Title
Sorry for making this really boring request, but can we move this page to a more fitting title such as Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Implementation or something similar? Thanks, --Gnom (talk) 21:40, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- +1. Or alternatively, Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Transition. --Yair rand (talk) 03:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Not a boring request at all, Gnom and thanks Yair rand for your suggestion!.
- We have gone back and forth in the internal discussions regarding the address of this page. Feedback that we have received is that the URL for the strategy page has been too long and for this reason a short redirect has been previously created and used (2030.wikimedia.org), which has been really helpful. However, for some time now we will continue to use the short redirect to lead to the Movement Strategy recommendations to keep them easily accessible for everyone. At the same time we would like to make the materials that we start publishing about the "transition" also easily accessible, so that is the reason why this really short URL was chosen.
- I do understand that it might now be a too big of a shortcut and not ideally fitting, as you rightfully point out. Here are some considerations regarding moving the page:
- As we are now moving into the Phase III of the Movement Strategy process with the implementation of the recommendations, I am unsure if the 2018-20 portal is the best home for this upcoming information. As we will be referring back to the recommendations in the implementation conversations, I believe it would be useful if the recommendations that the movement has been working on for 2 years has its own easily navigable portal. As a result I would like to (p)reserve Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20 as a home for recommendations we can always refer back to. As Strategic Direction and the process behind it has its own.
- We could go with just 2020 for the transition process, which is one of the options we have considered, i.e. Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2020, but then again it would make sense to have a unified information page for the whole implementation, including the path how we got to the implementation, i.e. this current "transition". At the same time it is hard to set a timeframe on the implementation, so we might need to break the pattern of year numbers and go with /Transition or /Implementation options. What do you think?
- In this light the idea was to use the "2030" number, as the process has become commonly known as Wikimedia 2030 process. Probably the address should have at least been Strategy/Wikimedia2030 or Strategy/Wikimedia_2030 to be more fitting. What do you think of this one? In a longer run there is a plan to create a central landing page for all the phases of the work on Movement Strategy, so this could be it for that one. Could it be a home for the implementation phase or should it be a separate one to follow the existing pattern regarding the Movement Strategy?
- I would be interested to hear what do you think would be the best fitting address for this page taking also considerations I just presented into account. Would it be still what you have proposed or are there more fitting options? In any case, I would like current address to have a redirect to a new page, when we move it, for at least 2 weeks, because this link has been shared in different channels and I don't want to confuse people. Looking forward to your suggestions and thank you for your care and proactive suggestions! --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 10:56, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, KVaidla (WMF). I totally see that "Strategy/2030" is way cooler than "Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2018-20/Transition". But can we please make this consistent instead of creating more confusion by splitting everything up? This is one long interlinked strategy process, after all. Now we have several URL schemes, several landing pages, several sets of navigation boxes... Thanks, --Gnom (talk) 18:21, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- Although I do believe that strategy needs to also be fun and cool to get the people engaged, the choice of the landing place was not really about that. I agree that consistency is a value and so we have replaced the page, keeping the redirect for at least some time. Thank you for sharing your concerns and ideas, Gnom and for your suggestion of a fitting home address for this page Yair rand.
- We still need to work on creating a central page for the whole process where one can easily access all the phases and better understand the work and thinking. Hopefully we are there by the transition events so people are enabled to bring their best understanding to the conversations. Have a great end of the week! --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 08:29, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Nominations spaces
The nomination space on this page says that it's for collaboratives without a default discussion space for nominations. Does this imply that all others do have such default spaces? If so, should there be links to them? (Also, is the section titled "South East Asia" supposed to actually be "South Asia"?) --Yair rand (talk) 04:27, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- Dear Yair rand, thank you for pointing this out and asking the question! Yes, many collaboratives have these default spaces, but sometimes they are not public (e.g. Facebook groups, Telegram groups). These are really convenient places for conversations, but not so accessible and transparent as we are used to in the wikiworld. We will gather links here for the ones can be accessed and try to coordinate that the nominations and endorsements from other channels will be at least partially also presented here. It makes complete sense. --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 19:33, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Nominations closed?
@KVaidla (WMF): I see that you've changed the content page to indicate that the nominations period is over. Should the nominations section of this page be closed? --Yair rand (talk) 22:57, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- It's also unclear what happens to the areas that didn't nominate anyone or if self-appointments are now accepted. I think Western Europe is already represented pretty well in this design team. Philip Kopetzky (talk) 21:28, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
- Dear @Yair rand:, thank you for your note on this topic. The nominations are indeed closed and we have been working this week to clarify all the aspects of the nominations. I will follow up with a closing note for each and every section. We have also published the selection criteria on the meta page and hope this is helpful.
- Regarding the region of Western Europe, you are completely right, @Philip Kopetzky: - that is not one of the regions included among the regions we list in our guidance. This also means that we have foreseen attendance from this region through other group seats and also there is no current collaborative structure that could have been used for nomination procedure. I understand that there are perspectives that could have been added to the Design Group, but at the same time we need to ensure it will be able to do its work effectively, so we need to draw boundaries somewhere. I hope it makes sense. --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 13:55, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
Central nomination space
For the collaboratives that do not have a default discussion space to gather the nominations.
Important note: Please nominate (self nomination is also welcome) Wikimedians from your region here. In the case of multiple nominations endorsements received, engagement with the local and global wiki communities and onwiki contribution will be considered to select one representative.

Regarding the endorsements there is a clear preference for one candidate to step into the role of being the representative of South Asia. We received a notification of concern regarding votestacking in this process, but having looked into the issue there is 1) insufficient evidence and 2) participation of less active accounts in the endorsement process does not make a difference in the end result in this case. As a result, we confirm Rupika as the representative for the region. --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 22:04, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Nobody like him knows what has been done and the goals we are pursuing; WikiDonne User Goup supports him. --Camelia (talk) 21:38, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Notes and comments
--Camelia (talk) 15:38, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Nomination closed - selection made
Iberocoop developed a process of affiliate vote to select their representative and as a result of that process User:ProtoplasmaKid emerged as the representative of the region. We confirm the selection that the group has made. --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 14:36, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

- Support Ad Huikeshoven -- Having worked closely with Ad on a challenging project, he was able to lead our working group and help it move forward to complete its tasks. Very focused and organized, exactly as this process now needs. --- FULBERT (talk) 13:44, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

@Ad Huikeshoven: - thank you for your interest to participate in the design of the transition phase. As we have anticipated presentation of Western Europe from other groups (EDs, chairpersons) and there is not really a functional collaborative across communities in this region, we have not allocated a seat in the design group for the region and this has also not been listed in the framing for call for participation. This point was also clarified during the office hours where you participated in. If you have any further questions, specifications or concerns regarding this, please let us know.
We also plan to open up the design process for people to follow, review and comment on the design updates and draft that we will share on meta. You are more than welcome to join us in this reviewer role to bring the insights and experiences that you have regarding the movement to help us improve the quality of the design. Thank you for your proactive approach and again for your continued interest in movement strategy! --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 22:15, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
WikiFranca
WikiFranca developed a process to select their representative which happened in a closed group (accessible to all members of WikiFranca). As a result of that process Mohammed Bachounda emerged as the representative of the region. We confirm the selection that the group has made. --KVaidla (WMF) (talk) 14:42, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
