Proper names (teams, efforts, etc.)

The Tech News have recently become lengthier and often include a peppering of proper names. Are these supposed to be translated? Some result in exceedingly long and/or hard-to-translate Some examples from this one are (directly translated Norwegian Bokmål in parentheses):

  • Content Discovery Experiments page (Innholdsoppdagelseseksperimentssiden)
  • Wiki Education Speaker Series Webinar (Wikiutdannelsestalerserieinternettseminar)
  • Product and Tech Advisory Council (Rådet for produkt og teknologi)
  • Movement Strategy's Technology Council initiative (Teknologirådsinitiativet til Bevegelsesstrategi(?))
  • Open Source Tech: Building the Wiki Education Dashboard (Teknologi med åpen kildekode – å bygge kontrollbordet for wikiutdannelse)
  • Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module (Fellesskapsoppdateringsmodulen for hjemmesiden for nybegynnere)

These and a lot of technical jargon being used makes it difficult to translate without making it sound very artificial. Am I meant to translate these names? I've translated some that have established translations and that I feel "must" be translated, but some that are just long strings of tech words (like Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module) are really tricky! Hi @EdoAug. Good questions. Essentially, you can translate things however you think will be most useful, clear, and accurate (to the 'spirit', not necessarily the precise wording), for the language community/ies that you are familiar with.
  • E.g. for the names of software-projects and their features, like "Newcomer Homepage", that have probably been discussed before, you could re-use the names that are used locally. That might involve looking at translations in the interface directly, or at previously-translated documentation pages, or remembering/searching for things in past announcements, or even looking at translatewiki (e.g. searching for "Community Updates" I see that has been translated as "Oppdateringer fra fellesskapet").
    • In other words: This entry is essentially about (paraphrased) "the name of a new module that shares community updates, which will be displayed at the Newcomer Homepage (Special:Homepage at your Wikipedia).", so you could write whatever you believe is clearest for communicating that information.
  • E.g. For "Movement Strategy's Technology Council initiative" I would suggest a similar process, looking at pages like m:Movement Strategy/nb and m:Movement Strategy/Initiatives/Technology Council (untranslated, but as reference), and deciding yourself what is best. It might help to consider alternative ways to describe it, such as "The recommendation for an advisors group that came out of the movement strategy process", or however that would be concisely-described in your language(s).
  • E.g. for proper-names that refer to specific event titles, such as "Wiki Education Speaker Series Webinar", I imagine that is more complicated, but again it is up to you to decide what is clearest for the community/ies that you know best. E.g. If a majority of readers are bilingual in English, then you might decide to include the original language's name in brackets after a translation (or even just by itself). Essentially this entry is about "a video meeting with the people who are developing the Wiki Education Foundation's Dashboards systems (https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/?locale=nb and https://dashboard.wikiedu.org/?locale=nb)".
