How to get sysop status on beta.wmflabs projects?

How do you get it when there's no RFA there, or indeed any status, be it sysop, bureaucrat, steward, oversight? If it's not a permanent community, surely it's okay to ask for that there? --Grundlehouzzing02000 (talk) 09:20, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Call for Election Volunteers

Greetings,

The Movement Strategy and Governance team is looking for community members to serve as election volunteers in the upcoming Board of Trustees election.

The idea of the Election Volunteer Program came up during the 2021 Wikimedia Board of Trustees Election. This program turned out to be successful. With the help of Election Volunteers, we were able to increase outreach and participation in the election by 1,753 voters over 2017. Overall turnout was 10.13%, 1.1 percentage points more, and 214 wikis were represented in the election.

But a total of 74 wikis that did not participate in 2017 produced voters in the 2021 election. Can you help change the participation?

Election volunteers will help in the following areas:

  • Translate short messages and announce the ongoing election process in community channels
  • Optional: Monitor community channels for community comments and questions

Volunteers should:

  • Maintain the friendly space policy during conversations and events
  • Present the guidelines and voting information to the community in a neutral manner

Do you want to be an election volunteer and ensure your community is represented in the vote? Sign up here to receive updates. You can use the talk page for questions about translation.

Best regards,

Movement Strategy and Governance

Movement Strategy Implementation Grant for the creation of an all-purpose file tool

Hello! I'll be developing an all-purpose file tool that includes the feature to detect potential copyright-violating images that also appear on the Internet. I thought it would be a good idea to request a Movement Strategy Implementation Grant from the Wikimedia Foundation. You can find more information about the scope of the tool and the grant on m:Grants:Project/MSIG/EpicPupper/Fortuna. Feel free to leave comments, questions, suggestions, or ideas on the grant talk page, and endorsements or offers to translate or localize the tool in the relevant sections. Thanks! Technical help

Hello! Can someone help me block this page from being recreated in my homewiki? It's an autopromoting article lacking notability with no serious sources. I tried salting the title and even putting it on Mediawiki:Titleblacklist but it still gets created somehow. Can someone check if I've done the Titleblacklist part correct and tell me as a SqWiki admin what else can I do (and why salting isn't working)? - Klein Muçi (talk) 14:43, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Are you sure it's not working? When I look at it logged-out, it shows me the titleblacklist error message. And you first protected the page only after the last edit, so that should work too. --MF-W 15:17, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
I've reprotected the same title 3 times now and it still got created. That's why I went to the titleblacklist and the page I've posted here is after I had gone there. I find my words hard to believe as well because it makes no sense technically-wise, so I can't really say I'm sure, but... If you think everything is alright, I'm just deleting again and hoping for the best. - Klein Muçi (talk) 16:38, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
Aaand, no. It doesn't work. The page got recreated again twice. Here and here. We really need to find a way to stop this cat and mouse game. - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:17, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi: You don't need the second + in .*Ali+ +Sabri.*. All whitespaces and underscores are automatically collapsed into one space by MediaWiki. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 09:29, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh, better now? - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:33, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi: Worse, I'm afraid. You don't need the second +, but you do need the space (optionally, append a ?). NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 09:35, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, fixed. :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:38, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi: I have just saw a note that says The title "Ali Sabri (foobar)" has been banned from creation when trying to create the page. That being said, this can be marked as resolved. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 09:43, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
I hope this was the actual problem and now is fixed. Thank you! :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:45, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Information about paid translation

Hello! I am an administrator on sc.wiki, and I have a doubt about a specific kind of paid editing. A user that is being paid through a project made by a few Sardinian municipalities, and financed by the Italian law for preservation of Minority Languages (the 482/99), to create material in Sardinian language has translated the Italian article for a Sardinian municipality into Sardinian, and posted it on sc.wiki. He was not asked by anyone to do it, even if he did it in the hours he was paid for, and disclosed it in the notes. It's that necessary for edits like that? I don't know if such a project could be equated to the situation that is described here for GLAM workers, where it says that they don't need to disclose it if they were not told to do specific edits. He was not told to work on Wikipedia at all, actually, just to do stuff in Sardinian. It looks like the same situation to me.--L2212 (talk) 23:24, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

@L2212: If they have already disclosed that they were paid, and that their contributions are not promotional by nature (i.e. spam), I think there's nothing to worry about. While it is true that they don't need to, they should also be more than welcomed to disclose any conflicts of interest. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 03:18, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Ok, thank you very much! L2212 (talk) 17:01, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Administrator problem in Uyghur Wikipedia

Hello, in Uyghur Wikipedia is only one administrator which is years ago not active. In Uyghur Wikipedia are vandalism in many pages. I did suggested myself as administrator but there is no one who did vote (there is actually no correctly active user) ug:Wikipedia:Administrators. Please help me, we need administrator. TayfunEt. (talk) 14:54, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

@TayfunEt.: I'm afraid that "admin" is the abuse filter. If your RfA has already been opened for 7 days, just ask at SRP. A steward will then grant you adminship should no problems arise. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 15:20, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
@TayfunEt. ugwiki is also supported by the Global sysops, you can ask for specific help for ugwiki at Steward requests/Miscellaneous. — xaosflux Talk 15:25, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

@Xaosflux: and @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh: Thanks from the informations! TayfunEt. (talk) 21:28, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

Proposing a new WikiProject for E-books publishing. E-books should evolve and embrace data such as pictures, videos, tables, graphs, linked data, in line references, (wikilinks/hyperlinks). Basically E-books written using the Wiki Markup Language using a new MediaWiki platform. Books are written and look like they did 150 years ago and a lot has changed since then.

Threats from IPs

I have main ID in ta.wiki and I do contribute other wiki projects such as en,wiki, commons, etc. Also, I am sysop in ta.wiki. I encounter a new issue/threat from IPs such as 117.246.112.204, 117.202.255.143, 117.209.251.234, 117.209.140.46, 117.209.138.244, etc. These IPs target me and other 3 admins and a user. IPs tries to connect with me and other users with terrorist activities and use very uncivilized words, harassment and personal attack. It happens for more than 2 months. We could block those IPs only with zero tolerance and don't overlook legal threats. But, the attack continues from other IPs. Does blocking IP range prevent such threat, and does it affect other users since the IPs are dynamic IPs? Is there more effective way? Does Wikimedia foundation take any step to stop legal threats, harassment and personal attack? --AntanO 03:45, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

@AntanO: Hi, this sounds like a problem for the Trust and Safety team. Please submit your report by emailing ca@wikimedia.org. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 14:02, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
