Ready for translation: Editing News #1—2018

Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the upcoming issue of the multilingual newsletter for the visual editor, which will be widely delivered when it's end of Friday in Central Europe. Thanks in advance for your help with this: getting to interact with fellows so skilled like the translators are is among my favorite things about my job :) Best, Elitre (WMF) 10:29, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. Please let us know about difficulties you experience with the translation memory system.

Re: Sustainability Initiative

Fatto! Mi pare giusto. (I agree with all the new page says, although I still think green certificates can be a good option, and in practice I've been helping with those goals for a while.) Tschüss, Nemo 14:03, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Idea for Sustainability Initiative

Hello Gnom !

I know that main problem for data centers are electricity consumption and I know that hard drives consumes a lot of energy. That's why I got an idea to have a lower consumption: why don't delete lots of things ? By lots of things I mean very old deleted pages. Because, actually, all versions of pages (and also of deleted pages) are still on Wikimedia's servers. If we delete data of pages deleted a long time ago (some years possibly) this should improve Wikimedia servers consumption and, by the way, help environment be less contaminated.

I hop that this idea will help you working for the Sustainability Initiative ! --Niridya (talk) 17:24, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Gnom!

I am reaching out to you from Accra, Ghana. I run an NGO on sustainable initiatives that promote everything green through education and campaigns for the youth. I am also an experienced Wikipedian with over three(3) years of training and leading. I saw your submitted topic on Environment which is of high interest to me and would love to collaborate/ partner with you in that space. We can share ideas as i bring my view from the African Continent. I am currently the Administrative Executive for Open Foundation West Africa, a usergroup in Ghana. Please let me now your thoughts as deadline for proposal submission is approaching. Thanks Joy Agyepong (talk) 21:46, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joy Agyepong, thank you for your message. Let's definitely work together on this. My proposal is actually quite flexible, so I'm happy to hear your thoughts. Kind regards, --Gnom (talk) Let's make Wikipedia green! 21:50, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lightning talk edit

Hello, was your removal of my proposal on the Lightning talk page for the Wikimedia Conference an accident, or is there something else I should know about? Sofie Sigrinn (talk) 10:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC) Sofie Sigrinn (talk) 10:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sofie Sigrinn, I am SO sorry, I was just trying to fix the weird (and also accidental) change that Jmabel had made to my signature!! My apologies, it should be fixed now. :-) --Gnom (talk) Let's make Wikipedia green! 10:34, 19 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

The Community Wishlist Survey

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

De Novo Como

Hi, Lukas. Thanks for your message! I have added my name to the Sustainability Initiative list and I'll suggest to other Vicipaedians to do the same. It's a very good cause. I enjoyed our conversations in Como and I hope we'll meet again somewhere soon. Best wishes meanwhile -- Andrew Dalby (talk) 14:53, 27 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

"Who Wrote That" project update

Hello. I'm reaching out to you as you participated in the 2017 Community Wishlist proposal for "Who Wrote That" project (previously known as "Blame Tool"). The Community Tech team is kicking things off on the project and we have an early-stage mockup available for you to look at. I invite you to follow that project page, where I will be posting periodic status updates for the project. You are also welcome to provide your thoughts on the talk page. Thank you. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 22:57, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support

Hello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), you can also add others. If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 13:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

The candidate for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is asking you to support his candidacy!

Hi Gnom,
I ask you and your local organization to consider my candidacy for the candidates for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. I myself put forward my candidacy for this election. I ask you to support my candidacy, as I have a strategic vision of the next. Each of the foreign language sections of the Wikimedia Foundation project must receive the widest support. This will ensure an increase in the content of your linguistic local of the Wikimedia Foundation projects. Other linguistic local communities of the World can count on the same support. Also, I believe that all foreign language sections of the Wikimedia Foundation projects that are less powerful than English speakers should have the same chance for the rapid growth of their local projects.
In case you and your local organization support my candidacy. Then, I ask you to write this in my profile of the candidate for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. You can write this in the "Endorsements" section of my candidate profile.
Thank you for your attention!
Kind regards,Yithello (talk) 11:01, 30 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thank you for Wikimedia Deutschland organization's vote during the 2019 trustee election. With your organization’s, Igbo's, and AfroCrowd's votes, I was able to score better than expected. I look forward to working with the trustees. Geraldshields11 (talk) 18:46, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 needs translations

Hello!

I'm contacting you because you've already translated some messages for the Community Wishlist Survey. We need more translations for the 2020 edition, to create a survey that would serve as many users as we know.

The list below shows our needs by order of importance (most important first):

  1. The invitation sent to communities. It summarizes the process. We plan to distribute it soon on this year target wikis. The more translations we have, the better!
  2. The form for non-English speakers. Anyone should be able to add their wish, no matter which language they speak. Translating this short form is very important to encourage diversity and equity.
  3. The survey itself, where the entire process is described.
  4. The preload form, that provides more context on existing wishes.

Some languages are already covered (maybe by you), but some messages have been updated, and there is always some room for reviewing and polishing messages.

Thank you in advance for your help! This survey can't be successful without your assistance. :)

Sustainability Initiative/List of supporters - Nummerierung

--Gnom (talk) 12:00, 24 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Jayanta (CIS-A2K), thank you, that is great news! Just to make sure, this was probably an error because that's not my submission, so you probably still need to notify the correct person for this submission. Thank you again, --Gnom (talk) 12:33, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Syntax

Danke schon jetzt. Viele Grüße in den Norden, --Wikisympathisant (talk) 13:58, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Erledigt. :-) --Gnom (talk) 14:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Unterstützerliste

Hallo Gnom,

Sonnige Wochendendgrüße in den Norden, --Wikisympathisant (talk) 16:59, 29 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

--Gnom (talk) 09:23, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sonntagsgrüße, --Wikisympathisant (talk) 21:01, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

:-) --Gnom (talk) 21:08, 30 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Viele Grüße, --Wikisympathisant (talk) 18:16, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gruß, --Gnom (talk) 20:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your support!

Hello, Gnom/Archive 3:

We wanted to THANK YOU for expressing your support in our grant application to develop Web2Cit: Visual Editor for Citoid Web Translators and for volunteering to take part in the project. We have great news to share: our proposal has been approved!

In the following weeks, we will be processing some paperwork and refining our next steps for this project. We aim to give updates so you can follow the development of the project and you can understand when and how you can contribute!

But for now, we wanted to thank you and invite you to celebrate with us!

Both Diegodlh and myself are very thankful for your support. --Scann (talk) 12:38, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Call for Advisory Board members for Web2Cit

Hello, Gnom/Archive 3:

Web2Cit: Visual Editor for Citoid Web Translators project is moving!

With Diegodlh we are inviting people to apply to be an Advisory Board member. Is this you? Is this someone you know?

Check the Call for members and apply to be an Advisory Board member before August 6th!

If you are too busy this time around to apply, don't worry: we get it. You can also help us by spreading the word! We sincerely appreciate it. --Scann (talk) 22:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

IP Masking

--Gnom (talk) 09:31, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Verstehe. Schon in Ordnung. Kudpung (talk) 09:36, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Comments on UCOC

I wonder if your comment about the right to be heard might be better placed under "timelines" than under "reasons for sanctions." Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:51, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Darkfrog24, thank you for your comment, but my point is actually very similar to the one raised in "reasons for sanctions". In fact, the right to know the reason for a sanction is a sub-category of audi et alteram partem. --Gnom (talk) 17:56, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2021 submission

Dear Lukas,

On behalf of the Wikimedia CEE Online Meeting 2021 programme committee, I am pleased to inform you that your submission "Towards a more environmentally sustainable Wikimedia Movement" has been accepted as a discussion, and it was scheduled for 12:45 (UTC) on Sunday, 7 November (see the draft schedule). Considering that the conference will have language interpretation from English into Russian and vice versa, you have the choice between English and Russian as a language that you will use in your session. If you have not yet registered for the conference, please follow the instructions on this page. In case you have any additional requests or questions, do not hesitate to contact me or any other committee member.

Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 09:19, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lukas, a member of the Board of Trustees requested to change their panel from Saturday to Sunday, so we re-scheduled your session to 13:40 (UTC) on 6 November (Saturday). I apologise for swapping your time slot. Best.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 15:27, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kiril Simeonovski, thank you for letting me know. I am very sorry but I am only available after 16.30 on Saturday and after 12.00 noon on Sunday. Is it possible to somehow make that happen? Kind regards, --Gnom (talk)
Hi Lukas. I've re-scheduled your session to 14:35 (UTC)/15:35 (CET) on Sunday. Best.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 18:35, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much! --Gnom (talk) 10:20, 22 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Contact

Hallo IngoAudio, schreib mir doch mal eine E-Mail an lukas.mezger (at) wikipedia.de. Gruß, --Gnom (talk) 18:52, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Separate meeting

Hi Lukas,

Anything in particular we want to include in a submission for a separate meeting: I specifically would want some committee members there, and preferably prior to the Board meeting so a follow-up can be asked there.

Yours,

Nosebagbear (talk) 18:07, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Nosebagbear, having committee members there would be great of course. We also need to start a collection of the situations in which a right to be heard would be inappropriate. What board meeting are you referring to? Gnom (talk) 15:33, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Do you want to subscribe to the Wikimedians for Sustainable Development newsletter?

Wrong file name?

Hi,

Last October, you added the file File:Wikimedia network overview.png on the page Wikimedia servers (Special:Diff/23922493) but something went wrong as this file doesn't exist (not under this name at least...)

Cheers, VIGNERON en résidence (talk) 16:03, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @VIGNERON en résidence! You are of course correct. The file is here: wikitech:File:Wikimedia network overview.png. Maybe we can ask User:Ayounsi to host it on Commons instead of on Wikitech? Kind regards, Gnom (talk) 16:07, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see. There is no account "AYounsi" here on Meta, I'm guessing/hoping this is the same person as User:AYounsi (WMF) (ping). Cheers, VIGNERON en résidence (talk) 15:31, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Check my translation?

Would you please correct my translation, as a favor to me? I would like this planned CentralNotice banner to sound natural. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:58, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Whatamidoing (WMF), the translation was rather hard to understand, I hope it works better now! Gnom (talk) 21:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I'm trying to work on my German, but as you can see, I still have more to learn. :-)
I really appreciate your help. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:30, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think the issue is that the English version is a bit tricky to translate because it uses expressions like "graduate" and "opt-in". Gnom (talk) 21:38, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
