Wikimedia Estonia-Malaysia Friendship/Celebration on Independence and Liberty editathon

The Wikimedia Estonia-Malaysia Friendship: Celebration on Independence and Liberty Editathon is a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering cross-cultural exchange and enriching Wikipedia’s content on Estonia and Malaysia. It is organized by active Wikimedians from both communities and this event provides an opportunity for volunteers from around the world to contribute to Wikipedia by creating and improving articles about each other's history, culture, notable figures, and significant events.

Objectives
[edit]- To strengthen the cooperation between Wikimedia Estonia and Wikimedia Malaysia.
- To promote greater awareness and understanding of Estonia and Malaysia’s rich histories and cultures.
- To encourage collaboration among Wikimedia volunteers across different regions.
- To enhance the quality and quantity of Wikipedia content related to both countries
- To celebrate the diversity in languages available on Wikimedia projects.
- To engage with other Wikimedian communities by showing each other that "Hey! We exist, let's be friends!".
Expected outcomes
[edit]By the end of the event, we aim to:
- Increase the number of well-referenced Wikipedia articles about Estonia and Malaysia.
- Inspire more Wikimedia contributors to engage in international collaboration.
- Strengthen Wikimedia communities by encouraging new editors to participate and continue contributing beyond the event.
Event format
[edit]The editathon will be conducted online, allowing participants from anywhere in the world to join. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced Wikipedian, you are welcome to contribute. Participants will have access to resources, including article topic suggestions, reference materials, and guidance from experienced editors. Contributions can be made in various languages such as Malay, Estonian, English, and others.
How to participate
[edit]- Add your username, name of the language Wikipedia you want to contribute to, and your affiliation (if any) to the section below.
- Create, translate, or improve Wikipedia articles related to Malaysia or Estonia in your desired language Wikipedia.
- List down the articles you have created to show everyone what kinds of information you helped share to the readers of your language Wikipedia.
- You can also take time to reach out to the Wikimedian communities participating together in this event so that you can organize more activities just like this one to help expand your language Wikipedia while maintaining friendships between communities.
- There are no strict rules. Contributions to Wikimedia Commons, Wiktionary, or Wikidata are also welcome!
