Wikimedia Colombia is the local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation in Colombia, that aims for the diffusion and development of initiatives that support free knowledge in the country.
Objectives
[edit]- Encourage the Colombian population to use initiatives and projects that in one way or another allow the free use and distribution of knowledge, both for consultation and for the publication of content.
- Promote the development of projects for the dissemination of free knowledge, with special emphasis on proposals aimed at Colombians and those developed in the country's indigenous languages.
- Fundraising financial resources through the legal means available, including the sale of products and services and the receipt of donations.
- Catalogue and summarise legislation on copyright and copyrights in Colombia, particularly with regard to the definition of free content or free knowledge. It also includes any international legislation that may, in one way or another, affect the development of projects for the dissemination of free knowledge.
- Promote the use and appropriation of free knowledge in educational or socio-cultural areas through technological or traditional initiatives.
Mission
[edit]Wikimedia Colombia is a civil society organisation that works for the promotion of free knowledge through the democratisation of knowledge. It seeks to respond to the challenges and opportunities posed by the information society for the transformation of different contexts. It promotes research and implementation processes in media and information education, social appropriation of knowledge and digital citizenship.

Wikimedia Colombia supports the transformation of society by encouraging the active and diverse participation of communities in building and sustaining the Wikimedia Movement in Colombia, promoting multiculturalism, equity and decentralisation, and contributing to the creation of collective and hopeful narratives with multiple actors to imagine and build possible futures.
