The toolkit consists of eleven steps, two of which are optional (peer review and presentation). Each step can be found in a separate page, in which an explanation of the goal of the step is provided. Each folder also includes examples of sources to use and exercises to accompany the subject or theme of the relevant step. Each step is made available in English as a lingua franca: the English version serves as an example to work from. The materials found in the English version can be translated into your language . In addition to the English version, three minority language versions are available, namely versions in Basque, Frisian, and Irish including sources in the respective minority and majority languages.

Judgment and Grading

To ensure that the WikiWomen materials can be used in any (minority) language context at any high school, the order of lesson plans and grading procedures are flexible.

Teachers can choose what order they teach the lesson plans and pick and choose which categories are most suitable for their students. Thus, the grading process will be determined by the lesson plans and it is up to the teacher to decide how the grading procedure will work. Here are some suggestions of how grading procedures can take place:

  • During the steps, Gender gap and minority languages, Wikipedia essentials, Wikipedia editing basics, Research skills, and Research standards tests can be developed in which students answer questions after having studied certain sources.
  • The research trip can be judged by letting the students write a short report on the trip. The final product can be judged on writing skills.
  • Lastly, the steps Peer review and Presentation are optional steps which are especially suitable for assessment.

School toolkit

These materials are laid out over 11 lessons (with 10 slide decks), which can be delivered over a varying period of time based on the needs and time allocation of the specific school/class.

Each lesson comes with a downloadable and editable slide deck for use in the classroom. There will also be a workbook document made available to accompany these lessons and guide students along their journey to becoming Wikimedians!
