Amar Ekushey Article Contest

The Amar Ekushey Article Contest 2022 was organized this year, starting on 01 February and it ended on 31 March, aiming at improving the quality of existing articles on Bengali Wikipedia. A list was created mainly from the stub article category. There are many articles on Bengali Wikipedia with no significant information, but the importance of those articles is indisputable as they are some really fundamental topics. It has been a long-term community desire to organize something like this. Through this contest, articles on different areas including science, technology, biography, environment, philosophy, etc. are chosen and improved. Articles like Twitter, History of Malaysia, Tomato etc. were improved through this contest. In the week of International Women’s day, a new category was added and the participants improved the articles like Woman, Liberal feminism, Women's studies etc.

The contest was not easy, as individual participants had to translate on an average 4,400 words for a article into Bengali; but considering various aspects, it was much needed to ensure the quality of these articles. A total of 205 articles from 87 contributors got improved in the whole contest. According to the rules of the contest, contributors need to translate the whole article from English to Bengali; and following them, a total of 106 articles got accepted and 4,66,590 words was added. The articles were reviewed by the experienced Wikipedians and further checked by the organizing team.

Wikimania Bangladesh 2022

Wikimania Bangladesh 2022 was a gathering of Wikimedians of Bangladesh after a long time. It was a day long program, took place 12 August in Dhaka. Veteran Wikimedians, relatively newer Wikimedians, Wikimedians from different ethnicities and gender, foundation staff, Wikimedians from other affiliates, and WMF staff participated there. The conference presents and discusses social and technical aspects of Wikimedia projects.

Edit-a-thons

Bangla Wikipedia edit-a-thon at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro

A day long off-line Bangla Wikipedia edit-a-thon took place at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dhaka on 17 June. Participants were mainly contributed to develop Gender gap and Science related articles.

WikiMeetup in Mymensingh

• January: Mymensingh Wikipedia Community organized their first meetup on 15 January. On this meetup WIkipedians from Mymensingh participated to discuss regarding the formation of a Wikipedia Community in their region.

• March: Second online meetup took place on 02 March.

• September: Third online meetup took place on 18 September. In this meetup they finalized the Coordinating Committee of the Community.

WikiMeetup in Chattogram

• June: Wikimedia Bangladesh organized an offline meetup on 11 June in Chattogram. On this meetup WIkipedians from Dhaka and Chattogram participated to discuss regarding the activity of Chottogram Wikipedia Community.

Photowalk

• Mymensingh: Mymensingh Wikipedia community arranged two Wikipedia photowalks during the month of June and December in Mymensingh and Netrokona. Wikimedians from Mymensingh community took part in the photowalks.
