Proposed participation

[edit]

I am highly active Wikipedian since 2003. I am experienced in giving Wikipedia oriented talks and lectures. I cooperate with Magioladitis on gender gap issues and we organised a workshop last year.

The results of our work were written in a paper "Wikipedia in education as a tool to reduce gender inequalities" (original title:"Η Wikipedia στην εκπαίδευση ως εργαλείο άμβλυνσης των φυλετικών ανισοτήτων").

Our paper was accepted at the 2nd National Conference to Promote Educational Innovation with International Participation. The conference is organized by the Scientific Association for the Promotion of Educational Innovation (E.E.P.E.K.) in collaboration with the University of Thessaly (Department of Education, Early Childhood Education and Special Education) and the Technological Educational Institution of Thessaly (Economics and Management School).

Goal and expected impact

[edit]

We expect to raise awareness of use of Wikipedia in Education and gender gap. It is an effort to encourage more educators and teachers to use Wikipedia in school projects and explain the benefits of it. This will also help educators guide their students to improve articles. The fact that in most schools at least half of the students are female, and assignments can be on subjects that are of interest for all genders, will benefit Wikipedia bridging the gender gap. We expect that raising the interest of educators in formal education will create a movement of implementing wikipedia assignments within the existing curriculum of many courses. The paper will be published in the minutes of the conference, available for free (so the potential audience is even wider than the actual participants).

Budget breakdown

[edit]

We have decided that we do not need to be both of us in the conference in order to cut travelling expenses and avoid personal burnout. Unfortunately the conference organisers ask for registration from all authors of a paper, so we cannot avoid the registration fee for Magioladitis.

  • Accommodation: 0 €
  • Transportation: 64 €
  • Per diem: 1 x 30 €
  • Registration fee: 2 x 30 = 60 €

Other instructions

[edit]
  • I will carry with me handouts that we have already printed through a previous PEG, and some more dedicated to educators.

Endorsements

[edit]
  • Endorse As the second author of this paper, I fully agree that we should be on this Conference and promote Wikipedia to educators and raise awareness on gender gap. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:29, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
