Las bibliotecas son aliadas claves para la misión de Wikipedia: recopilar y diseminar la suma de todo el conocimiento. Por esta coincidencia en la misión, los editores de Wikipedia han estando implicando a las bibliotecas locales como parte de la estrategia de extensión del movimiento WikipediaGLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums). Hay algunos ejemplos señeros de implicación de bibliotecarios, con estudios de caso como la Catalan Network of Public Libraries, la State Library of New South Wales, la National Library of Israel, los National Archives of the United States, entre otros.
