Abstract
[edit]In this workshop we will talk about selected topics in quantitative analysis of Wikimedia projects. We'll show some highlights (nice pictures ;-) and how to collect, analyse and visualise Wikipedia and other Wikis. If you have more ideas or want to know more about what can be done you are very welcome to discuss with us - there are much more possibilities than what already has been done yet!
Erik
- Will show how progress on all Wikimedia projects can be summarized nicely in one chart and will use the same data to make an informed but quite unreliable prediction when Wikipedia will read 10 million articles.
- Will briefly demonstrate how Wikipedia stats prove that Americans love baseball much more than their British co-authors and how the reverse is true for cricket (as if we didn't know that already) and what circadian rhythms have to do with this.
- Promote a survey about the state of the Wiki, meant to yield anonimized quantative feedback from authenticated editors
- Answer questions about wikistats (like: why have they not been refreshed since mid-May ?)
Jakob
- Will show some nice scientific stats and diagrams on Wikipedia growth and structure and how these are generated. See also his Presentation an the ISSI 2005 conference.
