Stewards/elections 2010/Guidelines/lb

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This page guides users interested in voting or being a candidate in the steward elections. Please read each relevant section below.

Wieler

[edit]

Before you vote, you must:

  • have a global account (or an account on Meta with user page linked to your main wiki, and a link to your meta account from your home wiki user page);
  • not primarily use the account for automated (bot) tasks;
  • have made at least 600 edits before 01 November 2009 (on one wiki, or edits on unified wikis can be combined);
  • have made at least 50 edits between 01 August 2009 and 31 January 2010 (on the same wiki as above, or edits on unified wikis can be combined).

You can check your eligibility automatically.

Translators

[edit]

Please help translate these pages into your languages:

  • introduction (top of the election page);
  • instructions (this page): see the translation box at the right;
  • candidate statements: see translation links under each heading;
  • CentralNotice: see translation page.

Suggestions to participants

[edit]
  • If your home wiki doesn't have a notice that this election is under way, consider posting to your public noticeboard there to encourage participation.
  • Ask questions of the candidates if you like. Deeply threaded conversations may be refactored to the talk page for the candidate statement if necessary. Please leave a note behind so other participants know where to look if they are interested.
  • Feel free to make a short (one or two lines at most) statement explaining your vote. Again, deeply threaded conversations (responses to the votes of others) may be refactored, and again, please leave a note behind for other participants to know that there is something to read if they want.

Candidates

[edit]

Prerequisites

[edit]

Before applying for stewardship, you must:

  • agree to abide by the Steward policies;
  • have a global (SUL) account;
  • have an active user account on this Meta wiki (attached to your unified account);
  • have an account on at least one Wikimedia Foundation project where you have been active for at least three months.

Also, because the work stewards can become involved in can lead to legal consequences and involvement (see CheckUser and Oversight policies), you must be:

  • at least 18 years old before the final day of voting;
  • willing to provide your full name and proof of identity to the Wikimedia Foundation.

Stewards are preferably multilingual, because steward-based operations often involve projects of varying language. They should also be available on a reasonably common basis. Among other limitations, stewards are discouraged from using their access on projects that they are active on, to avoid conflicts of interest, and are encouraged to watch and lend assistance at the Meta request pages (such as permissions, bot status, and checkuser information). If you use IRC, please join #wikimedia-stewardsconnect on freenode to answer requests.

Inactive stewards will have their access removed.

Application

[edit]

If you want to submit yourself as a candidate, please follow these steps.

Create your statement and vote page

[edit]
  • Create a subpage (just open it and click save)

  • Edit the page with the following information:
    • Your real name (optional);
    • a link to your user account on Meta, and a link to a second active account that meets the prerequisites.
    • a list of languages you can read and write, using the language-independent Wikimedia shorthand (see {{user language}}).
    • a short summary of your participation in the Wikimedia Foundation. Of particular interest are administrator or bureaucrat status, volunteer work such as membership of the email response team or an Arbitration Committee, or any other information you feel is relevant. You can read other applicants' statements for more ideas.
  • Now create your votes page (no need to do any modifications. Just create the page):

  • When you are done with that, add yourself to the statements index page (with {{/Your_username_here}}), add a section to the Questions page and list your subpage on the elections page by adding the following text in alphabetical order: "{{Se2010 candidate indexer|your username}}". Volunteers will add translations in various languages to it for you.

Provide proof of identity
