Eligibility of Ambassadors for scholarship.
[edit]Hello Wikimedians,
I would like to be clarified if Ambassadors are eligible for scholarships in the above named conference.
Thank you.
--Uzoma Ozurumba (talk) 09:12, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Uzoma Ozurumba,
- Thank you for writing to us! Being an ambassador can significantly increase one's chances for receiving a scholarship. However, it is not a guaranteed that an ambassador receives a scholarship. Please go through the this section to know more about the scholarship criteria. --Netha Hussain (talk) 09:29, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Don't forget to fill out the application!
[edit]Hi!
Sunday 20 August is the deadline for the application for travel and accommodation scholarships for the Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017. If you haven't yet filled in the application, we kindly ask you to please do so as soon as possible. Your inputs will help us develop the program.
It would be much appreciated if you also can help us reach out to Wikimedia volunteers and staff members that are passionate about diversity and let them know that they can also apply.
We are working on securing more funds towards travel for participants and we have identified a few good possibilities that we are optimistic about.
Best regards, John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 04:29, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
Scholarships
[edit]Dear organizers. The way scholarships (application) work is not quite clear to me. Should one tick all those that may apply to them and consideration will be made separately for each or should one apply only the one with the highest chances? Does not receiving 3 mean consideration for 2 or not? Should the first option even be checked? Thank you!--Jetam2 (talk) 21:18, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Jetam2, Thank you for your question. Please tick the option(s) that would make it possible for you to attend. If you click many and we have more applicants than funding, we will contact you and ask some follow-up questions.
- To give a couple of examples: If you from other sources can pay for accommodation and travel then you only tick scholarship option 1 for conference participation. If you for example have the possibility to receive a scholarship from your affiliate for travel but not accommodation, and would like support for that cost, then you should tick that you would like scholarship option 2 for conference participation and accommodation. Please let me know if something is still unclear. Best, John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 05:34, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the answer.--Jetam2 (talk) 21:22, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
Confirmation of submission
[edit]Hello, I have completed my application and submitted it. However, I did not receive a confirmation e-mail. Is that normal? I made sure my email address was entered correctly (I copied and pasted it). Thanks! --Maor X (talk) 07:00, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
- I did not receive a confirmation too :( --Sahaquiel9102 (talk) 19:12, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- I have the same problem. I sent an E-mail to User:Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) and to User:Rosiestep but i did not get any answer. There is a problem in the system. please chack. Thanks --Hanay (talk) 14:03, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Dear all, Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) is on holidays until tomorrow. I do not know why a confirmation e-mail is not sent, but I can confirm that you are all successfully registered with your applications. Kindly, Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 20:12, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Eric Luth (WMSE) thank you for let us know that we registered successfully. I will apreciate if I also get a formal confirmation through the system. So we can be sure that in the future the system will not ignor us. Hanay (talk) 01:01, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Scholarship notice is a little delayed
[edit]Hello all
For those who applied for scholarship and now waiting to hear back from the Scholarship committee, please be patient. There is only a slight delay in notifying applicants, you should have them during this week. Sorry about the delay with this. --Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) (talk) 16:32, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- We reconfirm our apologies and efforts to get back to you during this week. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 16:55, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) and Eric Luth (WMSE): I have still received no notification so far. Neither for the receipt of my application nor a scholarship confirmation. -- Freddy2001 talk 16:55, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Freddy2001, I will send it to you today. Thanks --Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) (talk) 06:18, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

When would the waiting list candidates be confirmed?
[edit]Hello,
When would the waiting list candidates be confirmed whether they are selected or rejected? Any deadline for this? Please inform. Thank You. --Rahmanuddin (talk) 06:14, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Rahmanuddin, this is depending on the rate of attendance confirmations from scholarship recipients. There may be last minute changes where waiting list candidates will be approached. In that way, there isn't a deadline I'm afraid. --Sara Mörtsell (WMSE) (talk) 06:42, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
The DivCon17 has reached maximum capacity
[edit]After a couple of questions the last days I would like to provide some updates.
The Diversity Conference 2017 has had double the amounts of applicants for the seats available. The Scholarship committee have already informed the people applying for Scholarship 2 and Scholarship 3. Wikimedia Sverige's staff is now processing visas and travels. People that would participate as part of the Scholarship 1 group will be contacted shortly about their possible attendance.
This mean that all seats at the conference have been filled and we have reached maximum capacity. We are very happy with this large interest, but sad that we cannot fit all great applicants.
Thank you, John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 12:13, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi John, what is the capacity? thanks Hanay (talk) 12:18, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Hanay, the maximum capacity for the number of participants is 83 people.
- This does not include the volunteers and staff that will support the conference with registrations etc. but that won't take part in the program. John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 08:43, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
presenting the project Wikipedia Cultural Diversity Observatory and asking for volunteers in Wikimedia Diversity Conference
[edit]Hello everyone, My name is Marc Miquel and I am a researcher from Barcelona (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). While I was doing my PhD I studied whether an identity-based motivation could be important for editor participation and I analyzed content representing the editors' cultural context in 40 Wikipedia language editions. Few months later, I propose creating the 'Wikipedia Cultural Diversity Observatory' in order to raise awareness on Wikipedia’s current state of cultural diversity, providing datasets, visualizations and statistics, and pointing out solutions to improve intercultural coverage.
I am going to talk about this project at the Wikimedia Diversity Conference, but before, I am presenting it to a grant and I expect that the site becomes a useful tool to help communities create more multicultural encyclopaedias and bridge the content culture gap that exists across language editions (one particular type of systemic bias). Here is the link of the project proposal: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Wikipedia_Cultural_Diversity_Observatory_(WCDO)
The "community review phase" finishes on October 18th, so I would ask you to read it as soon as possible.
I am searching for a volunteer in each language community. If you feel like it, you can contact me at: marcmiquel *at* gmail.com I need a contact in your every community who can (1) check the quality of the cultural context article list I generate to be imported-exported to other language editions, (2) test the interface/data visualizations in their language, and (3) communicate the existance of the tool/site when ready to the language community and especially to those editors involved in projects which could use it or be aligned with it. Communicating it might not be a lot of work, but it will surely have a greater impact if done in native language! :). If you like the project, I'd ask you to endorse it in the page I provided. In any case, I will appreciate any feedback, comments,... Thanks in advance for your time! Best regards, --Marcmiquel (talk) 12:21, 11 October 2017 (UTC) Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona

[edit]Is there going to be a Telegram group for the conference? I probably missed a comms summary somewhere. --Fæ (talk) 14:53, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
- An email from Sara stated that there is a telegram group called "Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017", but there is no link :( Searching for public groups did not yield any results with that name... Rehman 06:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
