Template talk:GrantmakingNavbar
Add topicCurrrent look
[edit]I don't like the current look of this navbar:
- the graphic on the left is unrecognizable at this size, and should be removed or replaced with something more obvious. +1
- the black background of the leftmost pane is too stark. +1
- the white-on-light-gray is too hard to read. +1
Thanks. Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 21:31, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
I agree with Asaf's comments on the aesthetics. I also with Jessie that it's good to have links to the other grants pages. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Yes, we need some version of the nav bar to link across programs. Re aesthetics, I'd like some version that uses the different colour codes for the grants programs because it's a nice visual touch - exactly how it's rendered is up to you folks. I agree with some of the background fuzziness that Asaf and Alex mention. ASengupta (WMF) (talk) 22:52, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Localization
[edit]How to localize this template??? Should be separate translatable page with names are displayed. Localized names should be substituted based on pagelang.--Kaganer (talk) 10:10, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm working on it. If you like, I can ping you when I'm done, and you can check to make sure it's working like it should. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 20:01, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, please ping me. --Kaganer (talk) 20:30, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, I have made progress, Kaganer. You can translate this page, and translated program titles should appear when the user is visiting a non-en subpage as long as there's a translation of the template in that language. Else it defaults to en. Known issues: it doesn't align RTL languages properly and it doesn't change color yet. Let me know if there's anything else going wrong. Cheers, Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 01:09, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Russian translation is done ;) --Kaganer (talk) 07:52, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Jmorgan, Verdy p: Please update Module:GrantmakingNavbar for lead to the pages in the same language as the current page.
- See proposed code: Module:GrantmakingNavbar/Sandbox, Module:GrantmakingNavbar/Sandbox/pages
- Test version of navbar: {{GrantmakingNavbar/Sandbox}}
- Test using in this example "/ru" page (just click preview and check links - all links is leads to "/ru" versions of target pages)
- Hi Kaganer. Thanks for your updates. The only problem I have found is that if the link target page does not exist in a user's language, the link fails. See for example the APG link on User:Jmorgan_(WMF)/Test/de. How do we fix that? Cheers, Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 22:38, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, and also I don't believe that Template:TNT is necessary, since the template text is in translation here. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 22:41, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- 1. Fixed. This was my mistake.
- 2. Yes, {{TNT}} is not necessary. Removed from User:Kaganer/GrantmakingNavbarPreload and from core grants pages.

- Excellent. I made one small update: if uselang is English, the link will point directly to the portal page, not the /en subpage of the portal. This is so that if someone browsing in English were to click 'edit' after navigating to that page via the navbar, they would see the edit window as expected, not the translation interface. Does that make sense to you? If so, and if you're satisfied with everything else, we can go live with these changes. Thanks again! Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 18:07, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- I agree ;) --Kaganer (talk) 23:34, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Done. Sweet. I copied the code over. Looks like it's working. ::high five:: !! Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 01:19, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
