Grants talk:PEG/Wikimedia Slovakia/Start-up/Report
Add topicThank you for this report! It's great to hear that a number of activities were successful and the group is on a much more solid foundation for organizing volunteers and programs. We have a few questions/comments below and look forward to your response:
- Please provide more details on the Day of financial literacy with Wikipedia 2014.
- It's great to hear that the group has established good partnerships and now has several sources of funding.
- What was the biggest challenge in launching the travel support for Commons photographers program? Was it mostly a lack of capacity from organizing volunteers?
- Have volunteers been able to use the resources scanned by the Slovak National Library project?
- Are there any outcomes from the March group meeting in terms of future planning that would be useful to share?
- There is 3,512.68 EUR remaining. You can hold on to these funds if you plan on submitting a new request in the next month. Otherwise, the funds should be returned to WMF. Please confirm.
Thanks again, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 03:42, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi KuboF. It would be great to get your responses to the above questions so we can close out this grant. Thanks. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 18:43, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, I am sorry for very late respond. It was "a little bit" hectic time during last months...
- "Day of financial literacy with Wikipedia 2014" was article writing contest on Slovak Wikipedia about financial topic co-organised with external partner, nun-profit foundation "Nadácia PARTNERS" (which is foundation of for-profit agency PARTNERS). There was pre-selected set of articles of very narrow topic, you can see the results. Thanks to this year of this particular contest I have realized some things about such competitions, some of them I have presented on WM CEE Meeting 2014. Especially that the length of contest (2 months) was too long for Slovak Wikipedia community, the topic was too narrow and I suppose that pre-selected set of articles make the impact of the contest less (especially, that the users cannot create articles closer to their interests). WMSK does not plan to make this contest again.
- And it great to live it ;)
- Mostly here was lack of project leader. There was plan to establish this project but its priority was lower than couple of other projects (from big part urgent, time-defined projects). Also, there was problems about territory - many leaders lived for long time abroad so there was same problems about sending receipts.
- Slovak National Library is going to start big publication of scanned materials only in September / October 2015, so not for now.
- We would like use part of the resting resources for Wiki Loves Mmonuments 2015. I will communicate details with the grant team.
- Again, sorry for long waiting, and hope that I responded well. Regards. --KuboF (talk) 23:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

- Hi KuboF. Thanks for the responses. It's interesting to hear the learnings from the writing contest. We have seen that themed writing contests do result in high quality articles, but you definitely need to be sure that a good number of your active editors are interested in that topic and will want to write about it! The Learning and Evaluation team did a soft launch of the writing contest toolkit today. Take a look! I'll make a note that you will be retaining the unused funds for the next month until you submit a new grant request for WLM. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 16:49, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Remaining funds reallocation
[edit]Noting here that Chris, Program Officer for the CEE region, approved a reallocation request from Wikimedia Slovakia for the remaining unused funds of 2070.62 EUR. Chris also requested a financial report on how these funds were spent and can be submitted anytime before 30 December 2023. JTud (WMF), Grants Administrator (talk) 16:52, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
Remaining funds used
[edit]Dear all. Just noting that based on discussion with Chris during the summer and fall 2022, all the remaining funds were used for the chairperson (myself) as a contractor to do administrative and coordination work. The sum of 2391.15 € was approved by WMSK's AGM on 10 February 2024. Thank you for your support.--Jetam2 (talk) 10:57, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
