Instructions

[edit]

For candidates

[edit]
  • The steering committee will contain 8 members so it can effectively make decisions and hold meetings.
  • Only Wikimedia and Libraries User Group members are eligible to be nominated. Members may nominate themselves.
  • Steering committee members would serve in their personal capacities and not represent the organisations they work for, if any.
  • The committee members would serve for a term of one year.
  • The position would require an average of 10 hours per month and attending a majority of conference calls with the committee. Nominees are strongly urged to consider if they have the time to devote to serving in a steering committee role.
  • Conference calls will be held monthly, and will be set once the steering committee membership has been set.
  • Nominees should indicate what role they would like to fill on the steering committee. Roles can be held by multiple steering committee members (it is considered beneficial to have two people in each position).
    • Chair/convener: responsible for posting meeting agenda, chairing steering committee meetings
    • Secretary: responsible for posting minutes, updating Wiki pages, pinging user group members.
    • Social media: responsible for Twitter account, contributing to Facebook Wikimedia + Libraries. Makes sure work of this group and related work is promoted on social media.
    • Affcom / Wikimedia representative: responds to requests from Affcom, makes sure reports are drafted and submitted in a timely manner.

For voters

[edit]
  • Only the members of the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group are eligible to vote.
  • Voters must join the usergroup by 28 February 2019 for their vote to count.
  • You can vote support for multiple candidates, but only one vote per candidate. Oppose votes are not allowed, although discussion can happen on the talk page.

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Nominations

[edit]

Looking to help share and support Wikimedia in all its forms to all communities, with focus on AfroCrowd mission to increase participation throughout the African Diaspora. This is a good time to be a librarian, with many skills to manage and lots of opportunity to connect locally and globally. Self-nomination also, and happy to serve where best needed.

Looking to spread free and alternative ways of collaboration between Wikimedians and Libraries all over the world and to ameliorate the status of the Wikimedia and Libraries user group within the worldwide community of wikimedians, I nominate myself for the position of Affcom / Wikimedia representative. As a volunteer in the Wikimedia and Libraries User Group, I served for two years as an Arabic TWL Coordinator and I co-founded a Tunisian chapter of the group: GLAM Section of Wikimedia TN User Group. I was also awarded the Wikipedia Library Star Coordinator for the quarter of July–September 2017 thanks to my work with Mr. Houssem Abida and Ms. Zeineb Takouti among others on digitalizing old books and providing access to them to the active participants of the projects of Wikimedia TN User Group. Due to my experience, I think that I can be useful and creative if elected to this position.

Self-nominating for the role of co-chair. I'd like to continue with the work I have already done as a member of the steering committee, and am most interested in how we can establish a series of recurring monthly virtual meetings for our geographically distributed user group. I have been an advocate for how Wikimedia projects and libraries can support one another and am curious to explore how this plays out globally, and to find ways to support true global engagement. I can affirm that I do have the time to devote to this group.

Would like to represent a research university librarian's perspective on the steering committee, focusing on topics like student and faculty engagement, using Wikimedia platforms to advance digital literacy, collaboration with subject librarians and special collections staff, and outreach to regional communities. I have particular interests in fostering the use of Wikidata for scholarly communications at colleges and universities. I'd be happy to serve as a liaison to Affcom/Wikimedia, though I'd need guidance about how to carry out that role effectively.

Using my experience in teaching Wikipedia skill.s as part of master degree in LIS studies, I would like to promote the topic of leading librarians in taking a pro-active role in Wikimedia initiatives. I'm also interested in finding a sustainable model in which libraries as GLAM organizations can incorporate Wikimedia activities and content contribution as part of their mission.

Self-nominating here for the role on Social media handler as i will be leveraging on my social media handling experience to further maximize the full impacts of the usergroups on social media and extended networks. Also been a member of the steering committee will present me the opportunity to support local librarians and sustain the already progress in local libraries.

A bibliophile, I run a "free and open" library at my village home (drawing about 30-40 children each day and a few seniors) since World Book Day (April 23) 2018. This unfunded library is run on only donations of pre-owned books and personal resources. Since 2007, I have been into alternate community book publishing (aimed at open space for people in our small region to get into print). Am also a long-time supporter of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), Open Knowledge, Open Access. Have also been a journalist since 1983, and have written on technology, many book reviews, etc Took part in TWLCON (2019 India) of The Wikipedia Library https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/TWLCon_(2019_India) and have been a contributor to the English Wikipedia since circa 2006. Also helped get the Konkani Wikipedia [1] into incubation. As a scholarship recipient at WCI 2016, TTT 2017 and Wikigraphists Bootcamp (2018 India), I anticipate that my fair knowledge of Wikipedians across India could help in this work. So could the languages known which include English (fluent), Hindi and Konkani (fair), Marathi (can understand), Portuguese and German (beginner's level only), which could help one act as a point of contact for developing links between libraries and the Indic communities ecosystem. Have founded and runs the Goa Libraries Network on WhatsApp with approx 168 members, including librarians. Appointed as a member in Feb 2018 on the Goa State Libraries Committee, which aims to shape policy for India's smallest federal state. If entrusted, I am willing to take up the responsibility of managing or helping with the social media accounts, as I've been active in the social media space since the mid-1990s. Also willing to help the secretary in his/her tasks.

Self-nomination. I would like to share the chair/convener role. Primarily a Wikidata editor and particularly focused on editing related to library collections, open access research papers and libraries. My dream is for every library to have a Wikidata item which can be used for advocacy and to help lower the barrier for libraries to start contributing and sharing their content in the Wikimedia projects. This also has the potential to help increase the online visibility of a library, for example, in Google knowledge panels. I have a general interest in the role of libraries in society and especially how libraries can promote and uphold social values such as inclusion, diversity and equality. I am willing to commit time to fulfill the required duties and I can use flexible working arrangements participate in meetings that fall with my working hours.
