Wiki Loves Monuments, the photocontest of images of cultural heritage monuments was held in Ukraine for the fourth time this year. The awards ceremony was held on November 21st in the museum of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. There was the exhibition of top photos started in Great Lavra Belltower.
Wiki Loves Monuments is an international project and it took place in 33 countries this year. The images collected are to be used in corresponding Wikipedia articles.
Participants of the Ukrainian part of the contest uploaded the biggest number of photos among all participating countries: more than 41 thousand photos of about 14 thousand different objects. 3334 cultural heritage monuments were photographed for the first time during the contest this year. 232 authors took part in Wiki Loves Monuments 2015, three of them managed to top-10 uploaders in the world (see stats).
Within the project organizers awarded prizes for the 10 best pictures (see below), the best picture from every oblast (region) of Ukraine, the biggest number of pictured monuments in every oblast and in general.
Also there is a thematic week planned in Ukrainian Wikipedia aiming at writing articles about cultural heritage. This week is initiated to honor the 25th anniversary of Saint Sophia's Cathedral together with Kyiv Pechersk Lavra being inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After the awards ceremony organizers, jury members and participants of the contest had a round table discussion about the project and its future. Some crucial points were touched and ideas emerged which we hope will make WLM 2016 in Ukraine even better.
