Socks of Khoikhoi

[edit]

Please do a CheckUser of the following User: en:User:Khoikhoi he must have also two socks en:User:Român and en:User:Ungurul and also en:User:71.198.42.175

For checks on the English Wikipedia, use w:WP:RFCU. Jon Harald Søby 12:03, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
But you can't do it here also or what? Yes you can, so I just want to ask you one more time is he or not? I need solid answer. Yes or no. I think he is.
Technically, I could do checks on the English Wikipedia, but this is specifically forbidden under the Steward or CheckUser policy. So the answer is no. Jon Harald Søby 13:28, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Steward question

[edit]

Jon, how would you set up the steward makesysop extension on mediawiki so you can change access on multiple wikis?? i have 3 mediawikis on my apache server!

i want to do it so that user:WoW@testwiki1 is sysop, bureaucrat or user:WILLY ON WHEELS@wiki2 is sysop, bureaucrat, checkuser etc.

anyone know how to use Makesysop.php effectively?? --Willy On Wheels 12:58, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I can't help you there, sorry… (WoW??) Jon Harald Søby 12:14, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

.. for helping to translate my Board election statement. The amount of multilingual activity in Wikimedia never ceases to amaze me, and I think we can do much more to support translation efforts throughout the Foundation. For example, on the technical level, I believe in interfacing with computer-aided translation tools such as the open source utility Omega-T (to make it easier to translate only the changes in the new version of a document), and to build multilingual discussion support into MediaWiki. (I've authored the specifications for LiquidThreads, which is being implemented as a Summer of Code project by David McCabe, and the Multilingual MediaWiki specs, which are going to be coded by Charles Pritchard with support from the University of Bamberg and Wikia.) It would also be neat to support open source machine translation efforts like Apertium, and to integrate those with MediaWiki.

I also believe that the next-generation dictionary, WiktionaryZ, will help with internationalization efforts. On the social level, we need to build organizational structures which take multilinguality into account, i.e. support local chapters, and bring translators into the Foundation-level processes. One final idea I have is to build a translation assignment management system, so we can easily manage and prioritize the translation tasks that need to be done, and notify translators when a document is ready for translation. If you have other ideas for improving and supporting multilinguality in our projects, please let me know at User talk:Eloquence. Again, thanks for your translation, and please keep up the great work!--Eloquence 21:27, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome! If I get/remember any ideas, I'll tell you. Jon Harald Søby 13:18, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aromanian translation

[edit]

I hope you won't get angry cause we translated the introductory section to your site into our language in order to make your site look even more interesting. We were hoping you could help us with our still maintaining problem.
We uploaded the file under roa-rup:Image:Wiki.png but the main file is under: [1] which is impossible to change, our guess is that it's protected, could you have a look and if possible change it with our file? Thank you very much in advance. Dumitrachi Fundu and Eea "Moscopole-Crushuva"

Thank you for translating it! I'll ask a developer to change the logo url for you; they'll have to change something in the HTML of the site to do that. Jon Harald Søby 12:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Brion fixed it! It isn't transparent, however, an error on my part, when making the file; I'll fix that later, when I get on a computer with the required software (probably on Sunday). Jon Harald Søby 12:51, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for the change, even though it's not transparent at least it's linguistically correct. We are very grateful for your effort and remain at your service.

Okay, now it's fixed. I also took the liberty of protecting the image, to avoid it being vandalized (that would be a prime target of semi-advanced vandals). Jon Harald Søby 15:52, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for everything you did and we remain at your service for anything you might need. Eeamoscopolecrushuva 21:46, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Zealand

[edit]

Hi from NZ (First place in the world for the voting to close in the Board election). Best wishes with the election work you do. Missed out on having 400 edits and was not able to be involved. Love the concept of wikipedia. Infact set up a university club that was the first online club on campus (Waikato University - Oneness of Humanity Club) and held online elections. The idea of the club was an online undergraduate academic journal. Started months before wikipedia and so I am impressed with the grow of the wiki project. I to wish to read, write, speak and listen to Arabic and Persian. RoddyYoung 17:29, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tack

[edit]

// habj 10:38, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Election results announcements

[edit]

Hi there. I hope you don't mind, but I posted a link from the foundation-l mailing list to here, trying to clear up some of the confusion over when the election results will be announced. I thought it best to let you know, so you can confirm this in person. Thanks. PS. Good to see you have an interest in Tolkien! :-) Carcharoth 18:39, 22 September 2006

request for deletions on sysop-less wikis

[edit]

Hi Jon Harald Søby/Archive/7, I have noticed that you have earlier cleaned up vandalism on cho:, therefore I'm contacting you directly. I have added requests to Multilingual speedy deletions some two weeks ago, apparantly they went unnoticed. I wonder if you have the time to go through ak:Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and cho:Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and remove all the garbage in there. Thanks in advance!--Johannes Rohr 05:47, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'm on it. If there's anything else I can help with, don't hesitate to ask. Jon Harald Søby 09:44, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It looks like this one which was not in the category should also be removed. Thanks again, --Johannes Rohr 12:19, 4 October 2006 (UTC) Also this one--Johannes Rohr 12:22, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Hi, sorry for trespassing on your time, but could you, as a member of m:Special projects subcommittees/New languages, give the issue Talk:Special_projects_subcommittees/New_languages#Approval of wikipedia in Belarusian (normative) language? a look? Thank you. Yury Tarasievich 11:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou very much Jon Harald Søby for granting me temporary sysop priviledges on Nepalese Wikipedia. I will commence the Interface Translation work now. --Jose77 04:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
