Election notice

Hello Everyone,
The 2007 election process for the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation will begin on June 10, 2007. Wikimedians will have the opportunity to choose three individuals to represent Wikimedia contributors from around the world. The three successful candidates will be elected to the Board of Trustees for two-year terms expiring in June 2009. Members of the Board of Trustees are entrusted with the ultimate decision-making authority for the Wikimedia Foundation.
The election will use approval voting through the dedicated software (now being discussed), Boardvote interface. Prior to the voting phase will be an endorsement phase, in which each candidate will need to obtain a specific number of endorsements supporting their candidacy. For the final voting, each voter will be allowed to vote for as many of the candidates as he or she wishes. The candidate(s) with the most votes will be declared elected. In the event of a tie, a run-off election will be announced.
Voting will be by secret ballot (we will not publicly list which candidates you supported). The counting of votes will be conducted by an outside third-party organization now being contacted, Software in the Public Interest.
Candidates
Interested candidates should complete an entry form on Meta between 00:00, June 10, 2007 (UTC) and 23:59 June 23, 2007 (UTC). Late entries will not be allowed. To be accepted as a candidate, you must meet three requirements:
1. You must have been a contributor to at least one Wikimedia project for one year prior to June 1, 2007, as indicated by the date of the registered username's first edit, and must have completed at least 400 edits with the same account on the same project by June 1, 2007.
2. You must make your real name known and must be at least 18 years of age. (Because the identities of Board members are a matter of public record, it is not possible to hold a position on the Board of Trustees anonymously or under a pseudonym.)
3. You must obtain at least the required number of endorsements from eligible voters. Endorsements must be placed by the endorsers on the dedicated page during the candidate acceptance period.
Candidates will have up to two weeks to present themselves to the rest of the Wikimedia community through a candidate statement. Translation coordinators will translate the candidate statements into a number of languages before the beginning of the election. Candidates are advised that the earlier they submit their statements, the more likely that their statements will be translated into multiple languages before the start of the voting period.
Voters
To be eligible to vote, a user must have been a contributor to at least one Wikimedia project for three months prior to June 1, 2007 (that is, by March 1, 2007), as indicated by the date of the user's first edit, and must have completed at least 400 edits with the same account by June 1, 2007. Tools for checking your edit count can be found at en:Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters.
Voters may endorse up to three candidates. Candidates may make endorsements of two candidates other than themselves. Further instructions regarding endorsements can be found at endorsement page.
Users may not combine edits from different projects to reach the threshold of 400 required for voting eligibility: they must have 400 on a single project, and for voting and endorsing, the first edit with that account must have been made not less than three months before June 1, 2007; for candidacy, less than 1 year before June 1, 2007.
Even if you meet the requirement to vote from several projects, you may only vote with one of the accounts.

Voting eligibility is expanded
Hello,
based on our recent discussions, in response to inquiries of people
who have been working hard for the project but not meet the voting
eligibility based on edit counts, and with the approval of the Wikimedia Board
of Trustees, the Election Committee hereby announces expansion of voting
eligibility to people in one of these categories:
A) Sysadmin: System administrators will be granted voting elgibility on request, if they had shell access to the Wikimedia servers prior to March 1, 2007 and have put in more than 50 hours in total before June 1, 2007. To request for granting vote, they should entry their name on a dedicated page on meta, Board elections/2007/Voting eligibility expansion.
B) Office staff: Staff who are working at the office of Wikimedia Foundation will be granted voting eligibility, if they worked for the Wikimedia Foundation in this manner prior to March 1, 2007. To request for granting vote, they should entry their name on a dedicated page on meta, Board elections/2007/Voting eligibility expansion.
C) Board of Trustees: All current Trustees (either elected or appointed) sitting on the Board of Trustees are defined to be eligible to vote.
We hope this will give the opportunity to vote to these members of the
broader community.
Sincerely,
Wikimedia Board Election Steering Committee, 09:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Mail for disqualified voters
Hello [username],
Thank you for your interest in the Wikimedia Board Election. The Election Committee regretfully informs you that your previous vote was received in error and will be struck according to the election rules, described below.
The Election Committee regretfully announces today that we will have to remove approximately 220 votes submitted. These votes were cast by people not entitled to vote. The election rules state that users must have at least 400 edits by March 1 to be eligible to vote.
The voter lists we sent to Software in the Public Interest (our third party election partner) initially were wrong, and one of your account was eventually included to our initial list. There was a bug in the edit counting program and the sent list contained every account with 201 or more edits, instead of 400 or more edits. So large numbers of people were qualified according to the software who shouldn't be. The bug has been fixed and an amended list was sent to SPI already.
Our first (and wrong) list contains 80,458 accounts as qualified. The proper number of qualified voters in the SPI list is now 52,750. As of the morning of July 4 (UTC), there are 2,773 unique voters and 220 people, including you, have voted who are not qualified based upon this identified error.
In accordance with voting regulations the Election Committee will strike those approximately 220 votes due to lack of voting eligibility. The list of struck votes is available at https://wikimedia.spi-inc.org/index.php/List_of_struck_votes.
We are aware of the possibility that some of the people affected may have other accounts with more than 400 edits, and hence may still be eligible to vote. We encourage you to consider voting again from another account, if you have one. If you have no other account eligible to vote, we hope you reach the criteria in the next Election, and expect to see your participation to the future Elections.
Your comments, questions or messages to the Committee would be appreciated, you can make them at Talk:Board elections/2007/en. Other language versions are available at Translation requests/Eleccom mail, 07-05.
Again, we would like to deeply apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely, [sign]
