Wikimedia merchandise/Design ideas
Variety
[edit]Maybe offer the buttons in a 2 inch size or different pen colors or types of back backs. I realize this is a new thing, but just some expansion ideas that are minor but people may appreciate.
Also maybe some bumper stickers that say with the "I edit Wikipedia" thing, I could see somebody loving one of those.
How about a coffee/tea mug with the Wikimedia logo on it. I'd prefer a white mug but any color would probably be ok.
Non-Wikipedia Merchandise
[edit]We already have some non-wikipedia merchandise on order but I wonder what other ideas people have (we know we want some shirts etc). One thought I had was something similar to the 'I edit Wikipedia' shirts (see side) we have on the store now (a series for all the projects ). Jalexander (talk) 04:23, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- What are the practical limitations on printing given the supplier? For example, what's the printable area, what's the practical limit for print colours, and how stiff is the resulting print (relevant for larger designs)? I don't know a great deal about the process (perhaps some of these questions are silly) but it strikes me that some designs might not be practical if they run into restrictions like these. :) Thanks, Nihiltres(t.u) 16:08, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- On the main talk page there was a suggestion, by Nihiltres, for "I proofread Wikisource" and "I upload on Commons". For Wikisource, I think "transcribe" might be a more accurate. Either "I transcribe Wikisource" or "I transcribe on Wikisource". As for other "I [verb] [project]" ideas, maybe:
- Commons: I curate [Wikimedia] Commons
- Wikispecies: I taxonomise Wikispecies; I collate Wikispecies
- Wikibooks: I write Wikibooks
- Wiktionary: I define Wiktionary; I compile Wiktionary
- Wikinews: I report Wikinews
- Wikiquote: I collect Wikiquote; I collate Wikiquote; I compile Wikiquote
- Wikisource: I transcribe Wikisource; I curate Wikisource
- Wikiversity: I teach at Wikiversity
- I'm entirely sure about some (especially Wikiquote) but maybe they'll inspire someone to come up with something better. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 15:50, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

- It would really be great to have some merchandise for Commons photographers. There are quite a few of us out there, and unlike Wikipedians, most of us have to do part of what we do out in public, so having some kind of a Commons photographer shirt would be very nice - maybe even helpful to look professional on events that require accreditation. For photography, I would cosider it to be ideal for any clothing of that kind to be somewhat dark, as that's helpful in some photography scenarios (esp. events/concerts). Featured content apparel
[edit]This is not a fully formed idea but T-shirts and other apparel featuring featured content might work. I thought of this from a Wikisource point of view but it should work for the other projects too. For Wikisource, I was thinking of a T-shirt with an extract from a featured work on the front, possibly with an appropriate image or illustration, and "Read more at Wikisource" (with logo and URL) on the back. "Read more" here meaning both "read more of this particular work" and just "read more in general." (The front and back content could also be switched around.) - AdamBMorgan (talk) 15:58, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
How about a wall calendar?
[edit]A 2013 wall calendar featuring finalists of Commons' Picture of the Year competition would be awesome. For example, a "best of" calendar might use the following pictures:
-
January (2006 #1)
-
February (2007 #3)
-
March (2009 #1)
-
April (2010 #3)
-
May (2009 #3)
-
June (2010 #2)
-
July (2011 #2)
-
August (2008 #1)
-
September (2007 #2)
-
October (2008 #1)
-
November (2011 #1)
-
December(2010 #1)
There are certainly enough finalists to make other themed calendars, such as nature, space, animals, etc. Antony-22 (talk) 03:58, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- This is a wonderful idea! Especially considering that the Wikimedia movement as a whole already has some experience with producing calendars with its contents, and that the costs of producing calendars (including design and production costs) are rather small (those WLM calendars cost about 2 US$ per item, as far as I remember). odder (talk) 10:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- I went ahead and made the above calendar and an animals-themed one, and uploaded them at File:Best of Commons 2013.pdf and File:Best of Commons Animals 2013.pdf. Let me know what you think! Antony-22 (talk) 05:58, 22 December 2012 (UTC)
CN tag
[edit]A [citation needed] tag badge, about 1~2 cm in height, preferably blue(the more common linked version) so that whatever shirt people tag it to, it becomes a wikipedia themed shirt.(it'd be fun to tag it on a I edit wikipedia shirt, but equally fun on almost any shirt with words) Mythsearcher (talk) 20:33, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
T-shirt idea
[edit]A t-shirt with this userbox
Design here User:Nathan121212/userboxes/t-shirt
I’d love to offer my services for wiki shirt designs, as a wiki fan! liliuhms.com instagram.com/liliuhms
Wikivoyage
[edit]It'd be nice to get the Wikivoyage logo into the lapel pin set and on the backpacks. LtPowers (talk) 01:13, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Pins, buttons and stickers were addressed here ("we should have the pins, buttons, and stickers with all project logos within a few months") but no word on https://shop.wikimedia.org/collections/travel 2001:5C0:1000:A:0:0:0:1355 17:47, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Boldly honest shirt idea
[edit]I've admired the swell “I Edit Wikipedia” T-shirts. For many of us, though, such shirts would tell only part of the story. How about adding this more forthright version?:
I Edit Wikipedia because I have nothing
better to do
Thanks! – AndyFielding (talk) 11:26, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia car emblem idea
[edit]Something I would like to see is a 5 inch (12.7 cm) wide car emblem (see examples of other car emblems), which generally come with tape backings or magnetic backings for placement on the rear of a vehicle.
Several would be possible (these examples are not exhaustive):
- Wikipedia Globe only
- WikipediA text only
- Wikipedia Globe with WikipediA text
Just some food for thought. John Shandy` (talk) 02:50, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
3D Puzzle Globe
[edit]I would love to buy a 3D puzzle globe. These guys made a very large one. It could be:
- A paper weight
- A jigsaw puzzle
- A desk ornament
I think all editors should have one!

Wikivoyage Sticker
[edit]Sticker to place on luggage. To promote the site in the physical world as we travel.
Would also like to consider a grant to allow free distribution to editors of Wikivoyager.
If we make such a sticker available what costs are we looking at? Prices by volume and shipping?
--Traveler100 (talk) 01:37, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- What do you think about making one that is specific to each year's Wikimania destination (e.g., "Italy", maybe using a photo from near the specific town)? WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:32, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- At the moment I think a general one that does not go out of date should be created. However as no one has answered about costs then it is irrelevant conversation. Does not appear this project is still active. --Traveler100 (talk) 06:00, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
T-shirt in one's chosen language
[edit]Wikipedia's comprehensive list of articles in 293 languages is proof to the fact that almost every major spoken language has its fingerprint in Wikipedia. So there could be an option to buy a t-shirt with "Wikipedia" printed on the front in their selected language. And at the back there could be "the globe" printed. This way it's both trendsetting as well as revealing of how the word "Wikipedia" looks like when written in different languages of the world.
Example: Wikipedia T-shirt in the Odia language.
Fighting misinformation
[edit]I think having a design that says "I fight misinformation by editing Wikipedia" would be a fantastic idea. I like the "I edit wikipedia" shirt, but I think one that says why I do it or what I think the best effect of that would be. Perhaps it could be a series? With "I expand global access to free, quality information by editing wikipedia"? I guess that's a bit of a long phrase. Thoughts welcome! A. C. Santacruz (talk) 21:21, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
