The Ghana PollsThe Ghana Polls

The Ghana Polls campaign led by Open Foundation West Africa, aims to educate Ghanaians on the importance of exercising their constitutional right to vote while promoting peace throughout every election process. This initiative also seeks to enhance Ghana’s online presence by curating and creating content about the election process and its key players, increasing visibility on Wikipedia and beyond.

In 2020, we piloted the project to document the events of Ghana’s General Elections on Wikipedia. As part of the initiative, a hackathon was hosted on Wikipedia to make live contributions to the results obtained by the 12 presidential candidates across the 16 regions of Ghana.

The hackathon also witnessed documentation of the parliamentary elections, including updates on candidates who lost, attained, and retained their seats in their prospective constituencies. This milestone projected the importance of documenting accurate information to promote peace
