Pageviews bug report

Got an error on this URL. https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Talk:Dry_drunk - 128.138.182.236 19:54, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

What did the error say...? What browser and operating system are you using? MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 13:45, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Topviews bug report: character displayed instead of umlauts in Topviews analysis

https://tools.wmflabs.org/topviews/?project=de.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&date=last-month&excludes=St%EF%BF%BDckgut%7CSch%EF%BF%BDttgut%7CF%EF%BF%BDrdertechnik displays "Schüttgut", "Stückgut" and "Fördertechnik" with a character instead of the umlaut. The correct symbol, the umlaut ü and ö should be displayed though.

This is for de.wikipedia.org as the pages only show up here.

I am using Firefox 63. The issue is also present with Chrome 70.0.3538.67 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) on Windows 10 pro.

Nothing in the Topviews FAQ.

Why do I have to sign the post with PBaumer (talk) 08:14, 24 October 2018 (UTC)? Thanks a lot in advance.

Best Phil

PBaumer (talk) 08:14, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

@PBaumer: Topviews merely reports the data provided by the pageviews API. Apparently, there were pageviews to Stckgut ([1]) and the others, even though these aren't real articles. This tells me it's very likely a false positive, where a bot was scraping those pages. I have flagged them as false positives so they will no longer appear in Topviews results. Thanks for the report. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:00, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
See also phab:T117945. If we can confirm that these views to pages with replacement characters are indeed coming from a particular bot, that would be a useful addition to the (so far inconclusive) investigation there. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 01:22, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Adding Pageviews to otherwikis

In en.wikipedia, there is an option for page views, in Revision history under External tools, how we can add such links (tool) to sd.wikipedia? Arslanali (talk) 10:51, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello Arslanali! You can add these links to the system messages at sd:MediaWiki:Histlegend (top of revision history) and sd:MediaWiki:Pageinfo-footer (bottom of page information page). There are a number of URL parameters, but to link to the tool with the default options, use the syntax:
[https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews?project=sd.wikipedia.org&pages={{FULLPAGENAMEE}} Pageviews]
replacing "Pageviews" with the Sindhi translation. If you need help let me know :) MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 20:43, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks @MusikAnimal (WMF):, now tool is live in sd.wikipedia. in pageviews when we change language its showing LtR, but sindh is RtL, same like arbic or urdu (اردو). Arslanali (talk) 08:37, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
I have fixed this. Sindh should now be shown in RTL. Cheers, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 15:50, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Arslanali (talk) 14:02, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

need hint on the interpretation of the figures

Hi, [2] gives me astonishing high results for a page of protected cultural heritage monuments in Austria (usually not that interesting). As you can see in [3], this is an outlier to similar lists (Graz on second place is something different and page views are considered normal). A factor of almost 100 to the next list. Any oddity in referrers, etc? Do the page views come from inside wikipedia or from outside? Or is this a counting error in the basic data? best --Herzi Pinki (talk) 00:01, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Pageviews in ascending order today

Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T210091 resolved

Today's pageviews unlike every other day's, are appearing in ascending rather than descending order, with the top scoring article at the very end. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 12:28, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Appears to be a bug in the Pageviews API (which Topviews pulls from). I've reported it at phab:T210091. Thanks for letting me know, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:03, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
The Analytics team has fixed the issue. Regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:12, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Userviews case-sensitive in odd way

Can't permalink to the problem on the "userviews analysis" page. If I enter "wtshymanski" in the userviews analysis user box, I get told that "wtshymanski has over 66000 edits" but then I get told "no results found". If I enter "Wtshymanski", I get told "Wtshymanski has over 66000 edits" and then I get results. This is probably not intentional. It's a little odd that the case gets ignored for one query, but is not ignored for the second. I don't want to say how many times I tried this before I figured it out. Browser is Firefox 63/0/3 om Windows 8.1. Didn't see this in the FAQ or the archives. --Wtshymanski (talk) 05:06, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, this is indeed a bug. I have created phab:T210362. Regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 22:25, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Unicode

Hi. The page names in unicode are not recognized any more. IKhitron (talk) 12:18, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

@IKhitron: Can you provide a link or example, and a more thorough description of the issue? MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:21, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Sure. See, for example, here. And yo'll see it without any description. (-: IKhitron (talk) 12:55, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. Please always provide a link! :) Anyway, this looks like phab:T117945, and [[Special:Permalink/18649132#Topviews bug report: character displayed instead of umlauts in Topviews analysis]]. I could remove these pages from the results, but I think they are actually real articles, only the title isn't being recorded correctly. Unfortunately I can't help, but I have reported the issue at phab:T117945#4772605. Regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:00, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
I see, thank you. IKhitron (talk) 21:58, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Does pageview include pre-fetching

Hi there! A quick and naive question about pageviews. After searching, if the search engines prefetch a related Wikipedia page, does that count as a pageview? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.122.185.176 (talk) 16:00, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Answered on the Analytics mailing list [4]. Regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:53, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

data anomaly

Is it possible that one article in Estonian Wikipedia has 43000 views in one day [5] ?? --WikedKentaur (talk) 12:57, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
