This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal
[edit]Louisiana Creole is a highly endangered language that has struggled to assert its distinctiveness as a linguistic code for a number of reasons. First, it is often conflated with Louisiana French, a term that encompasses what is popularly known as "Cajun French." While these languages share a great deal of basic vocabulary, phonology, and semantics, their contemporary proximity does not nullify their historical independence. Second, Louisiana Creole lacks a standardized orthography (although one has recently been proposed). Though attestations of the language exist as early as the 18th century, each author has employed their own idiosyncratic way of representing the language to varying degrees of success. Third, Louisiana Creole--like many creole languages across the globe--suffers under the stigma of being a "broken" language. By demonstrating Louisiana Creole's capacity to function as a modern language, it is hoped that speakers will take pride in using their language and passing it on to future generations. Furthermore, it will give heritage learners of the language a body of work to read in Louisiana Creole.
The vitality of the small group of online learners of this language can readily be seen by visiting the Louisiana Creole Language Fanpage on Facebook (www.facebook.com/Kourivini). It is this group of learners and speakers who will be instrumental in implementing this project.--Na wendte (talk) 19:32, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
(Moved from Requests for new languages/WIKIPEDIA LANGUAGE.) Louisiana Creole, or kouri-vini (so-called because of the distinct grammar structures within the language) has an ongoing re-vitalization effort including a recent standardization of the orthography of the language. According to wikipedia, there are at least 10,000 speakers of the language, but there is some difficulty estimating an exact size. Therefore, the wikipedia will be a useful tool for regular native speakers, the even larger audience of passive users, teachers, historians, language activists, and the yet larger group of people with heritage ties to the language as the re-vitilization efforts document large parts of Louisiana and Southern/New France history. It is worth noting that a huge amount of written and audio records in Louisiana are either in Louisiana French or Louisiana Creole and this language project could fill a number of gaps in existing articles of other languages if it is successful. Please provide guidance on creating a wikidata page for this entry if a separate one is needed. A manual on the commons phonemes/orthography can be found here. A dictionary can be found here. --Rivere123 (talk) 23:03, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
