Help me understand

[edit]

An upfront declaration: I used to work for the foundation, in looking after the affiliates data portal as well as supporting affiliate recognition by Affcom.

Group A affiliates will report via fluxx, and the fluxx form will include affiliate health questions. Fluxx will then automatically create a public facing report with selected public data, on meta. Then a WMF staff(s) will capture this data into the affiliates data portal.

Group B affiliates will use a new meta template to answer affiliate health questions. The result will be a meta page here on meta. Then a WMF staff(s) will capture this data into the affiliates data portal.

Group C affiliates will write their own report on meta (Or any public wikimedia projects), then use the data portal to submit their report via the data portal. They will not be asked any affiliate health questions per groups A & B.

Isn't the more elegant solution to:

  • Link fluxx reporting to the data portal so that staff don't have to be "data capturers" on an already automated system.
  • Incorporate the affiliate health questions as an extra form on the data portal so that groups B & C can provide insights into affiliate health questions, and affiliates can continue to submit their own reports without WMF staff having to become "data capturers".

I submit that the above would free-up those staff who would have been tasked with "data capturing" to extend actual support to affiliates with regards to better demonstrating their work through reports.

Unless the affiliates data portal is no longer necessary, in which case "sun-set" it properly and institute a new easy to use system for affiliates to report public data about their impact.

Good to hear from you, and thank you for providing your insights and potential ways forward. The current approach–having staff manually data into the Data Portal–is being used during the learning phase. The data from the learning phase will help us to decide on the next steps, including figuring out the best amongst the various options (some of which you've outlined).
