Phabricator signup dead for weeks (at least)

This thread was copied from Wikimedia Forum/Archives/2014-10 so I don't forget about it.

I've been trying at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/auth/start/ (in response to warnings that the MediaWiki Bugzilla is going to go offline after transition to the new Phabricator server) to sign up for a Phabricator account, following the instructions to use my single-login ID and password for this process. Every time I attempt this, I get the ...

Wikimedia Foundation
Error

Our servers are currently experiencing a technical problem. This is probably temporary and should be fixed soon. Please try again in a few minutes.

... error message (sent from https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/auth/login/ldap:self/), indicating that whatever process this account signup form depends on is not responding.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  08:12, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Update: It no longer sends that crazy message, but a more accurate but not very informative one, as detailed below.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  18:25, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
Strange, I cannot reproduce this. Have you tried the "MediaWiki" log in already? It can be found below the LDAP log in box. Vogone (talk) 12:22, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
@Qgil-WMF: one for you to field if you wouldn't mind. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:32, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
@SMcCandlish: strange, I can login both via Wikimedia SUL (the sunflower button) and Wikitech/Labs/Gerrit (the LDAP form). Also, several people are registering every day. If you still find problems, please join #wikimedia-devtoolsconnect and maybe we can help you live, step by step. Finally, check mw:Phabricator/Help and its talk page, the official channel to ask Wikimedia Phabricator questions. Thank you for your interest in Phabricator!--Qgil-WMF (talk) 12:46, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
@SMcCandlish: I had a similar problem but then I gave it Oauth authorization and it worked. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:10, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
I am able to get in via OAuth now, using the "MediaWiki" login option below the "LDAP" one. My user profile on Phab still says "LDAP User: Unknown", so whatever it is that's breaking my and various other people's LDAP connection to the SUL system is still happening. I've kind of given up on the matter, but will ping those who commented in case this is still being investigated: Vogone, billinghurst, Qgil-WMF, Koavf. It had to do with LDAP thinking there are multiple user IDs for one account or vice-versa.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:44, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
I am still on a (long) persistent LDAP authentication. Haven't had to log in for so long it would be at least many months, maybe years.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:19, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
What is the problem? Users can login either through their Wikimedia account or through their wikitech.wikimedia.org account (aka LDAP). Both seem to be working? Either way, you end up in the same place.Qgil-WMF (talk) 09:33, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
@Qgil-WMF:, no LDAP has never worked for me. I get the follow OATH error every time (using the same username, SMcCandlish):

Unhandled Exception ("Exception")
LDAP record query returned more than one result. The query must uniquely identify a record.

I can log in at Wikitech just fine. This is a problem reported by others before, but no one seems to know what the issue is, other than that it's something to do with OATH reporting two sets of account info for the same ID. Maybe it has duplicate or near-duplicate records for me as an accidental artifact of all the system migration that was done several years ago.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  12:17, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
I cannot help yopu further, sorry. Has anyone or have you... filed a task in Phabricator reporting this problem?  :) Qgil-WMF (talk) 16:16, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
I've been over this so many times in some many places for so many years, I no longer remember. I know I did not early on because I couldn't get into Phab at all; I might have later. Guess I can go dig around.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  18:24, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
There is a Phab ticket, task T138672. Looks like someone's active on it, and IDed the double account issue.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  00:30, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Adjusted text

There has been a request to inform all who voted in the RfC about interlinking accounts involved with paid editing about the following adjustment in the "statement of issue" on Sept 18th, 2017.

It was clarified that this effort will help deal not only with impersonation of specific Wikipedians but also claims of being in good standing made by those who are not.[1] Thanks. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:59, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

@Doc James: Glad you're on top of this stuff.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:45, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Tech ambassadors, "take two"

Hello tech ambassador! This month has seen a good influx of new faces in this crew \o/ , so it is time to reactivate our conversations. Now that we have a pretty good coverage of so many different projects, here are some topics for your consideration.

  1. Are there further thoughts on the role itself? I hope the questions available on Meta can help spark them. Please weigh in at Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#Tech ambassadors, take 2.
  2. How about we try and organise future collective work in a Phabricator workboard? Talk:Tech/Ambassadors/List#A Phab workboard for us? has all the details to explore this proposal.
  3. Finally, you are also welcome to comment at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T177923, should you happen to have suggestions for the Community Liaisons team, currently wondering how to measure "Wiki projects requesting beta features and other early deployments".

We hope to be able to host a live discussion in early 2018; until then, we're looking forward to hearing from you on Meta! All the best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk), on behalf of the Community Liaisons

Thanks for this; I have been wondering along the lines of "what are we actually supposed to be doing?" and this may help answer that question.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  13:18, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Getting started on Phabricator

Greetings, ambassador!

As recently discussed within this group, we are ready to experiment with setting up a project and its related workboard on Phabricator, the platform used in the Wikimedia movement for project management, software bug reporting and feature requests. It will help us coordinate and cooperate better on projects that should require ambassadors' involvement.

For the time being, I'm just asking that you please add your Phabricator nickname next to your name in the ambassadors' table (you can create an account now if you don't have one already). I will send you further information soon! Thanks for your patience as we get to the operational stage of this effort :) Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:47, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

New Tech Ambassadors Phabricator board

Done.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  22:20, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello!

You have listed yourself as an active Tech Ambassador, thank you for that!

We have recently set up a board on Phabricator so that you can learn about tasks and updates that are potentially interesting for your community, and take action when necessary. During the pilot phase we are currently in, to avoid confusion, only Wikimedia Foundation's Community Liaisons will mark tasks so that they end up in the various columns. Thanks for your understanding!

Please follow this Phabricator board (learn how to). You'll receive "notifications" for updates in all tasks listed there. In case you choose to receive them as email; we currently expect the volume to be fairly low, but in any case you can learn how to manage it.

If you have any feedback about this board, please leave your questions and comments on the Ambassadors talk page.

SVG Translate Community wishlist survey project

Hello! Thank you for voting for the SVG Translate project that was proposed in the 2017 Wishlist survey. The Community Tech team in the Wikimedia Foundation is beginning to start their work on the project. We're currently looking for feedback on some open questions which will allow us to come up with preliminary designs for the tool. If you are interested in being involved, you can watch the project page and join in the discussions on the talk page. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from your experiences. Thank you. -- NKohli (WMF), Product Manager, Community Tech (talk) 21:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

JSTOR account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for JSTOR through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your JSTOR access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the JSTOR signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in September; if you request renewal after then we will only be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. The Community Wishlist Survey

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
