Organizational

[edit]

During the year we finalized spending unspent funds from the in-person meeting. They were used as operational costs as well as for some competitions. During this year we also continued to collect support through the 2% of income tax plan. We wish to thank our donors. As a group, we keep meeting online bi-weekly.

Activities of the User Group

[edit]

The User Group organized the following activities during 2024:

Seniors Write Wikipedia

[edit]

During the fall of 2024, we organized the project Seniori píšu Wikipédiu (Seniors Write Wikipedia)]] in Bratislava. We showed seniors how to edit Wikipedia (and partially how to contribute to Commons) and advised them on how to proceed further. 10 people took part in the project, creating 4 articles and 147 edits. There is a possibility to continue this project in 2025.

CEE Spring 2024

[edit]

In 2024 WMSK organized the 8th Slovak round of the international CEE Spring 2024 initiative. Its goal is to increase the quality and number of articles about Central and Eastern Europe on Wikipedia. 5 editors took part between 21 March and 31 May. 38 of their articles were accepted according to the rules. In terms of the number of articles, Slovak Wikipedia placed 25th out of 29 projects. This year, the User Group supported the competition only in technical ways and there were no prizes for winners.

Wiki Loves Earth

[edit]

The Wiki miluje Zem (Wiki Loves Earth)| competition took place for the 2nd time in Slovakia. Wikimedia Commons received 487 photographs of protected areas and trees from 21 participants. Ten selected best photographs were sent to the international round. We wish to thank the CEE Hub for its support of this project.

Wikipedia Asian Month

[edit]

The 7th Ázijský mesiac Wikipédie (Wikipedia Asian Month) took place during November and December 2024 on Slovak Wikipedia. This international competition focuses on improving and extending content about Asia on Wikipedia. Wikimedians of Slovakia worked again with our partner, Wikimedia Taiwan. Wikipedia Asian Month took place between 15 November and 31 December. This year, there were two competitions: one about Taiwan specifically with 2 editors and 6 articles taking part and one about Asian generally which had 7 editors with 23 articles took part. In total 8 editors (one took part in both) took part and created 29 articles.
