Turning on "schedule in local time" for the Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2021
Would an interface administrator be able to edit MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Schedule in local time.js with the code at https://wikiconference.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Gadget-fix-schedule-times.js to show the CEE schedule in local time? This would unfortunately result in one if
statement getting run for every page load (for the duration of the conference) but the alternative (withJS) is unsatisfactory from a user-experience perspective. I suppose the auto-reload snippet could either go in the new JS page or a third JS page (potentially MediaWiki:Autorefresh.js?), but I suppose it shouldn't go in Common.js due to Meta being a bigger wiki than the WikiConference wiki. (Ping original requester: tgr.) Enterprisey (talk) 23:13, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Why do we need this? This project is international, shouldn't you just post any notices in UTC? — xaosflux Talk 23:21, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- We got a large number of positive user comments when we turned it on for WikiConference NA 2021, and personally it greatly improved my conference experience. Enterprisey (talk) 23:24, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Enterprisey: so this is solely for formatting text on this one page: Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2021/Programme? Can't you just put a ?withJS button to reload the page there "Show times in my local time". — xaosflux Talk 23:27, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux localized time zones are a very basic feature in any kind of scheduling user interface. The schedules for Wikimedia events are commonly stored on Meta. This should be a standard feature for all conferences (and I'm sure all conference organizers would happily use it). Tgr (talk) 23:33, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- That certainly sounds like a feature for a scheduling interface system - but mediawiki pages are not a scheduling interface system..... — xaosflux Talk 00:06, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- We tried that during WikiConference NA 2020. People don't really click on buttons. It has to work as soon as you visit the page. Enterprisey (talk) 23:38, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- They clicked on something to get them to that page didn't they? A big inviting "Click to show times in your local timezome" at the top of table seems easy enough for anyone who actually wants to see those in local time? — xaosflux Talk 17:48, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- It's tedious to click on every time and a thoroughly inferior user experience. Enterprisey (talk) 23:30, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- <slight sarcasm>It's such a shame that the developers are so against making something like this easy to put on a single page (phab:T8883 from 2006 which was finally denied and referred over to phab:T63007)</slight sarcasm> Running a script for every single page to ask "is THIS the page" isn't a design that I think is a good idea for something so niche (there are only ~70 users list on the registration). — xaosflux Talk 00:06, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- While I think this is a bad idea in general - we have a bunch of other IAdmins and likely one of them will action this because it isn't worth fighting that much over, so check back in a bit. — xaosflux Talk 00:06, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

- @Enterprisey: do logged out users need this? (i.e. can it be a gadget loaded for logged in users?) — xaosflux Talk 14:29, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, logged-out users need this too. Not everyone participating in the conference is necessarily logged in. I guess we could trade it off, but a default gadget is just about morally equivalent to extra common.js code. Enterprisey (talk) 23:32, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
Does that script use the time zone one has selected in their preferences or just uses the computer time zone? I would rather not have the latter, it is super confusing and annoying. --Base (talk) 14:40, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- The computer time zone works for almost everyone. When I started the script, I first tried using the one from the preferences and found it difficult: I'm pretty sure there's no way to use the API to get a timestamp formatted in the user's locale. Enterprisey (talk) 23:32, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Not done as the timeline this was requested for has passed. If something like this is desired in the future, please give much more lead time for discussion. — xaosflux Talk 11:37, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Marking for translation
Hi, please mark Wikimedia_Central_and_Eastern_Europe/Hub/2021_survey_translation for translation. Thank you! Tgr (talk) 00:42, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- Doing... Some tweaks are needed before. -- Pols12 (talk) 14:10, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- Done However, there are some wikifying issues in first section:
- we usually don’t use level-1 heading
- we should link “learn more about the research” text instead of displaying the URL (idem for Hubs link)
- we should escape email address with {{@}} to avoid spam
- we should use a list, add BR tag or make paragraphs with empty lines in order that line breaks are displayed.
- I have not fixed them because I don’t know if these changes are expected (giving Meta-Wiki is not the final location). If these should be changed, that should happen before translator work. -- Pols12 (talk) 14:26, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks @Pols12! These don't matter since the translations will be exported to Google Forms, and less formatting makes that easier. (Except the one about spam, but I think the @ template is not very effective anyway + spam filters are pretty good these days.) In hindsight using headings at all was probably an unnecessary complication; I figured it might be useful for someone who finds this page in the future and wants to see what the questions were but that's a fringe use-case. Oh well. Tgr (talk) 03:01, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

- I've noticed that this user has tagged vandalistic pages before as "Out of scope". There's a fine line between the two, and so no, I don't trust this user clicking the [Mark as patrolled] button
- Lack of civility (or at least, per Special:Diff/21850478 or Special:Diff/21850845.

Move page Movement Charter/Drafting Committee
Hi,
I'd like to archive (or at least move) this page, to start a new page with information on the 15 chosen/appointed members of the MCDC. If I am correct there is no specific noticeboard for Translation administrators? Ciell (talk) 20:42, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Ciell 1. What title do you want this page moved to? 2. The move can only be done by system administrators since it would require over 500 pages to be moved. 3. You were probably looking for Meta talk:Babylon. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 21:41, 20 November 2021 (UTC)- Hi, thanks for the questions.
- 1) I was thinking something along the lines of Movement Charter/Drafting Committee/Profile. 2) I understand this, yes. The MovStrat team has requested the members of the MCDC, that now have been chosen/appointed, to introduce themselves on this page, and we are preparing a set of principles and communications about the MCDC. This would make this page even more outdated then it already is, since the elections are over. We can of course just change the text and do a complete revision of the whole page, but I think for historical reference it may be good to keep the page history and all the translations in one place. But let me first get some more clarity in this from @KVaidla (WMF) and get back to you. 3) I am not sure what I should read on the specific talkpage you mentioned? I got a Mediawiki warning that I could not move the page (which is understandable), but there was no link on the page were I could discuss or request the move. Ciell (talk) 09:11, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hey @Ciell, I see @Pols12 created phab:T296150 about this (it needs a Phabricator ticket, because the page has too many subpages).
- Can you confirm (ideally, on the task ) that "Movement Charter/Drafting Committee/Profile" is the new desired title? I want to avoid having to move the page more than once, as it's not really a cheap operation (which is why it needs sysadmin's supervision).
- Thanks, Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:56, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Martin, and yes: please hold the request. I have sent an email to Kaarel, and asked him how he proposes to handle this. We will reply on the task if a move is still desired, or if not I'll just close the task. Ciell (talk) 14:46, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- I have open T296150 for your request: requests to sysadmin happen on Phabricator.
- The third item of 1234qwer1234qwer4 was an answer to your question about “specific noticeboard”. Officially, you’re on the right page, but I think like 1234qwer1234qwer4 that Babylon talk page is more appropriate to talk about translatable page issues. -- Pols12 (talk) 12:57, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Pols12 Maybe this information could be added to the information page? It now only reads : "You do not have permission to manage translatable pages, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Translation administrators."
- A link to a discussion page could be helpful. Ciell (talk) 14:54, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Pols12 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand, the above request, as it is currently phrased and discussed, seems to imply moving all the subpages within the name space of Movement Charter/Drafting Committee/XX. This may include, for example, moving the Movement Charter/Drafting Committee/Candidates page, which includes 700 translation subpages in over a dozen language. As someone who has been creating and curating these pages, however, this is not the request and it is not a useful move. Instead, I would look for moving only the individual page named Movement Charter/Drafting Committee (with its translations), in order to replace it with newer content. Do you think that would be possible? --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 11:06, 22 November 2021 (UTC).
- Don’t worry, there is no technical need to move subpages along with the translatable page, and I don’t think this was the Ciell request. But you do well to point this issue: sysadmin who will handle this request (probably Martin) must know whether to move subpages. -- Pols12 (talk) 23:11, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Pols12 Thank you for this reassurance, I just wanted to make sure! Should we be following on this move on Phabricator? Anything else I can/should do at the moment? --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 13:33, 29 November 2021 (UTC).
- @Abbad (WMF) Someone (not necessarily you) needs to define the final new name and report it at the Phabricator task, so a sysadmin can do the rename. Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:52, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Martin Urbanec Thank you for clarifying! I'll check with Ciell and reply there --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 14:02, 29 November 2021 (UTC).
