Learning patterns/Edit-a-thon in classroom
What problem does this solve?
[edit]You are a Wikimedia Education Program manager/volunteer and you wish to collaborate with new high-schools, but it can be time consuming and the quality of outcome is at question.
What is the solution?
[edit]Organize an edit-a-thon at high-school. This way you can oversee the article editing process, after the workshop.
Things to consider
[edit]- Educate teachers/professors in advance (what is Wikipedia, how to make a good article…)
- Help browsing and confirming article topics with professors/teachers
- Make an arrangement to prepare text beforehand and bring it on flash, in e-mail to edit-a-thon and especially to pay attention on references
- Invite several volunteers to help-up (according to group size)
When to use
[edit]This pattern applies if you are interested in incorporating Wikipedia instruction in your classroom, but you can’t dedicate to this project long-term. You can use it when you want to support new student editors by helping them create first articles. As well, in case there is a new professor to join Wikimedia Education Program, this makes it easy to ensure the article quality and efficiency of cooperation. Professor Milena Ristic from School of design in Belgrade participated in such edit-a-thon and showed an enthusiasm to continue the cooperation.
