Thank you @EdoAug for this wish. Please forgive me, as I am translating my comment via Google Translate. It sounds like your request is to build an interface that leverages templates to create "forms." Are there any examples or proxies on Wiki that resemble such a use case, or "bad" examples where there are too many parameters and comments? Please feel free to share screenshots to illustrate your idea.

Del gjerne skjermbilder for å illustrere ideen din. JWheeler-WMF (talk) 18:54, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hiya, JWheeler-WMF! Thanks for your question! I can reply in English, as it is easier to communicate directly. I am appending a small gallery of screenshots from various Wikipedia projects and Wikidata.
  • Russian Wikipedia, user renaming request template as form

  • Wikidata, deletion request template as form
Wikidata, deletion request template as form
  • Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia, a local suggestion for front page material nominations template as form

  • English Wikipedia, a submission form for "Did you know", a column on the first page

  • As you can see from the four screenshots, there are various ways of creating "forms" on the wikis through preloading a template. The Norwegian suggestion is by me, so I don't feel to bad saying that it's messy and kind of intimidating, with all its inline comments. Some of these parameters have various data types, including set values (dropdown menu?), some of these are mandatory, some are not, some require free form strings, one a date, and I scrapped a parameter that was yes/no boolean.
The English Wikipedia "Did you know" form is impressive, but I have no idea how one would recreate it elsewhere. It also doesn't really match the Wikimedia visual style 100%.
While I don't want to suggest a solution (as per the Community Wishlist guidelines), there are, as mentioned, various forms within MediaWiki already, including TemplateData (link to Commons), the gallery editing interface, and the submission form for wishes. Thank you! This is really helpful. It seems that you're sensing a pattern of workflows where users are asked to enter some form of data through a template, and yet the inputs are still not very user friendly.
Regarding the deletion use case, have you seen Adiutor? It has a UI for creating a speedy deletion, and I'm curious if it follows a pattern you're interested in. JWheeler-WMF (talk) 19:49, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@JWheeler-WMF I was just coming to suggest something similar as I work on creating some draft U4C reporting forms. My current workaround is to use Preloaded pages which often requires someone to transclude or link the page they make - not ideal. In this new wishlist format how do I express my support for the idea? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 22:08, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
