Global-wiki proposed merge
[edit]Hello. Apologies for my late response. I'm fully supportive of a merge but I'm not sure how to go about it. Presumably UserWiki would be redirected to Global-wiki, and all comments and supports moved across? Would we have to contact those users that supported UserWiki but did not comment at Global-wiki, or could we presume they would be equally happy with Global-wiki? Even more importantly, what is the next step in the Global-wiki proposal i.e. when does it move from the "drawing board"? Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 19:56, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Truly sorry for that, don't know why that vote carried over.--AldNonymousBicara? 04:51, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Why is this user awesome?
[edit]Do you really think, to be part of a user group (SysOPs ore else) makes you automaticly "awesome"? Nothing against your Nominees - but I will not support anybody of them because of the causes given by you. It's only a loveless mass nomination and I think, nobody of them is really that less awesome as we could think of your laudatio. Marcus Cyron (talk) 17:03, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
Mistaken revert
[edit]Sorry for my mistaken revert, I have confused you with the vandal. Regards.--Syum90 (talk) 15:33, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Syum90: don't worry :) you were rightly too fast, and the vandal was also fast, determined to continue. It gave me an idea, if it is kind of things reproduce, we must creates a page or a section in Gs eyes to count the names. What means a black-list :D .--Grind24 (talk) 15:47, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Yeti2016 et al.
[edit]Thank you for your help in trying to save Interlingua Wikipedia from massive disruption.
In Steward_requests/Checkuser#Yeti2016@ia.wikipedia (07:20, 29 January 2016 (UTC)), you wrote:
- List of users
- Julius Tominius i(...)
- Yeti2016 (...)
- Joao Fernandez (...)
- Alfonso Martinez-Ramirez (...)
- Pedro A. Bermudez (...)
- Alessandro Trompone (...)
- CU log
- Discussion: w:en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Tobias_Conradi/Archive#28_January_2016
- Reason(s): Julius Tominius and Yeti2016 were confirmed by enwiki Checkuser as sock of globally banned user Tobias Conradi. After Yeti2016's account was blocked, four new users was created at iawiki, two of which (Joao Fernandez and Alfonso Martinez-Ramirez) have edits similar to Yeti2016. These may be new socks of this user and should be globally locked. Another two accounts currently have zero edits, but I also suspect them as socks.
You can add:
- Tin-99s
- Xenon-110s
to the list. No sooner was Alfonso Martinez-Ramirez blocked than these two new accounts appeared, and Tin-99s picked up exactly where Alfonso Martinez-Ramirez left off: creating hundreds of micro-stubs for all isotopes of all elements. A couple of IPs:
- 91.9.116.177
- 91.9.126.229
may be involved as well.
I could supply a list of abuses by this user that I have not seen mentioned in the (closed) records of sock puppet investigations. In brief, he has blanked and marked for deletion a couple of much used templates (equivalent of Template:Infobox country on English Wikipedia) and eviscerated infoboxes on some hundreds of pages. I can supply more detail, with diffs and the like, given a bit of time to prepare them, but think it better to get the above information into responsible hands as soon as possible.
Maybe academic at this date: A previous assault on iawiki came in 2011 from user Alberto Emilio Lopez Viñals, who got blocked (globally, June 20) and came back with numerous sockpuppet accounts, including Neosofista, CYBERDELIC, and Jedimasterbot. I am wondering whether that user might be one an the same as Julius Tominius etc. I'll discuss further if you like.
I have been only an occasional editor on iawiki (also enwiki) and am unfamiliar with proper procedures for handling this kind of thing. If a message on your talk page is not appropriate, I would welcome advice. I have not yet used any of the user-warning templates on the user page(s) of the user(s) (it would seem like spitting into a hurricane and likely invite reprisal) and think my next step is to ask advice from a more experienced user on iawiki. That, and prepare the detailed documentation of abuses (diffs etc.) mentioned above.
In case you care to reply here on your talk page, I will watch here; also my talk pages on iawiki, enwiki, and meta.
Thanks!

Wikidata primary sources tool: call for support
[edit]Dear @GZWDer:
it seems that you have been using the Wikidata primary sources tool, right?
If you think that the tool needs an uplift, please consider an endorsement of the StrepHit IEG renewal through the following link:
m:Grants:IEG/StrepHit:_Wikidata_Statements_Validation_via_References/Renewal#Endorsements
Feel also free to comment the work plan in the renewal talk page: your thoughts are essential.
Thanks a lot for your time, looking forward to your feedback.
Cheers,

Undoing your edits re MMOB
[edit]Hi.
I have undone your edits to Massively-Multiplayer Online Bibliography. The page describes a suggested project, but not a suggested Wikimedia Foundation sister project. For you to decide, without discussion, to add the requested sister-project template only to immediately mark it rejected (by whom?) is a bit absurd, not to mention impolite.
What I proposed may or may not be implemented over Wikidata. The place to determine that would be the talk page and the Wikidata community public forums, where you are welcome to participate as well. Ijon (talk) 20:42, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
You seem to know about global locks.
[edit]Hello, I have noticed that you commented on several global locks, well I really don't want to bother you if this is not your thing but as I can't seem to find any "Guide for appealing global locks" I would like to ask you what I could do, I am indefinitely blocked in 2 communities and I really just wish to edit in a community where I have never been blocked (Dutch Wikipedia) but because of my global lock this is not possible, what would you advise me to do? For the record I made 2 bad faith names insulting another editor (to whom I have apologised, admittedly after evading my block but I thought that he deserves kt because he wrote a good reply that I only saw after my lock), and I made accounts with a name similar to a blocking admin, well I should've read the terms of service because that's forbidden and I have read almost every rule ans guideline since my block and don't think that I'll ever break one here again, but I can't seem to establish any contact with any steward. --2405:4800:148C:AAB1:811B:7305:E235:9FEC 13:12, 21 August 2017 (UTC) (Donald Trung)
- The correct place to appeal a global lock is Steward requests/Global or stewardswikimedia.org (if you don't want to disclose your IP), but I have moved your request there.--GZWDer (talk) 14:56, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
soweego project: call for support
[edit]Dear @GZWDer:
Remember the Wikidata primary sources tool? Thanks to your support, my team has recently started building its next version (yes, the grant process took a long time). A couple of new features are deployed, so feel free to give them a try.
I'm reaching out to draw your attention on a new use case for the tool. The main goal is to add a massive amount of identifiers to Wikidata, ensuring live maintenance of links.
Do you think that Wikidata should become the central linking hub of open knowledge? If so, I'd be really grateful if you could endorse the soweego project:
m:Grants:Project/Hjfocs/soweego
You just have to click on the blue button in the infobox. Of course, any other comment is more than welcome on the discussion page.
Looking forward to your valuable feedback.
Best,

[edit]Either remove this from your user: page or cease your edit warring. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 09:02, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Incnis Mrsi: As Ajraddatz edited it this need not to be modified again.--GZWDer (talk) 09:18, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- Again, make your status certain, please. If you are mostly inactive here, then you haven’t lecture one of (nowadays) Wikimedia top-10 non-steward cross-wiki LTA fighters. If you want to challenge my view and preach about what needs to be modified and by whom, then remove the retirement message and open a thread somewhere. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 12:38, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Incnis Mrsi: It's common to revert others' edit if you disagree with it, whether the edit is made by a blocked user, an ordinary user or a sysop/steward. Only repeatedly reverting constitutes edit war. Also the message in user page means I do not edit Wikimedia project year-round; see here.--GZWDer (talk) 12:59, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

Wikidata's edit number 10^9
[edit]While Wikidata may have a "billionth edit", d:Special:Statistics only says 999,531,801 edits as I type this. Presumably this is because of past page deletions (just like there are fewer reported existing entries than the current highest numbered entry). Announcements at Wikimedia News are generally based on what Special:Statistics reports. I think we should hold off until the stats actually say 1,000,000,000+ edits. - dcljr (talk) 00:19, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Dcljr: With the speed of editing this will be reached in no more than one day. Watch it.--GZWDer (talk) 00:29, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Global templates
[edit]Hi!
I see that you are listed as one of the people who proposed Global-Wiki. It was closed as "consensus", but it's far from being actually implemented.
I am now trying to reboot this work. I wrote a similar proposal: mw:Global templates is the introduction, there are more details in mw:Global templates/Proposed specification, short version, and even more details in mw:Global templates/Draft spec.
This proposal is a little smaller in scope than Global-Wiki, but I have reasons to think that in this format it has a better chance of actually getting implemented.
I'd love to hear what do you think about it. If you support it, please sign at mw:Global templates/Discuss.
Thank you! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 13:37, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Q
[edit]Hey GZWDer. May I ask, what is Block appeal for? Generally, blocked users can't edit out of the own userspace and appeal should be made on their own talk pages. Minorax (talk) 08:32, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- I planned to write a guide about how blocks may be appealed, especially targetting such situations. I hope I can complete this page soon.--GZWDer (talk) 13:32, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you!
[edit]I really wanted to give my heartfelt thanks for your comments on the diverse parts of the Abstract Wikipedia discussion. They show that you have really worked through the proposal documents and the functional model (thank you for that!), and they show a very good intuition of many of the issues that will arise. I want to make explicit that I hope that I don't sound dismissive of any of your proposals. These are really good ideas, and I think we should implement quite a few of them (I will create Phabricator tasks myself if you don't in the next few days). I am really thankful for the thorough thinking displayed in and development of your suggestions. Thank you! --DVrandecic (WMF) (talk) 02:47, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Push subscription managers
[edit]Hi, thanks for adding this to Tech News! I investigated a bit more and talked to MHolloway, the developer, and this is purely a backend solution to clean up the database: it will be used by a bot account related to the push notifications service, no actual persons will have this right. There's nothing the Tech News readers can act on and they won't notice anything (they won't see a difference in their own subscriptions, since this will only clean up subscriptions that are flagged as invalid (most likely because they've expired), so since no one will be able to do anything or tell any difference, I removed it. But thanks, and please keep adding things – I rather remove ten things, than miss one. (: /Johan (WMF) (talk) 21:22, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
