Assessment questions

The following questions are the primary questions from which your application will be assessed. We are eager to read good insights with supportive links.

If a person walked up to you and asked you, “What is Wikimedia?” what would you respond? We are looking to understand how you engage outsiders around Wikimedia. Why is the Wikimedia mission important for the world? How does it work? Why should they care? One paragraph answer is recommended. Please support any references to your own work with links where possible.
How long have you been involved with the Wikimedia project or its movement? Clearly state the duration of your involvement, whether it's in months or years. This provides a straightforward answer to the question. If you've made notable contributions or participated in specific activities within the Wikimedia project or movement, briefly mention them. One paragraph answer is recommended. This inquiry is designed to evaluate your acquaintance with the Wikimedia project, whether you are a newcomer or a seasoned, long-term volunteer.
Tell us about your recent involvement in your home wiki or the broader Wikimedia movement. What have you built or contributed to in order to improve your wiki or community? Have you led or organized any of these activities? Which activity mattered the most to you personally, regardless of outcome? Please indicate which of these activities took place in the last 12 months. For this question we are mostly assessing the last 12 months of involvement and activities, so please be intentional to underline these. If necessary, you can also indicate longer-lasting activities with a history and participation in them. Two to three paragraph answer is recommended. Please support any references to your own work with links where possible.
Have you actively contributed to Wikimedia projects to foster diversity, including but not limited to language, culture, and other underrepresented aspects? If yes, please provide specific examples of your involvement in initiatives or projects that celebrate diversity within the Wikimedia community. This question is assessing the extent of your active contributions to Wikimedia projects with a focus on fostering diversity. It seeks to understand whether you have been involved in initiatives or projects that specifically address and celebrate diversity, encompassing various aspects such as language, culture, and other underrepresented elements within the Wikimedia community. The question aims to gauge your commitment and tangible efforts in promoting inclusivity and diversity within the context of Wikimedia projects.
How are you aligned with and contributing to the goals outlined in the Wikimedia Movement Strategy? We seeks to understand how your activities, efforts, and engagement within the Wikimedia community correspond with the overarching objectives and aspirations outlined in the strategic framework of the Wikimedia Movement. The question is designed to evaluate your awareness of the Movement's strategic priorities and to discern the specific ways in which you actively contribute to advancing those goals.
How do you usually share your experiences (or things you‘ve learned) with your community? Examples of on-wiki summaries, reports, blog posts, meetup talks, etc. are welcome here. This question is inquiring about your preferred methods for sharing your experiences or acquired knowledge within your community. This question aims to gain insight into your communication practices and the channels through which you actively share information and experiences within your community. A bullet point list with some explanation/context is a fine format for this response.
Why should we consider you a valued Wikimedian participant in this conference? We seeks for individuals who do not merely participate on a one-time basis but rather those who harbor long-term aspirations beyond the duration of the conference, individuals who are committed to sustained engagement and involvement, beyond just attending and then disengaging. This question is to ask you to articulate the reasons why you should be regarded as a valued participant representing the Wikimedia community in the conference. We encourages you to highlight your unique qualities, experiences, contributions, or expertise that make you a valuable and impactful member of the Wikimedia community. Your response should emphasize how your presence at the conference would contribute positively to the goals, discussions, and collaborative efforts within the Wikimedia context.
