Statement	Wiki projects run on humans. There's human overhead involved in growing our community that is largely overlooked, or not dealt with at all. Most volunteers are here because they enjoy editing wikis, not because they are equipped to deal with growth processes. While the WMF has expanded in areas tangential to the movement, it has left the core aspect of building, growing, nurturing, and supporting this community largely to the volunteer community itself. I want to change that, and make the WMF's primary focus be to directly support the community by providing services that are necessary to grow and maintain healthy quality projects and the communities that come with them. Actions Helping improve the tools editors use for patrolling (such as Snuggle) Educating new volunteers on how the community works (both by proactive outreach and by developing guides and documentation centered around readability and usability) Using a results-based approach to measure and improve the efficacy of the above Helping readers make suggestions to editors in a more productive manner Establishing and sharing success criteria for software and interface changes prior to beginning work on the changes All of the above would be done in conjunction with the volunteers who do these activities now, and would be seen as hired-hands for relief, and not to supplant current community practices.
