar population and is not part of the Tatarstan Republic. Therefore, I think we should use Kasimov when translation (it's not that I wouldn't like to see Qasim used though, but we have to be NPOV)
