International Relations with the Taliban article
Hi, I'm an avid researcher of Middle Eastern Affairs, specifically in Afghanistan and Iran, and recently a second country accepted Taliban credentials, which would need an update on the table section of this article.

I don't know how to do it myself, and was wondering if anyone can add the United Arab Emirates alongside China to the table that shows which countries have accepted Taliban credentials for diplomatic recognition

Changes to be made on multiple protected pages
I want to add categories to certain pages that are protected (and therefore not editable). Where do I go to make my requests? Berdea (talk) 10:19, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Use Template:Edit Protected on the associated talk page. — xaosflux Talk 12:42, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

It is requested that edits be made to the following semi-protected articles:
This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".
The edit may be made by any autoconfirmed user. Remember to change the |
- I personally don't see the need for a formal use of that template, but you haven't even specified the pages right now so there's nothing anyone can do. Also Meta:RFH would be a better venue for this. * Pppery * it has begun 23:31, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Certainly not required, but this seems like a very low urgency sort of thing that a patrolling admin can get to when they get to it. — xaosflux Talk 01:42, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

Outlook.com Changes for $wgSMTP
Since the 16.September 2024 Outlook changes the acces to his smtp - Server. In reason of that that Mediawiki not using a modern authentification method, the wikimedia mail is not more working.
Here the Local-Settings: $wgSMTP = [
'host' => 'smtp-mail.outlook.com', // could also be an IP address. Where the SMTP server is located 'IDHost' => 'Sokradia von CC-Zeitlos', // Generally this will be the domain name of your website (aka mywiki.org) 'port' => 587, // Port to use when connecting to the SMTP server 'auth' => true, // Should we use SMTP authentication (true or false) 'username' => 'sokradia*hotmail.com', // Username to use for SMTP authentication (if being used) 'password' => 'XXX' // Password to use for SMTP authentication (if being used)
];
And here the errors that occured since the 16. September:
authentication failure [SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 535, response: 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, basic authentication is disabled. [PR3P189CA0058.EURP189.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM 2024-10-07T07:53:05.798Z 08DCE666E4CD2C8E])]
IS there somebody who canb solve this issues?
Thanks Gerard (talk) 07:54, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Sokradia is the problem that your own private installation of mediawiki software is having a problem sending email to a domain? Or are you saying that WMF's production system is having a problem sending email to a domain? — xaosflux Talk 10:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- I don't understand your answer, Sorry.
- I know only before the 16/09/2024 this mail was working. Outlook changed something on here outlook server so that via MediaWiki the email function is not working. Mediawiki use SMTP and STARTTL.
- I'm getting as an answer that this maybe will be an OAUTH-issue which, it looks like, will be not supported by the Mediawiki.
- I use this Email-Adress also with a Software Named EM-Client on my PC. There is working correctly and i nothing configured
- in this software for OAUTH. 2A01:E0A:155:DD80:0:0:B498:2708 10:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Which of these problems are you seeing:
- When you try to send wikimail from our server, it is not working
- When you try to send wikimail from your mediawiki powered server it is not working

- Typo, yes - kept getting tripped on on the original poster. Which back to the OP: this is the wrong forum in any event. If this is a problem with your server see the link at the top of the page where to ask for software help. If you think there is a problem with our servers we need more details. — xaosflux Talk 23:01, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Preliminary results of the 2024 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees elections
Hello all,
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election. Close to 6000 community members from more than 180 wiki projects have voted.
The following four candidates were the most voted:
While these candidates have been ranked through the vote, they still need to be appointed to the Board of Trustees. They need to pass a successful background check and meet the qualifications outlined in the Bylaws. New trustees will be appointed at the next Board meeting in December 2024.
Learn more about the results on Meta-Wiki.
Best regards,
The Elections Committee and Board Selection Working Group

Fixing erroneous information across multiple languages
A user at en help desk advised this might be a place to ask. As stated at the help desk, an erroneous name spreaded presumably from enwiki to multiple other pages on other language wikis, a list that I made can be found here. If there is a better place to ask, please direct me there, otherwise, I would like to ask for assistance from editors of those wikis to help fix the erroneous information, thank you. 103.66.132.62 12:17, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- It sounds like you know what is wrong, and what needs to be done to fix it? If so, just go make the changes - these are wiki's after all. — xaosflux Talk 12:45, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Main problem is that I don't speak those languages, so it is very difficult to do some of the changes myself.(for example on ar and fa, also I don't know what would be a proper translation in those languages, some pages needs to be moved, etc.) 103.66.132.62 12:50, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
