[edit]

This page is for the annual report of Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group. It includes activities from June 2022 - May 2023.

Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group is a community of Filipino volunteer Wikimedians advocating free knowledge through the different Wikimedia projects; promoting the use of these projects in education and equal gender representation. We strived to empower communities through project development, support global human rights advocacy, and host campaigns promoting the open knowledge ecosystem.

  • Wikimania 2022

The Wiki Advocates Philippines take part in the Wikimania 2022. There were a series of meet-ups, edit-a-thons, watch parties, film viewing, and picnics. This also served as a venue for the members to develop their planned programs, outreach activities, and other innovations on Wikimedia projects. Experienced Wikimedians will be sharing their experiences in grant-making, reporting, and the development of Wikiprojects.

Another highlight for the group's Wikimania celebration is the outcome of the Hatch-A-Wiki project for 2021-2022. The team celebrated the huge success of two developing incubator projects, the Wikisambit and the Wikikawikaan.

  • SheSaid 2022 Closing Event

The SheSaid Philippines is an initiative of Filipino volunteers aimed at improving the visibility of women by creating new quote entries or improving existing quotations associated with them. This is in participation for the international SheSaid drive of Wiki Loves Women. As a support to bridge the gap in gender representation, this project will focus on:

  1. Increasing and/or improving content on notable Filipino women on different Wikiquote platforms;
  2. Promoting the Philippine language Wikiquote platforms under incubation (Wikisambit, Wikikawikaan) using fair gender representation;
  3. Recruitment of new editors and improving skills of existing editors through a series of edit-a-thons;
  4. Foster an open culture through meet-ups and include more women in the community of volunteers.

  • Art+Feminism and Wiki Advocates Philippines UG Meet-Up
May 21, 2023
  • An introductions from Art+Feminism and Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group about why we do the work we do.
  • Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata both rely on structured data. Join us for presentations on the ISA tool (for adding descriptions to images in the Commons) and Wikidata.
  • Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons Edit-a-thon.
  • Watch Party: "Patay na si Hesus"

We are honored to participate in the 10-year celebration of Art+Feminism. Our organization has collaborated with the A+F on their initiative to close the gender gap in Wikiprojects for the past four years. Wikidata editing, using the ISA Tool, incorporating equity into our work as an affiliate, and volunteer leadership development are among the sessions covered. We opened the event with this Pananaw Peminista video, "A Brief Timeline of the Philippine Feminist Movement," because we must acknowledge the historical roots of our work. We talked about critical feminist figures, historical occurrences, and ideas. Among those highlighted were Hidilyn Diaz, "Feminism for the 99%: a Manifesto," the Women's Crisis Center (Manila), intersectionality, and transfeminism. With the help of Anthony's ISA tool instruction and Padmini's Wikidata introduction, we spent the remainder of our time editing. Thank you to Daphne, Daniel, Julius, Imelda, and everyone else at @WikiAdvocatesPH who helped make this event happen.
