GLAM Boot Camp

How many attendees you expect overal? Actually - at leas according to: w:en:Wikipedia:GLAM/Boot Camp - the number of interested attendees-volunteers is rather low. Is it going to be open meeting or you are about to select people? Polimerek (talk) 14:13, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

We haven't promoted the conference widely, since much of the attendance is based on being invited to it. The meeting is capped at 15-20 Wikimedians, selected for their high level of participation in the Wikimedia movement and their capacity to further the GLAM-Wiki mission so that they may learn more about GLAM-Wiki projects. Much of the costs are from transporting these Wikimedians from across the country. harej (talk) 00:42, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

So - I have mixed feeling about how you are about to overcome the problem defined by you and as I assume the main reason to organize a meeting: " Last year at GLAMcamp London, we identified the lack of broad community participation from different types of contributors as one of the GLAM-Wiki effort's key problems" By the way - I support the rest of the grant proposal - but I have problems to understand the idea of this in fact - closed - meeting... The problem that was identified at GLAMcamp London was that community participation in the global GLAM effort isn't very broad; while there are some specialists that regularly do GLAM outreach work, most parts of the contributor community don't get involved with GLAM. Having a defined list of attendees for this event is intended to help remedy this problem; the pool of attendees will be be selected to ensure that the event is broadly representative of all parts of the contributor community, rather than being yet another gathering of existing GLAM specialists. Further, most of the costs of the event are allocated for scholarships, to ensure that contributors who would be a good fit for the GLAM program but who may not be able to afford the expense of traveling to a GLAM event will have the opportunity to attend.

As far as the size of the event, we've kept it relatively small so that all of the attendees can receive personal, hands-on attention from the GLAM experts who will be running the workshop, rather than simply sitting in a crowd listening to someone speak. Certainly, if this event is successful in improving GLAM participation across the community, and there are more GLAM experts available to lead workshops as a result, we can consider potentially holding larger events in the future; however, we don't want to request greater funding for a larger event without having concrete evidence that this event model will produce results. Since most of the budget is going to be spent on the GLAM Boot Camp, I'd suggest the recipient to provide, if possible, line details of the planned expenses. Wiki Loves Monuments

Contest prizes are part of the U.S.-wide Wiki Loves Monuments contest, one of our most successful photo contribution drives. Wiki Loves Monuments USA was very successful in bringing in contributions to Wikimedia Commons from those who do not traditionally contribute, so we are looking forward to holding the contest again this year. harej (talk) 23:02, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

I understand that, but the way the grant is explained it feels misleading, maybe you sholud add: "The Wiki Loves Monuments-related line items in the budget are to cover the management of the event and purchase the prizes". Request for extension

I would like to request an extension of this grant to 31 December 2013. The current project end date is 30 September; however, payout of prizes and the finalists reception for the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest will take place after this date since the contest takes place during the month of September. Request for report extension

I would like to request an extension for submitting the grant report. Currently the report is due by March 1; I would like this extended to March 31. We are in the midst of preparing the report, and we have done a lot of work on it so far in our drafting space, but we are conducting an evaluation of projects funded by this grant. This evaluation includes surveying participants of past projects and learning about what we can do to better design and carry out future projects. We believe this evaluation will provide a more insightful report, but it will require some extra time. harej (talk) 21:29, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
