- @ThurnerRupert: Hi Rupert, this is the page naming schema we've been using for Annual Plans for a few years now. I do understand that mailman will, frustratingly, truncate any URL that is longer than its own determined page width, however, it would be very difficult to come up with a page name for a page like this that was both adequately descriptive (that is, didn't leave out necessary descriptive words like "final" or shorten things like "Wikimedia Foundation" into initialisms or jargon that would be difficult for newer readers to understand) and succinct enough to not be clipped by mailman. I'm open to ideas, but for now the pages will need to stay where they are. In the meantime, you can always copy and paste both lines of the URL into your browser so you can eliminate the newline Mailman introduces. Kbrown (WMF) (talk) 13:26, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
@Kbrown (WMF):, it is not mailman at fault, the request for comments 882: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2822.txt recommends lines to be shorter than 78 characters. "Wikimedia_Foundation_Annual_Plan" has 32 characters, "WMF_Plan" is 8 characters and better suited, as 2018-2019 makes the the annual clear, and wmf is clear in this context as well. in doubt the page itself should mention that WMF is the wikimedia foundation not the world monuments fund. what you think? a redirect URL is left in place anyway if you move it so no harm. --ThurnerRupert (talk) 22:32, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
- Doesn't Wikimedia have an official URL shortener? I remember having read about it. --NaBUru38 (talk) 21:51, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
