Neutrality?

[edit]

Is the promotion of religious events compatible with WPs neutrality guidelines? I think not. --62.216.206.76 10:02, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

The text does not mention any promotion. What is mentioned is documentation of various religious practices. A09|(pogovor) 10:30, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for raising this important point regarding the compatibility of the Wiki Loves Ramadan campaign with Wikipedia’s neutrality guidelines.
I would like to clarify that the Wiki Loves Ramadan campaign is not about promoting religious beliefs or practices. Instead, its goal is to improve the quality and quantity of content related to Ramadan on Wikimedia platforms, ensuring that the topic is covered accurately, comprehensively, and neutrally. This is in line with Wikipedia's mission to provide unbiased, well-researched information on a wide range of subjects, including cultural, historical, and religious topics.
All contributions made during the campaign are expected to adhere to Wikipedia’s core principles, including neutrality, verifiability, and reliable sourcing. The focus is strictly on expanding encyclopedic knowledge, not on promoting any particular viewpoint.
I hope this clarifies the intention and structure of the campaign. Please feel free to share any further concerns or questions. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 10:31, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

[edit]

I propose creating a dedicated Facebook page for the Wiki Loves Ramadan contest. This platform can serve as a central hub for updates, announcements, and community engagement, helping to attract participants and build momentum for the competition. It will also be a great space to showcase the winning entries and celebrate the cultural richness captured through the contest.

It is essential to finalize the competition dates, ensuring they include the period of Eid al-Fitr. This timing would allow participants to capture the unique atmosphere and celebrations during this important time, adding greater depth and relevance to the contest's theme. The inclusion of Eid will likely enhance the diversity and vibrancy of the submissions, as it represents a significant cultural moment for many communities around the world.

I also recommend informing the Wikimedia Foundation early about the contest, particularly to ensure it aligns with their guidelines and to seek potential support. Their involvement might provide additional visibility, resources, and backing for the event, helping it to reach a wider audience.

Additionally, presenting the contest during WikiArabia would be a valuable opportunity to generate interest and engage with regional Wikimedia communities. Highlighting the contest during this event would not only raise awareness but could also inspire collaboration and participation from various countries across the Arab world. This could position Wiki Loves Ramadan as a key cultural and photographic event within the broader Wiki movement. Mounir Touzri (talk) 13:52, 17 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Mounir, for your thoughtful suggestions regarding the Wiki Loves Ramadan contest, and sorry for late response. I appreciate your proactive approach, and I’m happy to share that I’ve already implemented a couple of your ideas:
  1. Facebook Page and Telegram Group: As per your recommendation, I’ve created a dedicated Facebook page and a Telegram group for the contest. These platforms will act as key spaces for announcements, updates, and community engagement. You can check them out at the following links:
  2. Discussion with Wikimedia Foundation: I have also started discussions with Alex Stinson, the lead program strategist at the Wikimedia Foundation, to ensure that the contest aligns with their guidelines and to explore possible support. His insights should be valuable as we move forward.
  3. Presenting at WikiArabia: I completely agree with you that presenting the contest during WikiArabia would be a fantastic opportunity to engage regional Wikimedia communities. I will certainly try to make this happen. Your suggestion to raise awareness and inspire collaboration across the Arab world through this event is something I’m very excited about.
I also want to extend an invitation for you to join the organizing team, even if it’s in a less active role. Your experience and insight would be incredibly valuable, and I would love to have you on board.
Thanks again for your contributions, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration on this exciting project! Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 05:29, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
