Wiki Explores Semaphore Tower, Phase I is a two day event to document Semaphore Towers in West Bengal. The objective of this event is to do photo and video documentation of semaphore towers in districts of Hooghly, Bankura and Purulia which have very little presence in Wikimedia commons. Semaphore Towers are a part of Optical Telegraph system during British rule in India and became defunct in 1828. The Kolkata - Chunar line was the longest and the towers are spread over a large area.
