Usage of bureaucrat role

It's worth mentioning in some wikis bureaucrats give users sysop (or even bureaucrat) flags with no discussion at all (sometimes with an off-wiki requests). This happens in some larger wikis like mediawikiwiki.--GZWDer (talk) 07:01, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Yes, this will be one of the points mentioned. I'm not as worried about it for special wikis (and mediawiki is special in various ways as MediaWiki developers can often get adminship on the spot) but for content wikis this is a big reason why a lot of small wikis are messed up the way they are. --Rschen7754 18:02, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Opening thoughts

This page has already drawn some attention so I will post some opening thoughts here.

The goal of this project is to enforce the policies and conventions that already exist to make Wikimedia projects better. I started this project last year and kept my notes offline, but never finished. But due to recent events I have decided to revive the project, move the tracking of it onto Meta, and invite others to join in.

As a side benefit, we can help those who want to be stewards and global sysops to gain experience - especially those who aren't the cross-wiki vandal fighting type.

I am still building the templates and checklists, but an important question:

Now 2021

I haven't gotten around to setting up most of the pages yet and it's already December so the start of this will be pushed to 2021. --Rschen7754 21:00, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
