Wikimedia Ghana User Group / Ghanaian Wikimedia Community Awards

The Ghanaian Wikimedia Community Awards is an award that recognizes and celebrates individuals, groups, and initiatives that have made remarkable contributions to the Wikimedia movement in Ghana. This award acknowledges the dedication and efforts of community members in advancing open knowledge and promoting Wikimedia projects across the country.

Award Categories

Ghanaian Contributor of the Year

This award recognizes a dedicated individual from Ghana who has made remarkable contributions to any of the Wikimedia wikis in any language throughout the year. The recipient must be an active editor—editing at least five times per month—and demonstrate a consistent effort in editing any of the Wikimedia wikis. This category celebrates those who improve the Wikimedia wikis through their edits—after all, contributions are the lifeblood of our projects.

Ghanaian Organizer of the Year

This award honors a Ghanaian community member who has excelled in organizing Wikimedia-related activities and supporting contributors to these activities. The winner will have played a vital role in planning and executing events, workshops, or campaigns that advance Wikimedia’s mission. While the focus is on organiser impact, the recipient themselves should also be an active editor on any Wikimedia project, contributing in any language.

Ghanaian Community of the Year

This award recognizes a Ghanaian Wikimedia community (user group or groups with no affiliate status including local hubs and school clubs etc) that has demonstrated exceptional teamwork, collaboration, and impact. The community must have shown consistent participation in Wikimedia activities, fostered inclusivity, and supported members in becoming active editors. Their collective efforts should have made significant contributions to any of the Wikimedia projects in any language.

Ghanaian Project of the Year

This award celebrates an outstanding Wikimedia project led or significantly influenced by members of the Ghanaian Wikimedia community. The winning project should have achieved notable success in promoting Wikimedia’s goals, engaging participants, and producing measurable outcomes. Projects involving active editors who contribute in any of the Wikimedia platforms, and in any language of their choice, are especially commended.

Ghanaian Newcomer of the Year

This award highlights a new member of the Ghanaian Wikimedia community who has quickly established themselves as an active contributor. Eligible nominees must have joined the Wikimedia movement within the past year and consistently edited at least five times per month. They should have contributed to any Wikimedia project of their choice, regardless of the language they edit in, and demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment, and potential for long-term impact.

Eligibility

Nominated individuals should not have been banned on any of the Wikimedia projects and should be known to adhere to the Universal Code of Conduct and other friendly space policies.
Projects should have published reports demonstrating the said impact
