The Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria - Akwa Ibom Network is a branch of Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria, dedicated to advancing Wikimedia projects and initiatives aligned with the Wikimedia Nigeria movement, as well as improving access to knowledge within Akwa Ibom State. It was established on October 26, 2024.
The network will also focus on raising awareness about Wikimedia projects in Akwa Ibom State by involving local communities. Through workshops, training, and events, it aims to help volunteers learn how to contribute to platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, wikisource, etc. This will create more opportunities for people in the state to share knowledge, preserve cultural heritage, and contribute to the global Wikimedia movement. The network will rely on collaboration and coordination with Wikimedia User Group Nigeria to achieve its goals.
Objectives

- To train volunteers on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects
- To organize physical meetups for Wikimedians within Akwa Ibom State.

Languages
[edit]The Wikimedia Akwa Ibom State community focuses on English, Ibibio, Annang, and Oron-speaking groups. Volunteers can communicate in these and other Nigerian languages. Most of the outreach and learning materials are in English, but they are working on creating materials in Ibibio as well.
