Section headers changing

[edit]

Noting that we're going to be testing out some new section-headers for Tech News this week (and in the following weeks), that are intended to help readers to better navigate the content in each week's newsletter. We'll move the new section-headers into the {{Tech news text}} system after a couple of weeks, if all goes well.

We're also planning some updates for the Manual, with this and related info, such as an expanded Style Guide.

Thanks. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:17, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

No early translation email

[edit]

Just a note, that I won't be sending the early-translation email reminder, as there are still so many entries still being finalized, and I know sometimes translators don't check back in after the first email. Thanks! UOzurumba (WMF) (talk) 20:23, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is this phrasing intentional? Translation.

[edit]

Hiya! In one of the items, the text reads as follows: "The Language and Product Localization Team at the Wikimedia Foundation supports your work by adapting all the tools and interfaces you use to yours and other languages." This makes it sound like the mentioned team are the ones that are translating all of these tools and interfaces. Is this intentional? EdoAug (talk) 15:27, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm just asking, as it downplays volunteer user efforts (including mine) to translate tools and user interfaces. While I do this not for personal acclaim, I'm not interested in giving someone else the credit for my user experience and interface translations done through translatewiki, toolforge, or locally on the projects. Hello @EdoAug, apologies for this unintended mixup of information.
We wanted to highlight the MediaWiki Localisation and Internationalisation work that the Language and Production Localisation team does to ensure volunteers can translate strings and interfaces to different Languages. How about re-writing to this: The Language and Product Localization Team at the Wikimedia Foundation supports your work by adapting all the tools and interfaces in the MediaWiki software so that contributors in our movement who translate pages and strings can translate them and have the sites in all languages.

That's better to me! EdoAug (talk) 20:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
