Hey, I'm a South African and as such, am fluent in Afrikaans. I would like to translate English Wikimedia notices into Afrikaans if there is a need for it. Thanks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Aleksandar_Bulovic' Aleksandar Bulovic' (talk) 17:13, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Translation transclusion

Hi,

I set up translation using Special:Translate on the subpages of Research:Wikimedia France Research Award/nominated papers ; but as you can see there are dangling <translate> tags. Did I miss something ? Is translation not adapated to that sort of translusions ?

Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 13:15, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Indeed it isn't. You must transclude a language subpage: translatable pages/templates can't be transcluded directly, as stated in mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration#Markup_examples (last point). --Nemo 11:32, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for fixing! Jean-Fred (talk) 13:56, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

poco tempo per leggere le istruzioni: posso aiutare a tradurre dal francese all'Italiano?

Dal francese all'Italiano so tradurre molto bene: posso aiutare e come? Anche dall'Italiano al Francese..: nei ritagli del mio tempo occupatissimo.. perch no? Il mestiere di Traduttore è rilassante, ma poca dimestichezza con l'informatica!! Grazie, — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gloria S. (talk) 22:19, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Istruzioni per iniziare a tradurre:
Sorry for my bad Italian. If you have any more questions, or need an explanation, I am willing to answer in any of these languages: English, French, Italian, Latin. πr2 (t • c) 04:50, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

To all translation administrators: I'd now recommend never to invalidate translations when a translation for the old text is still better than nothing. We may need to review the existing fuzzied sections, I'm unsure what to do. There are too many, can't do anything.[1] --Nemo 15:12, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

I sent a request to translators-l, I hope we'll soon get our translations back. --Nemo 15:46, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

They won't, unless we do something (e.g. via bot) as I said there. --Nemo 18:46, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

GSOC / OPW project proposal

Check Tools for mass migration of legacy translated wiki content, a project idea we are featuring for potential Google Summer of Code and Outreach Program for Women. Question: IF we get a volunteer working on this AND IF we are happy with the quality of the tools, would Meta be happy about being the testing bed and could you volunteer to guide the student in what pages would be subject for migration? Just asking now because I don't want to leave to a newcomer the task of convincing a Wikimedia community. :) --Qgil (talk) 18:19, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

We can surely find some pages which still need migration to the Translation extension :D Strong support, such a tool would be great. --MF-W 21:17, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Great idea! πr2 (t • c) 14:12, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

New translation interface now default

Since yesterday, the new translation interface is the default; &tux=0 can be appended to the URL to (temporarily) go back to the old interface; most feedback is currently on translatewiki:Support but this page is ok too if you have something to say, I'd think. --Nemo 09:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Note: the threads were moved to a different page betawiki:Translation UX feedback. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:07, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
I thank the team for dedicating time in upgrading our tools but I personally find the new interface more complicated, more intrusive and less intuitive than the another. If this change is going to be permanent there should be an option in the Special:Preferences to allow users to use the old translation interface IMHO. The old interface were simpler but get the purpose of the tool: easy translating. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:02, 15 April 2013 (UTC) (copied over there as well -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:18, 15 April 2013 (UTC))

Special:NotifyTranslators

When should Special:NotifyTranslators be used? Should it only be used for important (e.g., WMF) stuff? PiRSquared17 (talk) 20:32, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, for important (!= WMF) stuff. --Nemo 13:20, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Weird

Tracked in Phabricator:
Bug 47178

Well, so now this results in this and this one into this other?. -- I've used Special:Translate (untranslated messages). Thanks. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:58, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, changing source text seems to invalidate (fuzzy) everything now. You can try to edit another translation unit to fix it (or maybe null-edit). PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:08, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Is any bug or planned fix for this? Trying to translate something, then the extension ruining it is not funny. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 18:17, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Devs are quite busy this week so we've not had a response yet, but it's filed as bugzilla:47178. We lacked bored translation admins debugging it properly, apparently; before me nobody did. ;-) --Nemo 18:29, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
I thought it was just me (even though I was checking "Do not invalidate"). How should we deal with this in the meantime? PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:41, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

The fix reached Meta on the 1st as part of mw:MediaWiki_1.22/wmf3#Translate, everything seems to work correctly now. --Nemo 11:00, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Change one word in Russian, please

In many pages (for example, at Wikidata/ru) I see a list of languages. In this list, the simplified Chinese is named in Russian "‎упрощенный китайский". Please replace this spelling with "‎упрощённый китайский", because the yo letter must be here. Gamliel Fishkin (talk) 11:57, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, it's not possible. You have to report this to CLDR; easiest is perhaps using http://unicode.org/cldr/trac/newticket --Nemo 12:28, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
What I have to to choose in the drop-down lists Type, Component and Version? Is Data Locale Russian? And what information is needed in Data Xpath? Gamliel Fishkin (talk) 12:48, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Try defect, data, 23 and ignore the other two. --Nemo 12:51, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Privacy policy translation

As Anthere noted[2] on wikimedia-l, the translation of the policy is stalling. It's a good candidate for a migration to the Translate extension here on Meta. Anyone wanting to work on it? --Nemo 06:51, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Just chatting with Michelle and she says that we should have a new privacy policy draft out for the community to comment on (similar to how we did the Terms of Service) in the next month or two (before Wikimania) so that it can be discussed and picked apart both on wiki and at Wikimania. It's obviously fine if the current one gets translated more but we may want to wait for that to avoid extra effort. Jalexander (talk) 07:14, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
I know[3] but there's no reason to wait many more months for the migration. Translation of the current policy will obviously be useful also for the discussion on the new one, so if someone wants to translate it better so; of course it won't be the highest priority we give to translators. --Nemo 07:29, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Totally fine, I just wanted to make sure that was out there. I certainly would like to see it in more languages overall anyway. Jalexander (talk) 08:21, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Dates

Is {{date}} recommended for translating dates? Example sentence: "It passed on December 3, 2012." Should we use ISO dates, the template, or is there a parserfunction? PiRSquared17 (talk) 22:57, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

This is for a template which is given a date as a parameter. PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
Depends on the use case.. I'd say for pages using the Translate ext., it's not necessary, translators can simply "translate" it themselves in context. --MF-W 01:02, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Translation notification bot flag still not applied on nl-wiki

Tracked in Phabricator:
Bug 33461

Please read here. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 06:16, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

The bot works fine and does not need a flag. There is no problem, users who have set in their preferences that they want to receive notifications of new translation requests want to see these messages. Romaine (talk) 02:17, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

According to the bot policy on the Dutch Wikipedia, bots without bot flags may not perform more than one edit per minute: "Bots running without a bot flag should edit at intervals of over 1 minute." Is it possible to get Translation Notification Bot to do that? Mathonius (talk) 09:23, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Never mind, I gave the bot a bot flag and unblocked it too. Mathonius (talk) 14:20, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

The bot is a systemaccount which means that it is operated by the MediaWiki-software itself. There is no user who is operating this systembot, and therefore can't respond to requests and comments. The systembot is designed to operate this way and it has been been impossible in the software to hide the edits from the recent changes or the watchlist: it is meant to be seen. Romaine (talk) 02:42, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I just submitted gerrit:66372 which will have the bot mark it's edits as bot if it is in the "bot" group. Legoktm (talk) 02:43, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
That would make the edits less irritating I think. Romaine (talk) 03:46, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Template:TOCleft and Template:TOCright on RTL pages

Saving... for hours

I've been translating Free knowledge based on Creative Commons licenses since morning, and each item of my work is still switched on Saving...
Well, I've had the same *£@$*!! trick last week, I did quit to get to bed... and loose the whole stuff, of course.
What should I do now ? Leave the PC (and the server) churning overnight or send the whole damn thing to hell once more ?
Siubhán McGunn (talk) 19:35, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

I have no idea, that page has been very unlucky. I've reported the problem on bugzilla:47184 but it seems one of those mysterious issues that require some magic, we can do little but crossing fingers. --Nemo 12:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
I had the same thing recently. I just opened my translation as if I want to edit it, then copied it into text file on my computer. Than I refreshed the page and pasted all missed translations back. Problem was solved. Nermosh 22:20, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Translations automatically published ?

(moved here from Talk:Translation requests)
Hi friends,
if a translation is marked as "ready", does it appear on a watchlist then, so that admins can review and "publish" it?
Or is there a page, where "ready" translations can be announced for reviewing/publishing?
Thanks in advance --Murma174 (talk) 21:17, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

As said below, most translations are not published anywhere but Meta. What translation do you have in mind? You can see the status of the various pages for your language at Special:LanguageStats; those who request a particular translation usually take care of publishing it where needed (an exception is wmf: wiki which is now abandoned). --Nemo 21:42, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

How to help translate on Meta

Good morning meta,

I'd like to be more active in this communauty and I'd like to know how to help for the translations of articles?--Pingunis (talk) 11:09, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

If you go to Special:LanguageStats/fr, you will see a list of untranslated messages into French (which seems to be your language). For help with the translation interface, please see mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Translation_example/fr. If you don't understand something, feel free to ask. PiRSquared17 (talk) 11:45, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Where translations are published

Could the requests for translations include information about where the translations will be published? In small language communities it is not possible to translate everything. If this information were included it would help us decide which translation we should concentrate on. Leli Forte (talk) 17:57, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Most translations just live on Meta. We have several aggregate groups e.g. for fundraising, blog posts, other high priority translations. What would be high priority for you? If you tell us, we can try to list the translations you're interested in better. --Nemo 21:42, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Nemo. The ones with the highest priority for me would be those that will appear on mt.wikipedia. Leli Forte (talk) 10:37, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Can we translate the navigation sidebar on Wikimedia Commons and here? Some items on the sidebar, common to all wikis, are translated on translatewiki.net. But other items such as "village pump", "welcome", "latest files" and "contact page" on Wikimedia Commons are specific to the site. Is there a way to translate these here at meta, or on Commons, or on translatewiki.net? Lloffiwr (talk) 17:21, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello! :) Here's a tip: add ?uselang=qqx (or &uselang=qqx if the URI already has a question mark) to the end of the web address to see what MediaWiki messages are used. For example: //commons.wikimedia.org/?uselang=qqx. It seems you are looking for commons:MediaWiki:Village_pump (example translation). If you click on the village pump link in qqx mode, you will get to the page called "(village_pump-url)". This means that you should translate commons:MediaWiki:Village_pump-url. Same for the welcome text, welcome link, etc. To translate these, get an admin to create the MediaWiki page with "/cy" (or another language code) at the end. You can use {{editprotected}} to do so. Hope this helps. PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:37, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Explanation added to translatewiki.net FAQ. Would add it to meta translation FAQ if I weren't so tired. Lloffiwr (talk) 20:52, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Translation notification bot does not have the appropriate flag on ptwiki

Please request here the flag before running it there. José Luiz talk 01:07, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

The bot is operated by the MediaWiki software itself and giving it a botflag is useless as that wouldn't result in hide it from the recent changes or watchlists. (On nl-wiki the bot was given a botbit and still shows up in the recent changes and watchlist.) Having spoken to the developers of the MediaWiki software, it appears that the bot is intended to operate in a visible modus and it is prevented in the software to hide the edits of the bot. Also the developers say that we should not treat the Translation Notification Bot as a bot as it isn't operated by users but by the software itself. (The bot policy is made for bots operated by users.)Romaine (talk) 02:46, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
This is wrong. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:47, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Apparently adding it to the bot group should from now on result in being hidden from the recent changes or watchlists, as I read one header above here. Romaine (talk) 03:49, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
It is flooding recent changes. It is wrong. Developers cannot decide to ignore community rules. Did they really say that?—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 02:13, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Also happened just on Meta. It seems like bugzilla:41637 is not fixed anymore. --MF-W 02:23, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

VisualEditor central notice

The message group

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=Centralnotice-tgroup-VisualEditor_deployment&filter=&action=translate#msg_VisualEditor_deployment-close

states that translation into cy is not a priority.

But on Special:CentralNotice this group is listed as appearing on most languages, including cy, during phase 3, on 24-7-13. This appears contradictory. Am I missing a trick? Will my translations (currently at proofreading stage) be published? Lloffiwr (talk) 23:49, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Babel post in Korean

Someone recently posted something to Meta:Babel that I think may be more relevant here, based on what I could glean from a rough Google translation. Could someone who reads Korean please check out "Meta:Babel#영어를 주요 회화체로 말하려고 하는데 그에 대한 논의를 시작 하고자 합니다." and either delete the comment (if it's nonsense), move it here (if it's related to translation), or move it to User talk:175.200.179.15 with a reply (if it calls for one)? Thanks. - dcljr (talk) 00:42, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Not that I'm personally interested, necessarily, but it looked like it might not be relevant to Meta:Babel. You can post a translation to Meta:Babel#영어를 주요 회화체로 말하려고 하는데 그에 대한 논의를 시작 하고자 합니다. if you want. - dcljr (talk) 08:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Publishing donation page messages

I request that, while things are fairly quiet on the fundraising side of things, that the administrators who have the power to do so, publish the messages of the donation pages which appear to have been left unpublished for many months, for all the languages which have meta groups marked "ready". In Welsh (cy) for example, the groups Landing Page and Banner Messages, Donor information pages and Launch e-mail have all been "ready" for ages but are as yet unpublished. These pages are always live, and leaving bits of the donation pages untranslated means that:

  • they are not effective at fundraising,
  • users encountering the mess are unnecessarily aggravated, and
  • the translators are discouraged

And when they are published, would the administrator involved please change the status of the group to "published"? Lloffiwr (talk) 22:29, 19 July 2013 (UTC) Done - message posted to Fundraising 2013/Translation talk page and dealt with there. Lloffiwr (talk) 18:08, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Translation extension just does not save translations.

Here I tried to translate this pages into German. But the software does not save the translation. I tried it several times and I can not find the reason. Ive done lots of translations on Wikidata so I know this tool. I also tried to klick the history and then edit the old fashion way, but this does not work, because the German pages do not exist so you can´t click the history.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 20:53, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm very sorry that you lost your translations: I know how annoying it is. I see however that you managed to save other translations a few hours ago and I just translated two messages from that page [6]. Can you please retry and check if some information appears in your browser's error console (probably accessible at ctrl+shift+j)? --Nemo 21:03, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
If the user interface language is set to German, it might be worth trying to change it to another language as a workaround (using the Universal Language Selector). See Bugzilla:53963. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
If I change to another language I can not get access to the German translation page. However I tried with "Plattdüütsch" but I can´t save pages in this language setting either. I use XP and FF 24.0.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 10:03, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Translation language and interface language can be different. After changing the interface language using the Universal Language Selector (see here for instructions), one can still translate into German, either by changing the translation language in the "Translate to" dropdown menu on the top right, or directly using this link in your example. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 17:20, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
I tried the error console and I found lots of troubles with css. I tried to set back the the preferences to standard preferences. To my surprise I can save now all the edits. But still there are lots of errors reported. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 10:22, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Giftzwerg 88, please report them. Otherwise it's very hard to help translators. --Nemo 12:48, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Done, thanks (the banners already went off soon after your note, as scheduled, but they are going to be used again). Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 19:53, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Request publication of the FDC banner for cy

I request publication of the current FDC banners to cy - the group Centralnotice-template-FDCpropreview20133 v1 (and similar groups). Thanks in advance. Lloffiwr (talk) 12:02, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

247 fresh WMF board resolutions to be marked for translation

For all the interested translation administrators: [7]. They already have some essential tagging but the button "mark for translation" doesn't appear before a (dummy) edit, hopefully it doesn't take too much to prepare and mark them because there are no translations to import. Red links will soon be made blue by importing the policies and minutes too, :) feel free to list what's missing (policies however are more tedious because of the old translations to be imported). --Nemo 17:27, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

~50% done. --Steinsplitter (talk) 20:08, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Translation progress can now be followed at Special:MessageGroupStats/agg-WMF_Resolutions. --Nemo 20:56, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

The orange fundraising banner for anons

Copying my text from the Wikimedia Forum where I received no replies:

Where may I translate the orange fundraising banner that starts like this: Dear Wikipedia readers: We are the small non-profit that runs the #5 website in the world.?

--Njardarlogar (talk) 20:30, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

I don't know for sure, but check out our pages whose titles begin with "Fundraising" and Fundraising 2013 for some ideas (the "help out translating" link at the latter page is stale, unfortunately, and points to Fundraising 2012/Translation). Good luck... - dcljr (talk) 01:36, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
In the talk page of the latter, however, sometimes Pcoombe answers. --Nemo 17:28, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, got it answered there. Good. (answer). --Njardarlogar (talk) 20:34, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia LGBT + category sorting question

Wikimedia LGBT is currently seeking assistance with translating project pages in all languages. I have sent talk page requests to specific editors who I have seen help with translations here at Meta, but all translators are welcome.

Also, please see this question regarding category sorting and translated pages. It does not seem intuitive to sort pages based on language instead of page content. Is this normal? --Another Believer (talk) 04:13, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia LGBT/Nav use SUBPAGENAME as the sort key. PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:01, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
I see SUBPAGENAME in the template's code, but I assume it is not being used correctly. (?) --Another Believer (talk) 05:07, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
If you don't want to sort by language, you need BASEPAGENAME: the subpage name is en etc. Just use {{Langcat}}. --Nemo 08:27, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
I replaced SUBPAGENAME with BASEPAGENAME in the code, per PiR's suggestion. I still see pages sorted by language, rather than subpage title, but perhaps it takes some time to adjust? Or, if someone is able to make the fix for me, I will know how to do this in the future. Thank you. --Another Believer (talk) 16:45, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
This remains unresolved. I do not understand how to use Langcat, and I am not sure my edit to the nav page (SUBPAGENAME-->BASEPAGENAME) made a difference either. Any assistance resolving this sort issue would be greatly appreciated. --Another Believer (talk) 17:23, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Wikisource/cy

The page Wikisource/cy is 93% complete. How do I make this 100% complete? The messages are apparently all translated. Lloffiwr (talk) 22:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Done Now showing 100% done. Lloffiwr (talk) 13:57, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

AffCom Resolution

Hi there,
could some nice and kind translation admin enable the translation for this AffCom resolution Affiliations_Committee/Resolutions/The_Wikinewsie_Group? Thanks! --Jcornelius (talk) 13:07, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

It was already marked, but in a rather "weird" way to use an euphemism; fixed. --Nemo 13:19, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Thx! --Jcornelius (talk) 13:57, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Italian documentation for Dutch translation

Why do I see CNBanner:TrademarkpolicyA-text1/qqq (apparently an Italian text) as documentation when I'm translating this to Dutch? Mathonius (talk) 01:36, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

I don't know, and its history is confusing. I'm guessing they were trying to add documentation for their edits (in particular units), not documentation for all translations of that unit. BTW, it's not only in Italian - part of it is in Spanish, and part in Esperanto. PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:42, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the new interface is rather confusing because it lacks an edit summary field. Sadly there is little to nothing we can do about it: we can only ignore such qqq edits and vote for bugzilla:46924. --Nemo 20:58, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Translation of FDC pages

Hei, I am interested in setting up the translation of FDC pages (portals, proposals, reports, and possibly secondary documents as letters of intent, staff assessment -- I find these less important from the point of view of translations). I left a message on the FDC comments page; I leave a message here for information, but perhaps it is better to centralise the discussion there. I just discovered the wonderful Template:Translatable template, which will be very helpful for the FDC pages. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 22:45, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

As a side effect, I proposed the creation of a magic word {{CURRENTCONTENTLANGUAGE}} (I implemented an Ersatz of such a magic word, and some tries on User:Seb35/Translations). Please comment if you find it is a good or a bad idea. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 22:52, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

TNT

Why is TNT on strike on SE and Stewards/Elections 2014/Statements (where it should include Stewards/Elections 2014/Introduction)? --MF-W 00:44, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Looks okay to me. ;) PiRSquared17 (talk) 04:04, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Do you want to tell us the trick? :O --MF-W 10:55, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Magic.
  1. Make a dummy edit to Stewards/Elections 2014/Introduction.
  2. Re-mark Stewards/Elections 2014/Introduction for translation, forcing our good friend User:FuzzyBot to create Stewards/Elections 2014/Introduction/en.
Some bug makes this necessary. The translation extension has a ton of issues like that.
  3. Purge cache of Stewards/Elections 2014.
  4. Remove strange "namespace" parameter from TNT on Stewards/Elections 2014/Statements.
P.S., should SE redirect to Steward elections? PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:50, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
Ok, so it was some problem with the non-existence of the /en subpage... Well, the mysteries in Special:Translate are indeed of a great number.
@PS: My laziness would prefer if it would redirect to the current election, at least while it is being prepared and ongoing. --MF-W 21:53, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Change English alphabet to Welsh on cy

The Welsh language alphabet contains 28 'letters', some of which are 'double' eg ll as in Llangwm, ch as in Chwilen and Ff as in Ffwng. Throughout Wiki cy, categories use the en alphabet and therefore chwilen comes under the letter 'c', whereas it should follow 'c' as a letter in it's own right: 'ch'. Take a look at this Category here, where we see Llwyni under 'L' rather than the letter 'Ll', which doesn't exist. Any ideas how we substitute the default en with cy, please? Llywelyn2000 (talk) 18:08, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Maybe there is some solution possible with mw:Manual:$wgCategoryCollation? --MF-W 21:55, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

Differences between translating in the "List" view and "Page" view

I am not sure whether this question is on the right place here (if not, please move it to where it belongs), but this is the problem I have encountered: When translating on Meta-Wiki I found out that in the „Page“ view it is not possible to highlight a string of characters (necessary for copying, moving or deleting) whereas in the „List“ view this standard way of editing works as expected. Could this feature be incorporated into the „Page“ view as well? Paxt (talk) 10:27, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

bugzilla:47861 was reported and fixed a while ago. What are you exactly selecting where? Selection works for me, the only thing I found is that I can't select the English text of an unit while I'm in another unit, because otherwise the selected text is opened in translation mode. Is this what you're talking about? --Nemo 10:29, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
No, I mean something else. If I open a message for editing, and paste a source text into the editing area, then I cannot select anything in the pasted text. --Paxt (talk) 10:45, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Are you using the "Paste source text" button? Works for me on Firefox, are you using Internet Explorer? If yes please stop immediately and use a proper browser, for your own health ;) , then tell me which version it was and I'll file a bug. --Nemo 10:51, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I am using that button. And no, I am using Opera browser, ver. 12.15 --Paxt (talk) 10:59, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
BTW, the same works fine in Chrome browser as I checked just now. --Paxt (talk) 11:24, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Another problem: When I am translating in the "List" view and switch to the "Page" view, my position in the group of messages is lost and I find myself on the beginning of the group. It is really annoying to look for the message I was working on again and again whenever I switch the view... --Paxt (talk) 16:33, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Long lists and Translate

Hi,

mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration#Markup_examples claims that long lists may be split into smaller chunks. When testing this on User:Jean-Frédéric/Sandbox this does not seem to work at all. Am I missing something here?

Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 22:55, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Put a newline between </translate> and <translate>. PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:47, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Huh. Which is specifically discouraged in the documentation as breaking HTML outputs. Which it does not. Damn the documentation. Thanks PiRSquared17. :) Jean-Fred (talk) 23:59, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Hm, maybe someone should fix that, as it does exactly the opposite. ;) PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:03, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
I asked Nikerabbit, he said to file a bug to ask the documentation to be fixed. Can either of you two please do so, as you pinpointed the problem? --Nemo 20:48, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Nemo. Filed under bugzilla:58922. Jean-Fred (talk) 23:20, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
